Linehan joins the Lions
• The Detroit Lions hired Scott Linehan as the team's new offensive coordinator on Friday. Terms of his contract were not disclosed. Linehan joins the Lions coaching staff after spending the past three seasons (2006-08) as the head coach of the St. Louis Rams. He was fired after Week 4 when the Rams started the season 0-4. He finished with a mark of 11-25 at St. Louis. Prior to his time with the Rams, Linehan spent the 2005 season as the offensive coordinator with the Miami Dolphins and was the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach with the Minnesota Vikings from 2002-04.

Linehan history
• • Linehan coached at the college level for 13 years before breaking into the NFL. The big three coaching positions are now filled for the Lions, who became the first team in NFL history to finish a 16-game regular season without a win in 2008. Jim Schwartz was named the head coach of the team last week and on Wednesday Schwartz named Gunther Cunningham as the defensive coordinator. While the defense was the biggest culprit in Detroit's winless season, the offense wasn't spectacular either. However, it was burdened with the task of playing catch-up ball in many games.
