COURSE AIM
This is a sound production course for people who want to work as sound recordists and audio
editors at an advanced level within the broader community. You can choose to coordinate
technical production, manage a range of workplace situations and/or implement occupational
health, safety and security practices important to the music production environment.

You can also choose to test and repair sound equipment, make technical presentations and
analyse music videos.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Year 12 or equivalent or the Certificate II in Music Industry (Foundation) (7814).
NB. Applicants who have not completed Certificate II in Music Industry (Foundation) 7814
have to submit a Portfolio- Music Technical Production Questionnaire (see attached)

English
Demonstrated English language ability – for example, suitable results of a recent academic
IELTS - score 5.5 overall with no individual band lower than 5.0, or TOEFL (iBT) 71, or
successful completion of TAFE NSW Certificate III in English for Further Study, or proof that
the medium of instruction at school has been in English with satisfactory grades in English in
final examinations.

1.       Evidence of completion of Higher School Certificate or equivalent.

2.       IELTS level 5.5 or equivalent.

Selection criteria

Your application will be assessed using the following selection criteria:

• Display of commitment to study in the area of music industry technical production
• Display of some technical knowledge
• Evidence of experience in recording in a music industry context


Selection method

Your selection into this course will be based on the information provided on the TAFE NSW Application
Form. You will also be expected to answer a music industry technical production focused questionnaire.
this may be done through a sit-down test with specialist music staff or, for those applicants challenged by
distance, by way on the internet or other means.
