              INTRODUCTION
   Department of Quantity Surveying – earliest in
    the Faculty (1971)
   Programmes offered:
    • Diploma: 3 years course – currently provided by the
      main campus in Sri Iskandar & Sarawak (full-time)
    • Degree: 2 years course- main campus only (full- time &
      part-time)
   Degree programme expanded in 1998:
    - to cater for STPM and Matriculation candidate.
    - The programme was expanded to 3 years .
    - Graduated diploma holders joins the
    programme in the 2nd year (3 rd. semester)
             INTRODUCTION
   Current Status of the Programme:
    • Recognised by Malaysian Government (JPA)

    • Accredited by Board of Quantity Surveyors
      Malaysia

    • Recognised by Institution of Surveyors
      Malaysia

    • Accredited by RICS
    PROGRAMME PHILOSOPHY
   To provide a holistic study programme
    which is academically rigorous and provide
    special professional expertise in the
    Quantity Surveying discipline

   To provide an educational study
    programme which promotes academic,
    personal and professional development.
    PROGRAMME PHILOSOPHY
   The course offered is directed towards coordinating
    and integrating the contractual, financial and
    management aspects of construction projects.

   The programme structure provides a broad area of
    study in the management of construction works with
    special focus on the contract management and
    measurement of construction works.

   This encompasses studies in building, civil,
    mechanical and electrical engineering works,
    construction technology, building services,
    construction economics, project and construction
    management, ICT, professional practice, construction
    law and research.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE
       PROGRAMME
Three strategic domains:
 Education

  • Develop graduates for employment:
    leadership skill, ability to be analytical,
    creative and innovative and develop
    their individual thoughts and aspiration

   Professional knowledge and skill
    enhancement
    • To equip graduates with competent skills and
      knowledge to perform roles relating to the
      tasks of the quantity surveyors within
      construction projects in any stakeholder
      organisation.
    • To prepare graduates for continuous
      intellectual development leading to a higher
      degree/ career advancement
    • To prepare graduates with the qualifications
      leading to full professional membership status
      (BoQS, CIOB, ISM, IVM and/or others)
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE
       PROGRAMME
   Research
    • To equip graduates to undertake
      research either for continuing
      professional development or for specific
      work requirements
           ACADEMIC STAFF
Current teaching strength:
 Total number of staff = 29 (Currently 3
  registered with the Board of Quantity
  Surveyors Malaysia and the rest with a
  minimum of MSc qualification)

   Staff on study leave 4 (PhD )

Planned increase in lecturers qualification:
 4 lecturers have been awarded a scholarship
  for PhD Programme beside the existing 4
     INVOLVEMENT WITH PROFESSIONAL
        ORGANISATIONS WITHIN THE
         CONSTRUCTION INDUSTRY
    Participation of academic members within the
    various committees and sub-committees in
    the following organisations:
   CIDB (Construction Industry Development
    Board), Malaysia

   BQSM (Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia)

   LAN (Lembaga Akreditasi Negara), Malaysia –
    National Accreditation Board

   ISM (Institution of Surveyors Malaysia)
        RECENT RESEARCH &
      CONSULTANCY PROJECTS
   Six (2005) and two (2006) research projects
    were accepted by the Institute of Research,
    Development & Commercialisation (IRDC), UiTM

   Six (6) consultancy (Quantity Surveying) projects
    were carried out in 2005

   Programme Monitoring Committee (PMC) – led by
    appointed senior members of the Department

    - (3) appointed examiners

   Professional Institutions
     - Re-accreditation (ISM, BoQS, RICS)
       CURRICULUM REVIEW
   Periodically reviewed and upgraded at least every
    3 years.

   Recommendation and feedback from the UiTM,
    Institution of Surveyors (Malaysia), Board of QS
    (Malaysia), RICS, Employers and the students are
    key terms references of the reviews.

   Special attention to incorporated new
    technologies and knowledge concurrent with the
    changing needs of the Quantity Surveying
    profession and the construction industry.
