The participating nations were Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Chad, Congo, DRC, Cote D'Ivoire, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Togo. ●The Training Course on Trade Facilitation for African Countries for managerial officials of customs administrations in the Frencophone African countries was held in Japan on November 2008. 19 customs administrations of the Frencophone countries were invited and managerial officials of 14 customs administrations participated in the Training Course. The participating nations were Benin, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, DRC, Cote D'Ivoire, Djibouti, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Mauritania, Senegal and Togo.
2. Power
● Support development/expansion of power projects and transmission and distribution networks GoJ/WBG/AfDB/A frica-EU Partnership on Energy/ICA/JICA WBG: (i) double annual lending to $ 2 billion and aim to mobilize another $ 2 billion in co-financing, (ii) support to Southern Africa Power Pool, West Africa Power Pool, Central Africa Power Pool and East Africa Power Pool in the order of $ 500 million per year, (iii) IFC to finance 15 + Public Private Partnership (PPP) in power sector FY 2008-2011, estimated financing of $400-500 million
●World Bank lending to the energy sector in Sub Saharan Africa increased to reach more than US$1 billion in FY2008. Proposed support to various regional power pools is on track and is being prepared in collaboration with other partners. IFC is identifying private investors for power sector ppps. The WBG is also supporting the Lighting Africa initiative to increase access to affordable, sustainable lighting.

●JOGMEC established the Geologic Remote Sensing Center in Botswana (opened on 28 July 2008), in association with Botswana and SADC member countries. The Center aimed at extracting potential areas by exploration with advanced remote sensing technologies (satellite image analysis) and transferring satellite image processing techniques. The total budget for 5 years amounts to JPY500,000,000. JOGMEC has conducted the training project for the staff of Botswana Geological Survey since August 2008 (four courses will be held by December). In TICADIV Southern Africa follow-up mission in September, JOGMEC encouraged Mozambique, Madagascar and South Africa to participate in the Project. ●In November 2007, during then Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Mr. Amari’s visit to South Africa, JOGMEC, The Council for Geosciences of the Republic of South Africa, and The National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology had an agreement on conducting joint geological investigation for rare earth elements, rare metals and mineral resources, which has being in operation on the 5 year plan. ●In November 2008, JOGMEC decided to provide financial supports for oil exploration projects in Ghana.
●In November 2007, during then Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Mr. Amari’s visit to South Africa, JOGMEC and Mintek had an agreement on joint research on mineral resource processing on the base of new technology (bioleaching), which has being in operation on the 5 year plan.

WBG: Launch Global Food Response Facility and implement short-term targeted measures to meet emergency needs in individual countries
●The GFRP (Global Food Response Facility) launched in June 2008. By October, $83 million in GFRP grant money approved for 10 African countries, and another $46 million under finalization for 7 other countries, for a total in special grants of $129 million. Among other things, these grants financed targeted food distribution to children and other vulnerable groups, provision of seeds and fertilizer, and financing in support of food price policies.

●Expert Meeting on the Development of the Pan African Productivity Association (PAPA) and APO Productivity Partnership Program in Singapore (29-30 October 2008). The expert from the National Productivity Organizations (NPOs) of India, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand attended this meeting to formulate the draft program framework. ●Basic Training Course on Productivity Practitioners in Johannesburg, South Africa (10 November-5 December 2008). This 4-week intensive course was organized to provide 25 staff of 5 PAPA members with the opportunity to acquire various basic tools and skills in productivity and to develop a productivity mindset. ●The proposed new PAPA and APO Productivity Partnership Program was presented at the PAPA Board meeting on 5 December 2008. The PAPA Board meeting agreed to proceed with the new partnership program with the APO. □This new partnership program will start with need identification, followed by a workshop and expert deputation from the NPOs of the APO.
● Expand Asia Africa Knowledge Co-creation Program JICA (AAKCP)
JICA: promote AAKCP in 12 countries for improving management
●In addition to original 8 countries (Eritrea, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Malawi, Madagascar and Senegal), French-speacking coutries such as Morocco, Mali, Bebin, and Burkina Faso will be included. For new member countries, introduction training will be carried out in March 2009.

●A meeting of the "ISCGM" in Tokyo on June 4, 2008 and "Global Mapping Forum 2008" at United Nations University from 5 to GSI: Hold a meeting of the International Steering Committee for Global Mapping (ISCGM) and a related 7 June 2008 were held by inviting Director of Surveys of Kenya and Directeur Direction des Travaux Géographiques et Cartographiques of Senegal, where views and opinions were exchanged on the development, revision and application of Global event Map in Africa. ●As of October 20, 2008, Global Map data of 15 countries/one region of Africa have been developed and released through technical assistance of GSI. ●Global Map-global version (Global Land Cover by National Mapping Organizations (GLCNMO) and Percent Tree Cover), which includes African region, were released on June 5, 2008. ●Promote the utilization of Global Map data in African countries by creating and disseminating utilization examples.
