URGENT NOTICE MEMBERS, SUPPORTERS AND FRIENDS of the HOMELESS ANIMAL SOCIETY & BOARDING KENNELS INC T/A PAWS AND CLAWS KENNELS PORT DOUGLAS Hello Members, supporters and friends As you know Paws and Claws Kennels Port Douglas has been operating in the Douglas Shire since 1999 as an animal refuge for neglected and homeless dogs, puppies, cats and kittens. To offset the costs of running a refuge, Paws and Claws Kennels also offers a boarding service to the community of the Douglas Shire. Paws and Claws is an active member of the local community and enjoys a great amount of community support. It is your community support and spirit that we are calling on now. You will be aware that Paws and Claws Kennels has been looking for land to relocate its animal refuge and kennels for sometime now. As the current site at Craiglie has recently been sold the urgency to relocate is more important than ever. We have been lucky enough to potentially gain access to land in Beor Street, Craiglie to build a new refuge and kennels. A Public Notice of Development Application under the Douglas Shire Planning Scheme is now out with the application available for viewing at the Douglas Shire Council Planning Department until Friday 21 April. The committee of Paws and Claws Kennels is asking that you show your support for this application by sending a written submission in favour of the development to the Council. The submission MUST include the following information: 1. Proposal: Preliminary approval for material change of use for cattery, kennels and caretakers residence and use rights applicable to the general industry zone across part of Lot 83 on SR724 2. Applicant: WAKS Development 3. On land at: Beor Street, Craiglie 4. Described as: Part of Lot 83 on SR724 5. Address and signature of each submitter in order to be considered a ‘properly made submission’. The Council is only obliged to consider ‘properly made submissions’ in its assessment of the application. All written submissions should be addressed to the Chief Executive Ofﬁcer, Douglas Shire Council, PO Box 357, Mossman, Qld 4873 and submitted on or before 21 April 2006.
