Reliability Savings Calculator
Recently Carlyle's reputation for unsurpassed reliability was put to the test in a real-world, head-to-head durability comparison of refrigeration rack installations at a major U.S. supermarket chain. With an equal installed base of Carlyle compressors vs. the competition, stores located in the same geographical region, the same service contractors performing the repairs, and approximately the same number of failed compressors (40), Carlyle’s mean age of failed compressor population was 9.9 years versus 5.2 years for the competition. (Reference: Literature No. 574-203) Even more impressive real-world reliability advantages are shown in actual 2006 data for a major supermarket retailer with over 13,000 Carlyle 06D, 06E, & 06CC compressors installed from 2004 to 2006. The retailer experienced a 0.17% compressor failure rate for the first year and a 0.52% total failure rate for all three years of operation. Another 130-store supermarket retailer uses Carlyle 5-Line direct drive compressors and has not had a single compressor failure in over 10 years. Instructions: Modify figures shown in blue-highlighted cells to reflect total number of stores, compressors per store, and local contractor rates and material costs. Initial Assumptions Shown in Calculation Below: (All fields are editable for local rates) 1 2 A 20 store supermarket chain with 12 compressors per store. Because not all failures require compressor replacement, the average repair/replacement cost assumption is $2,000 for parts and materials and 8 hours of labor at $70 per hour ($560) for a total of $2,560 per incident. No product loss, lost productivity, or costs for clean up to a contaminated system have been included. Assume compressors will fail at an equal rate each year based on 50% failure at MTBF. For example, compressors with an average of 10 year MTBF will fail at a rate of 5% per year (50% by year 10). No energy efficiency considerations are included in this analysis. Mean Time Before Failure (MTBF) data comes from Carlyle's "Reliable" brochure, literature #574-203.
