METH078
Rufige Kru : Ever Wanted / Shanghai Dub : Metalheadz : 12"
4.5/5 in DJ ‟Atmospherically cavernous composition‟ The dangerous combination of Goldie and Heist as Rufige Kru
once again provides two amazing tracks, the first being Ever Wanted. Goldie‟s vocals twist amongst a low warping
pad in the intro, as a classic funk break rolls out, giving it that distinct Metalheadz flavour. An 808 bass provides the
low end, its melody hinting at the intelligent period of drum and bass. Effects such as a coin being flicked suggest a
deeper aspect to the track rather than and as always, its only after several listens does everything fall into place.
Shanghai Dub appears on the flip, with its notorious beats and bassline devastating both dubstep and drum and bass
dancefloors worldwide. Futuristic effects and pad fills the air as the heavy stomping dubstep-esque beat pounds away
at the speaker, until its huge warping bassline shoves the atmosphere out of the way and gets in your face. The
perfectly executed Paris drum break is twisted in a new pattern not yet heard, providing excellent contrast to the main
break. Unstoppable!

SBOY021
Vicious Circle : Havana / Relapse : Digital Soundboy : 12"
South London crew Vicious Circle follow releases on Hardware, Critical and Frequency with this superb 12 for Digital
Soundboy. „Havana‟s release is eagerly awaited. The tracbeen getting a lot of support from the biggest Djs, and it is
obvious why. „Havana‟ is led by nervous bongos and a cascading bassline, with great old skool strings thrown in the
mix. This is simple but oozes energy. „Relapse‟ is equally infectious, with intricate, explosive beats and a grinding
bassline. This pristinely produced 12 is their best work to date.

ZOMBIEUK24
Mutated Forms : Coppers / Metal Ringer : Zombie UK : 12"
Mutated Forms are creating quite a stir in the DnB world at present, a recent visit to guest on Grooveriders BBC
Radio 1 show confirmed their status as ones to watch in 2009, add to that a slot on prime time Saturday night
national Estonian TV you know its time to sit up and take notice. After turning their hand expertly to the deeper end
of the DnB spectrum with their last release on Allsorts, the recent exclusive signing to the Grid Recordings Group
keep up the pressure on their return to Zombie with this pair of dancefloor destined bangers. ‟Coppers‟ begins with a
pulsating four to the floor build up overlaid with a menacing US gangster film sample. This gives way to a drop which
would smash the door off any rave, anywhere. Grimey. ‟Metal Ringer‟ is a slightly more experimental Jump Up beast.
The steppy beat combines with a growling bassline which switches up through the track between a low down dirty
rumble and high pitched synth wobbler. Music to bang walls to.

delivers with a great deep tech affair... New boy on the bloke ‟Leks‟ provides the second track on this slab of vinyl,
which is his first outing in the world of D&B... Heralding from South London this young producer is quickly making a

NZLPS004
Hobzee & Zyon Base / Trei & Dose : 1000 Paper Cranes / Empty Handed : Samurai Music :
12"
Finish copy. The fourth and final sampler for the Way Of The Samurai represents the full stylistic diversity of the label
Samurai Music. Hobzee & Zyon Base were asked to design a tune specifically for this project and when '1000 Paper
Cranes' arrived in the inbox it was obvious they had a very firm grasp on the sound the label was looking for. Fluid,
gliding vibes and a subtle sexy vocal ease the tune into its rhythm. The breaks and bass provide a step reminiscent of
Photek to the eastern sonics that unwind themselves around the rhythm. A blissful excursion that continues on from
where their sublime 'Rain On Lens' began, this tune has been receiving heavy play from all those lucky enough to get
an advanced copy. Now its your turn to embellish your sets with this beautifully crafted piece of sonic architecture.
'Empty Handed' is another collaboration from rising New Zealand production stars Trei & Dose. A trademark epic
intro becomes unsettled by a nervous piece of riffage. Bongo's lay down the steps for the drum roll that gives way to
the heavy rolling drop. This tune has an energetic bounce that combines elements of former tunes by these guys like
'Shame', 'Valium Express' and 'The Other Part Of Me' & 'Dirt'. A sure fire dancefloor weapon and a sign of the
greatness to come from these two talents.

