O4.01 REWARD SYSTEM FOR VANDALISM & MALICIOUS DAMAGE TO PUBLIC
           AND COMMERCIAL/RETAIL PROPERTY (IN CBD's)

COMMUNITY SERVICES & ORGANISATION DEVELOPMENT - RISK MANAGEMENT

POLICY OBJECTIVES

1 To reduce the acts of vandalism and malicious damage to public and commercial/retail
property (in CBD's) in the Gosford LGA.

2 To encourage the public to report acts of vandalism and malicious damage and to offer
a reward for the provision of such information.

POLICY STATEMENT

Council will offer a reward on a sliding scale, as determined by Council from time to time,
according to the amount of damage occasioned for information provided by the public that
leads to a conviction of the perpetrator(s) resulting from damage to public or
commercial/retail (CBD's) property. The scale of the reward system is as shown below:

CATEGORY DAMAGE AMOUNT REWARD FOR A CONVICTION
        1 Up to $1000 $500
        2 $1001 to $3000 $750
        3 $3001 to $5000 $2000
        4 $5001 to $10000 $3000
        5 $10001 to $20000 $4000
        6 $20001 and above $5000

Council may, at its absolute discretion, agree to pay a reward or a proportion of a reward
when a conviction is not achieved but the reporting of the incident leads to some action being
taken by the Police.

Persons providing information must be aware that an appearance in a Court to give evidence
may be required.

PROCEDURE

This procedure, being an administrative process, may be altered as necessary by the
General Manager.

Council will advertise the reward system on a regular basis (usually monthly) in the Council
section of the local newspaper.

Any person who witnesses an act of vandalism or malicious damage should in the first
instance report the matter to the nearest Police Station. The informant should then contact
Council's Risk Management Coordinator to discuss payment of the reward.
