The Manatee County Health Department has ordered 10,000 doses of flu vaccine for this year’s flu
 season. No shortages are expected.

The Manatee County Health Department will offer flu and pneumonia vaccinations to the general public
beginning October 15, 2007 at various locations (see schedule list below). Vaccinations will be available
at the Health Department (410 6th Avenue East) on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings 8am-
Noon in a flu/pneumonia express clinic.

The cost of the flu vaccine at these clinics will be $25.00 and Pneumonia vaccine $35.00.

In addition to vaccination, the risk of contracting respiratory infections can be reduced by following a few
 simple steps:

      • Clean your hands often with soap and water or an alcohol-based hand cleaner.
      • Stay home when you are sick and keep sick children home.
      • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
      • Avoid close contact with people who are ill, if possible.
      • Do not share eating utensils, drinking glasses, towels or other personal items.
      • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and throw the tissue away.
      • After coughing or sneezing, always clean your hands with soap and water or an alcohol-based
           hand cleaner.