BRD003
Utopia / Kubrak : Force Of Mind / Fast Forward : Breed : 12"
Finish copies. After the overwhelming feedback the previous instalment from Breed12inches received, it is now time,
once again, for Breed to cement it's name among the rising labels. Seemingly shaking off the 'Lifted Music sister label'
tag, andnuturing talent at a ferocious rate, A&R extraordinaire Chris Renegade presents BRD003. Unlike previous
Breedreleases, BRD003 showcases a 12" centred around one future artist and his collective - Utopia. Hailing from
Russia, artists Kubrak, Error and Implex are three producers joining forces to bring this exciting and vibrant new
collectiveto the scene. The debut release from Utopia, 'Force of Mind', featured on the A-side - with Kubrak holding
his own on the B-side with his dancefloor crushing 'Fast Forward'. A step on from the previous release,
Breed12inches looksto push the expectations and standard of rising artists, and BRD003 looks set to be a fine
example. KUBRAK „FAST FORWARD‟ Kubrak showcases his own style with the uniquely raw 'Fast Forward'. A true
dancefloor smasher, Kubrak combines outright wierd melodies with menacing growling basslines, distancing himself
from the pack and proving his future potential. With a build up likeno other, the drop will hit you and everyone in your
area code. Twice. The introduction of Utopia to the world is nothing less than enthralling. A minimal intro swells into a
stomping beat laced with so much groove and funk, that bodies can do nothing but move. Twisting bass lines and
quirky stabs finish off an in-your-faceencounter with the Russian collective, one that cannot be forgotten. This is the
birth of a force for the future.

::Dubstep Releases::
PIPS005
Ramadanman : Humber (Sven Weisemann Remix) : Apple Pips : 12"
Apple Pips proudly presents a release of genre crossing business from 2 very promising producers – Ramadanman
and Sven Weisemann. Ramadanman‟s profile is rising rapidly, with his Hessle Audio imprint releasing classics such
as his own „Blimey‟ getting big support from Ricardo Villalobos & other house and techno jocks, 12”s for Soul Jazz
showcasing a unique take on dubstep, garage, 2step and techno. Appleblim has been rinsing „Humber‟ out for quite
some time, its choppy beats and gorgeous phasing synths an instant highlight of his sets…unbeknown to him
Ramadanman had been in touch with Berlin based producer Sven Weisemann about a remix, as Sven‟s gorgeous
work on top labels Mojuba and Leibe Detail had caught his ear…well – here it is! And what a gem it is too… Humber
– Rolling beats compliment the beautifully melodic filtered synths, this has a real 2step / Techno / godknowswhat feel
to it! Bumpin‟ subs carry it through with some wicked progression going on in the melodies…. Humber (Sven‟s
Rumber Remix) – It‟s a real honour to have Sven Weisemann on Apple Pips, him having created one of our fave
house tracks of recent times, „Let‟s Swing‟ on Mojuba…he reshapes Humber beautifully here, resetting it as a dubby
yet melodic house track, with depth and soul…Radio & club support coming from Mary Anne Hobbs (Radio 1),
Laurent Garnier, Gilles Peterson (Radio 1), Martyn (3024), Rob Da Bank (played it last Sunday on Radio 1) Flying

ACRE009
Von D : EchoLow / Truth : Blackacre Records : 12"
Von D – Echolow / Truth. Exposed from birth to the multi-cultural ethos of the Paris suburbs, a young Von – D found
his soul‟s conduit in a beat up drum kit. While the riddims of King Tubby fused and morphed into the foetal jungle of
Photek, Serge Gainsborg issued instructions from the radio. A fusion chef of bassweight Von D deftly slices into
unpredictable genres, concocting strange and beautiful new forms. Echolow takes a proto-junglist break heavy sound
palate back into early 90‟s acid house clubland. With £15 pill in hand we are dragged to floor by the galloping
percussion and expansive subs as Von D snatches at soul samples and contorts them into metallic computer sirens.
Truth is a late night journey through neon reflecting wet streets of Paris. Haunting chords are aided in setting the
nocturnal scene by sparkling pianos, while sinister intent is provided by the cloak of subs. Just when you belted up
and ready to cruse a bruising 4x4 kick and angular square bass stomp on the accelerator propelling you into the
night. In essence Truth is about balance, an uneasy truce between opposites creating a breathtaking new sound.

MEDI016
Clouds : Protecting Hands Pt. 1 / Pt. 2 : Deep Medi Musik : 12"
Clouds is a Finnish electronic music production team that consists of Tommi Liikka and Samuli Tanner. Tommi is a
Helsinki native and Samuli comes from a small village deep in rural Finland. The combination of their musical
influences is evident in Clouds - both members share an interest in the DIY aesthetic often connecting all kinds of
music made with passion, not brains. And passion is a trait that overlaps any genre or style boundaries, leading to
music that is willing to break the mold. The Clouds sound is like a soundtrack to the invasion of earth by little and
green, but dubwise, aliens. It's a fresh take on the standards of dubstep, combining elements from video games,
experimental music and hip-hop with deep melodic meditations and dancefloor-shredding basslines. Always keeping
it fresh, Clouds tracks rarely tread a path they've previously stepped on. This has been noted by many of the scene's
top dj's, leading to Clouds being championed by people like Mala, Joe Nice, Geiom, Skream, N-Type, L-Wiz,
Dj/Rupture, Mary Anne Hobbs and Tes La Rok.

