WELCOME TO HOUSTON!
This dynamic international city is
one of Texas’ top shopping desti-
nations, offering everything from
upscale stores at THE GALLERIA
to deep savings at KATY MILLS.
Houston touts 10 regional shopping malls scattered
strategically throughout the city and some of the finest
independent boutiques in the country. Here are some
of our very favorites (presented by area to make your
shopping day a little easier!)
THE GALLERIA
The Galleria went through a major renovation two years ago
and offers some of the finest shopping around with NEIMAN
MARCUS, SAKS FIFTH AVENUE, NORDSTROM and a flagship
FOLEY’S and DILLARD’S. Some of the great new stores added to
The Galleria since the renovation include: BURBERRY (it’s just not
winter without THE plaid muffler); DAVID YURMAN, classic jewelry;
JIMMY CHOO, edgy women’s shoes and handbags; KATE SPADE;
and one of our favorites, ZARA. Zara made its Texas debut at this
location and offers some striking fashion statements at very
affordable prices. Definitely check this one out!
HIGHLAND VILLAGE
In The Galleria area explore some great shopping in HIGHLAND
VILLAGE (4055 Westheimer) and Uptown. Highland Village touts
TOOTSIES, a sophisticated, upscale boutique with super-chic
formal and everyday wear. JOSEPH is a great shop with the
trendiest bags and footwear in town, including choices by Prada
and Dolce & Gabbana. For an eclectic variety of bohemian-chic
clothing and home furnishings, don’t miss ANTHROPOLOGIE. If you
have to wear glasses, at least wear the best. You’ll find funky,
European looks at EYE ELEGANCE. Also located in Highland
Village, stop by CRATE & BARREL and POTTERY BARN. Close by,
at 4302 Westheimer, check out SURPRISES, an award-winning
gallery and unique gift destination recognized for its originality
(a Shop Across Texas favorite).
GREAT NEWS IN HOME DÉCOR!
IKEA opened its first Texas location in Houston. This is Sweden’s
global solution for affordable, color-coordinated home-furnishing
designs. Very cool. (Located at 7810 Katy Fwy.) For bargain
lovers, you won’t want to miss THE DUMP. Despite its name, this
new discount furniture chain is great and occupies 140,000 square
feet full of off-price furniture. The Dump is open Friday through
Sunday (I-45 north at West Road). Also check out AREA in Rice
Village at 5600 Kirby Drive. A favorite among Houston’s decorators,
Area offers modern home furnishings and an excellent selection of
home goods.
RICE VILLAGE
Don’t miss this great collection of retailers at West University and
Kirby. Scattered among national retailers like GAP, BANANA
REPUBLIC, URBAN OUTFITTERS and CHICO’S, you’ll find some
local boutiques like GLO, specializing in trendy handbags by
Elaine Turner - the owner’s sister (bags have been featured on
“Will and Grace” and “Friends”). Explore LOT 8, great items
from BCBG, Parallel, French Connection, plus the owner’s private
label designed and produced in the back of the shop! JEANS
COUTURE sells the hottest denim labels for Houston’s fashionistas,
plus designer tops. Houston trendsetters flock to WINK for the
latest from Earl Jean, Nanette Lepore, Alice & Trixie and Jimmy
Choo shoes! Also in the area find EL PASO IMPORTS CO. for some
handpicked Mexican furnishings.
MONTROSE & UPPER KIRBY
You’ll love exploring this area on the southern side of River Oaks.
An area classic, PIXIE AND IVY (1848 Westheimer) is a downtown
fashion hot spot, with a well-edited selection of items such as
L.A.M.B. by Gwen Stefani and denim by Joe’s and Yanuk. At 2818
Kirby, you’ll find MIX MODERN CLOTHES, a small shop with exclusive
names and hot runway styles. SLOAN HALL (2620 Westheimer) is
a Montrose classic in its soho-esque style, offering an extrava-
gant variety of gifts and unique accessories. There are some
GREAT ANTIQUE SPOTS in this area too, including the upscale,
multi-dealer shops of the ANTIQUE PAVILLION (2311 Westheimer),
THE BROWNSTONE GALLERY with 15,000 square feet of museum
quality antiques, and LEWIS AND MAESE ARTS ANTIQUES (3815
Garrott St.). Two more favorites in this area: KUHL-LINSCOMB
(2424 W. Alabama), one of Houston’s hippest stores for home
accessories, and MIEL DE ABEJAS (2815 Westheimer) for fashion-
forward clothes (arranged by color) from Earl Jean, Nanette Lepore,
Tracy Resse, Poleci, Juicy Couture and more.
THE HEIGHTS FOR ANTIQUES!
This is the spot for antique lovers. Check out HEIGHTS ANTIQUES
ON YALE with 10,000 square feet of fine antiques and accessories.
There are plenty of great antique shops to explore in this area,
plus some eclectic shopping. ALABAMA FURNITURE has an
assortment of new and gently-used furniture. EDIN mixes teens and
business casual. JUBILEE has the latest trends in clothing, jewelry,
furnishings and gifts. Visit ECLECTIC HOME for furnishings and ac-
cessories, and YUBOS for fine and rustic hand-made furnishings.
