					                                    OTAGO COUNTRY NEWSLETTER
                                                     MAY 2009


As many of you will be aware Greta Mason has resigned as Country Rugby
Administrator to begin a new role. In her place Hannah Catchpole has started.
Many of you will have heard from Hannah in the past as she used to work in the
ORFU offices and looked after the Carisbrook ticketing amongst other things. She’s
been involved in rugby for a number of years now, managing Varsity Colts and the
Otago Spirit NPC team and of course working for ORFU.

Should you need any assistance please do not hesitate to contact Hannah on 03 466
4265 or . She also more than happy to come to your club if necessary
as well. Hannah looks forward to working and meeting you all in the coming year.


After a few minor technicalities the new NZRU rugby database is now up and
running and the points tables for Central and Southern Regions Premier grades can
be viewed. It has the ability to show results for each week and an overall standing
for individual competitions.

                           ALL BLACKS V FRANCE

                        Tickets to the All Blacks v France test match are fast
                        selling out now that Carisbrook is on sale nationwide. Make
                        sure you ring the offices on 03 466 4263 or go online to
               to secure your seats for the game. It
                        is the first time All Blacks have played a test match
                        against France and the first time the two teams have met
                        since the World Cup! Kick off is 7.35pm, June 13th.

                                    TOPP Cup

The Topp Cup this year will be at Toko Rugby Club in Milton on Queen’s Birthday
Monday, June 1st. Like last year there will be 5 games played on this day with the
schedule being:

                           ZERO FEES 1st XV COMPETITION

After two weeks of the competition, South Otago and Dunstan High schools have
been competing very admirably with two wins and one win respectively. If you want
to see some exciting 1st XV rugby pop down to the local ground for the 12.30pm kick
off this Saturday

The draw for each team over the next four weeks is as follows:
 South Otago - Otago Boys (h), Kings (a), St Kevins (h), Southland Boys (h)
 Dunstan – Central Southland (h), Waitaki Boys (h), Kings (h), Kavanagh (h)

        AGE GROUP REP TEAM STRUCTURE – Under 16’s and Under 18
After a review of the structure and selection policies linked to the Otago Age group
(Otago and Otago Country Under 16 & Under 18) representative teams, a change
will occur for 2009, where the top 44 - 46 players in the province, in each age group,
will be selected in either the Otago Metro or Otago Country teams to attend the
respective South Island Tournaments.

Selection for these teams will be based on player’s attendance at the Otago Age
Group Coaching Clinics which will be occurring during the forth coming months
which are being run by the ORFU Resource coaches and respective Rep team
coaches in both Metro and Country areas (venues and dates to be confirmed).
