SIX SIGMA “Six Sigma Quality” is the key to success in today’s competitive world. Six Sigma Green Belts and Black Belts are in great demand. These professionals work on process improvement teams using the DMAIC approach: DEFINE, MEASURE,ANALYZE, IMPROVE, CONTROL. UCC’s Six Sigma courses give you the knowledge, skills and experience needed to use Lean Six Sigma methods and tools, and will help you advance towards Six Sigma Certification. These courses are based on the American Society for Quality Six Sigma Bodies of Knowledge, and are taught by an ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt.The Six Sigma Certificate Program starts with the Introductory Course, which is followed by the Green Belt and Black Belt Courses. Both of these courses incorporate a team project employing Six Sigma tools and techniques. Students may be eligible to sit for the ASQ CSSGB and CSSGB Exams (see www.asq.org for information on applying to ASQ for Certification.) The Green Belt and Black Belt Exam Prep courses are not part of the Certificate Program, per se, but do help students prepare to pass the ASQ Exams. Note: students may take any of the five Six Sigma courses on a stand alone basis, or move progressively through the certificate program (Intro, Green Belt, Black Belt.) All courses taught by an ASQ Certified Six Sigma Black Belt. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS FOR THIS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: AEB 016 - Introduction to Six Sigma This economical 6-hour mini-course introduces you to the world of Six Sigma Quality. During the course of two evenings you will be exposed to Six Sigma terminology, methods, techniques, tools, and roles. You will see examples of Six Sigma Projects, Case Studies, and Success Stories. You will learn about the DMAIC Process, Design for Six Sigma, and Lean Six Sigma. This Intro course can be taken as a stand-alone course for general interest, or as part of the Union County College Continuing Education Six Sigma Certificate Program. AEB 017 - Six Sigma Green Belt Green Belt employees spend part of their time on process improvement teams. These teams use the DMAIC approach: DEFINE, MEASURE, ANALYZE, IMPROVE, CONTROL. This course gives you the knowledge, skills and experience needed to belong to - or lead - a Lean Six Sigma Process Improvement Team, as a Green Belt. This course references the American Society for Quality Six Sigma Green Belt Body of Knowledge. The course incorporates a project employing basic Lean Six Sigma tools and statistical techniques. Graduates receive a UCC Certificate and may be eligible to sit for the ASQ CSSGB Exam (www.asq.org). This course can be taken by itself or as part of the Union County College Continuing Education Six Sigma Certificate Program. AEB 018 – Six Sigma Black Belt This course is for students who have already completed Introduction to Six Sigma and Six Sigma Green Belt. This course continues to build on the knowledge gained in the Green Belt course. You will learn detailed analyses and how to facilitate the development of complex solutions. You will also learn the steps necessary for a successful Six Sigma Implementation and how to facilitate teams to realize real process improvement with bottom-line results. You will develop hypotheses for proposed solutions, revisions to processes, and tests to verify improvements in the processes. This course also covers advanced facilitation and statistical tools and methods used in the Six Sigma Continuous Process Improvement regimen. You will learn to define initiatives, and characterize processes. You will also become familiar with measurement tools, control charts, and cause and effect analysis. You will learn how to generate solutions, detect failure modes and effect analysis, and process management. You will be able to do financial analyses that show the breakthrough bottom line results attained through the use of Six Sigma for Continuous Process Improvement. This course prepares the students for the ASQ Six Sigma Black Belt Certification Exam. The exam is given in October and March of each year. Cost for the exam is $285.00 for ASQ non-members, and $180.00 for members. Instructor will provide complete exam information. See: www.asq.org. C.E.U’s are awarded for this course. Students who matriculated as Union County College students may also apply for College credits upon successful completion of this course. Programs are developed with the guidance of the professional organization that represents the discipline, or by one or more professionals in the field. Students who successfully complete the entire series of offerings within a program earn a professional certificate, which is a credential endorsed by Union County College. REQUIREMENTS: Each Certificate Program has required courses. Some may also have elective courses. Choose courses to fit your personal schedule. You do not have to take the courses in any particular order, unless otherwise noted. For each course in your certificate series, you must meet the attendance requirement, earn a PASS (grading is Pass/Fail) and complete all assignments. Also, take at least one course per semester until you’ve met your program’s requirements. Complete the Certificate Program form, available in the Continuing Education Office. At the completion of the program, notify the department in writing, listing your courses by code, title, and start date, so that we may issue you a certificate of completion. JOB SEARCH AND PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE: At no additional cost, your completion of a Certificate Program makes you eligible to sign up for workshops in resume writing on a space-available basis.
