Dear friends:
Incredibly, one third of the year has already past! Spring is clearly upon us, and before we know it, we’ll be in
the hot days of summer. I thought it would be good at this point to invite you to do some reflection on the “Focus on
four.” As you may remember, as a community we’ve been focusing on four areas of our spiritual life, four ways of open-
ing ourselves to experiencing the grace of God. Each focus area lines up with our mission to be a community that helps
connect people to God and others, grow in faith, serve others, and reach out. We are encouraging you to build friend-
ships within the community (connect), read your Bible (grow), take the next step in service (serve) and invest and invite
(reach out). So how is it going?
Are you intentionally connecting with at least one other person or family and developing a solid friendship? Is
there one other person outside of your family with whom you can share the journey of faith? Are you finding ways to
enjoy the friendship, creating times to be together, relax, play and so forth? Are you finding times you can talk about
meaningful things in life: family, career, hopes, dreams and so on? In a fast-paced world such as ours, these are impor-
tant aspects of experiencing a deep and meaningful life. We were created for relationship. The very first thing God no-
ticed after creating the first person was that it is not good for us to be alone in the world.
How is your Bible reading going? Do you have a Bible of your own? Did you start strong, but now are finding it
harder to maintain? Do you need to recommit to the practice? Are you still looking for that right devotional guide, that
website, that really helps you connect with the word of God in meaningful ways? It’s good to remember that scripture is
“God-breathed” and vital for growing and maturing as a follower of Jesus. Next year we’ll offer Disciple Bible study
again - plan now to work this study into your calendar - in all likelihood on Monday evening.
And how about service? Service comes in all kinds of shapes and sizes. It might be serving at the food pantry,
the homeless shelter, or on mission. But service also comes in doing things that strengthen the community. We need peo-
ple willing to get up and read scripture during worship. We need people willing to join our new First Impressions minis-
try, ensuring that we are creating a comfortable environment for visitors. We need people willing to learn how to use
MediaShout, our worship presentation software, so that the elements of worship displayed on the screen and through the
sound system flow seamlessly during the celebration. These are just a few examples of ways you can serve, all opportu-
nities to use your gifts in strengthening the body of Christ, and experiencing God’s grace.
Finally, have you been praying for at least one other person, a person you can begin to invest in? Are you reach-
ing out? Is there someone in your social network, a family member, a friend, a neighbor, whom you can bless by making
yourself available to? Have you begun to think of ways you can invite them to come and see what God is doing through
the community of faith? One of the most common responses Jesus made when people wanted to know more about what
God was up to was, “Come and see.” No big speech. No proof or doctrinal statement. Just come and see. The church is
the continuing incarnation of Jesus in the world today - it’s the closest we can get to seeing and experiencing the pres-
ence of Christ until he returns. So, the best thing you can do is just invite your family, your friends, your neighbor, to
some event - a worship celebration, a small group meeting, a service event - and allow them to see and experience Jesus
for themselves.
I pray you take the time to think about these questions, and I encourage you to be intentional about moving for-
ward in pursuing God’s desire that we continue to grow personally and as a community to be the church God wants us to
be. We are “God’s fellow workers” (1 Cor. 3:9), participating with what God is doing in the world. Imagine what would
happen if each of us embraced the invitation, and took the next step in each area of connect, grow, serve, and reach out.
May God bless you in your endeavors.
Grace and peace, Rick

Prayer List Update
If you have requested prayers for someone who is still on the prayer list, would you please contact Alice Hamer
as to the status of that person. Let us know if he/she no longer needs our prayers. We do not wish to remove anyone who
continues to need our prayers.
If prayers have been answered we would LOVE to put “Praise for answered prayers” on the list for that person.
If the people or person still is in need of prayer, we would like to update that so that we will be praying for their
particular needs.
Thank you for all your help,
Alice Hamer—781.545.4112
Many, many thanks to all the members of HUMC who supported with prayers, presence at the

