   HIGH TIDE

NEWSLETTER JUNE 2008
                              Commodores Report
This season has come to an end with the Autumn series fizzled out by light winds except for the last day’s gale wind
warning. There will be some activity around the club over the winter months with working being done on the club
boats on Tuesday nights. The juniors are training with Brian and working on their boats every second Saturday
morning during the winter.

On behalf of the members I would like to thank those with a good club spirit who gave time to help with the working
bees and for the work that has been done. A man walking his dog commented to me that the club is looking great.
There is still some finishing of the bird proofing on the roller doors that Brad would appreciate some assistance.

My thanks to Chris Bick for his new look update on the website since he took over the management of the site at the
beginning of the season. Check it out and see what a great job he is doing.

Recently we received a grant for the purpose of recording Altona Yacht Club’s history. The history of the club and its
place in the community’s development is important to record.
Member participation in the project will be essential for the collection of records, photos, newspaper clips and
memories. Dr Fay Woodhouse of Hindsight Consulting Historians Pty Ltd, Honorary Research Fellow, School of
Historical Studies, University of Melbourne will lead the project.

The Annual General Meeting will be held at the Altona Yacht Club on the 28th June 2008 at 7:00pm followed by the
Presentation night for 2007/08 season. The bar will be open and if you wish please bring your own nibbles. There
will be some changes to the committee so please consider helping out o the committee

Yachting Australia is committed to the health, safety and general well being of all its members and as part of the
affiliation the committee last meeting adopted the ‘Yachting Australia Membership Protection Policy’.
“This Member Protection Policy aims to ensure our core values, good reputation and positive behaviours and
attitudes are maintained. It assists us in ensuring that every person involved in our sport is treated with respect and
dignity, and is safe and protected from abuse. This policy also ensures that everyone involved in our sport is aware of
his or her legal and ethical rights and responsibilities.”

Member Protection Policy Statement (3 pages) and Member Protection Procedures (66 pages) can be found on the
YA website under Committees >Policy Documents >Membership. I would ask that all club members read at least the
Member Protection Policy Statement (3 pages). A copy is on the committee notice board in the wet area.

I look forward to seeing you all at the AGM & Presentation Night