Nicaragua Mission Trip
As always, our recent trip to Nicaragua was a study in highs and lows. The excitement of seeing ten
of the folks from Camino Emaus, the school we worked on last year, at the airport to greet us on
Friday night, was incredible, but the reality that soon dawned on us that the world wide economic
slump coupled with material aid bound for Nicaragua now rerouted to Haiti had made an already
dire situation in Nicaragua, unimaginably, even worse, was heartbreaking. One would think that
by the third trip to Nicaragua some of the difficulties the Nicaraguans face on a daily basis would
become somehow less painful to see but the truth is, the more we love these people and their impov-
erished country, the more difficult it becomes to see the spirit crushing conditions of their everyday
lives.
The highs:
* Hearing the cheers from the school kids that went up when we pulled up in front of the Camino Emaus School
and for the wonderful program they put on for us.
*The liturgical dances of amazing energy and skill (with our own Maura participating) done during worship.
*Our team handing out over 500 wooden fish necklaces accompanied with "Dios te bendiga" (God bless you).
*Watching the care the women took in the sewing program as they worked on their first project.
*Playing with Jancy Belen, a two year old girl, at an orphanage.
*Giving food to hungry people on the streets and seeing their faces light up.
*Treating a family to their first meal eaten out and watching the kids in the indoor playground.
*200 people lined up to kiss, hug us, and thank us after the service at Camino Emaus
*Planning for next year's trip
The heartbreaks;
*Starving, bone thin horses, cows, dogs
*Starving, bone thin men, women, and children
*Seeing the conditions in the "free zone" aka sweatshop
*Seeing women selling bread on the street from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
*Little kids working in the streets washing car windows and selling things
*The reality of the horribly uneven distribution of wealth on our earth
Next year's trip will be in late June or early July, 2011. A domestic trip first is must if you are considering Nica-
ragua in 2011, so consider the Machias, ME trip in July for your first mission experience. Contact Joanne and Kevin
McNally at kspnally@gmail.com
Adult Machias Mission Trip
The dates are set for the adult mission trip to Downeast Maine. The team leaves July 25th and will stay until July 31st.
This trip is open to all. Things you might do while on this trip: paint houses, build stairs, sort and fold clothes at the mi-
grant Thrift Store. There is something for every skill level! You will also have a chance to see some of most beautiful
parts of New England. The cost of the trip is typically around $200 per person, but the group will be doing fundraisers to
help alleviate out of pockets costs. For more information, contact Rick at harborumc@verizon.net or Kevin and Joanne
McNally at kspnally@gmail.com. Also, we continue to collect men’s clothes for the thrift shop. Place your donations in
the box in Bruce Hall marked Machias Mission.

Good Friday Walk - Sharing, Inc.
Good Friday and Easter 2010 are “past events,” but thanks are due to loyal Harbor United Methodist
Church members and friends who supported those from our church who walked on Good Friday. A new
walker was Liz Watson. Others were Sue Lovering, Wendy Ford, Colleen Ford and two of her friends,
Nancy Sincoski and Robert Sincoski, Melinda Cerny, and Nancy Thurson. Ken Cerny worked behind the
scenes as he usually does. Melinda was recognized for walking 300 miles over the years. Nancy Thurson
was recognized for walking for 35 years. Once again, thanks to all.
Lost …Olly-olly-oxen-free
Ten (10) large serving spoons are missing from the kitchen as well as the key to the lock on the fellowship time cabinet.
Please think if you may have borrowed the spoons for an event and forgot about them so we can have them for the next
event that we host at HUMC. Also, give a look around for the missing key. Thank you!
And Found!
On Palm Sunday, Nancy Thurson lost a valuable gold earring at church. She looked everywhere, to no avail. During the
Holy Week Worship Feast, she looked again. As she was leaving the Feast, she spotted the earring on a literature table.
Some kind person had found it and left it there. Whoever you are, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