PITCHB001
Subscape : Slow Moe / Artificial Dreamer : Pitch Black : 12"
Subscape: New talent west London based producer Subscape makes a new addition to the Pitch Black stable,
providing Science- Fiction tinged, dirty Dubstep flavours. Slow Moe intros with spacious atmospherics and bleepy
echoes, crashing into a disgusting Heavy Metal influenced drop. Stuttered techno infected bass and metallic LFOs
mutate over this halfstep roller. Artificial Dreamer: is on more of a deeper and musical tip, the title sums this track up
perfectly. Starting off with airy chimes and pads that evolve beautifully into a futuristic movie soundtrack, dropping
into a moving lfo sub-bass workout.

Having been relatively quiet over the last 2 years, DST 007 sees the return of S&D with a mighty 12. Featuring 2
tracks that encompass Search & Destroys' hard yet musical ethos to a tee: musicality and emotion, yet dancefloor
friendly. Blue Mantra: Soaked all the way through with a beautifully sullen orchestral riff and a lush string arrangement
that drops into a snaking halfstep break, swirling arpeggio‟s and a moving brick wall of sub that bounces along with
fierce purpose . This one keeps the vibes musical and female-friendly, but crosses over into dancefloor territory.
Daybreak: As the name suggests, this track is like a rude awakening from a dream. Kicking off from darkness and
ethereal atmospherics into a bumpy push and pull bassline, like riding a dingy over tidal waves of bass. Skipping
breaks mutate underneath stuttered arpeggiators and warped drum fills. These tracks have received support from
the likes of N-Type, Caspa, Oneman, Chef, Luke Envoy, Reso, Skream and even your local Nike Town store.

KAP003
Joker : Do It! / Psychedelic Runaway : Kapsize : 12"
Bristol‟s Purple Prince returns to his Kapsize stable after a brief stint away with „KAP003 (ft. „Do It‟ and „Psychedelic
Runway‟) He‟s been labelled as everything from G-Funk to dubstep, but no tag quite suits Joker. There is, however, a
specific shade Bristol‟s latest king of the dancefloor picks out in his music. “Purple. That‟s how I would describe it,” he
says. “There‟s a certain key I‟m stuck in. It‟s the key that sounds purple.” He‟s quick to dismiss any diagnosis of
synaesthesia, but by constantly referencing the colour, and rolling with fellow west country tykes Gemmy and Guido
as The Purple Trilogy, Joker‟s struck up the sort of relationship with the violet hue that would put Prince to shame.
Strange as it sounds, have a listen and you‟ll see what he means. The 19-year-old grew up on the outskirts of Bristol
and was an avid bike thief and games console enthusiast until the flood of jungle and UK garage he was listening to
took its toll. After beginning to produce his own tunes following a trip to his cousin‟s studio, Joker was soon swept up
in the bass scene of his native city. Cemented into the dubstep fraternity, following a string of releases via Plastician‟s
Earwax, Pinch‟s Terrorhythm and Kode9‟s Hyperdub, Joker is currently the hottest property going. But recent
productions have favoured a more mellow approach in comparison to the volatile grime blare of „Hollybrook Park‟ or
his previous collaboration with Glasgow‟s prince of crippled crunk, Rustie. Although he was only a toddler when Dr
Dre‟s classic „Deep Cover‟ landed in 1992, „Digidesign‟ and „Purple City‟ are instead closer to G-Funk and its
lecherous west coast synths. Of all his influences, one stands above the rest: The Neptunes and their ubiquitous R&B
skronk. With same knack of being bold whilst also astute as Virginia‟s premier producers, Joker‟s mutant post-rave
histrionics are that of the Bristol hotshot truly in his own unique purple patch.

LODUBS1209012
Djunya : Elevate / Puja Karna Sangit : Lo Dubs : 12"
"Elevate" is a sprawling gem of a track, which manages to run wth a certain ferociousness without being derivitive in
any way, carrying its weight above a chassis of pronounced yet un-heavy-handed breakstep by adding what is
natural to such realms, thick layers of keys and bass, but with a purely optimistic feel, that seems to conjure a largely
hidden aspect of the spectrum of bass music. Together, all elements seem so perfectly matched about "Elevate" that
is is almost as though it is an object carved from wood; as if it is, and always was, meant to be, as it is. As doing
battle with an A side like that would be an exercise in futility, we opted to add a beautiful piece of subterranean
ambience known as "Puja Karna Sangit." No less evocative in its own way, yet in a way that without being a direct
answer to such a question, causes one to wonder what maybe Muslimgauze would be up to, had he been alive to
witness this movement. That would, however, purely be in a reference to its mood, as "Puja Karna Sangit" is as
percussion laden as much of the material from the Skull Disco circle, but in a way that seems to hide beneath the
waves of bass like a pulse.

HENCH008
Jakes : Custard Cream / In Tha Place To Be : Hench : 12"
The fourth volume in The Jakes Project series, this 12” is where it‟s at, with two almighty stormers, „Custard Cream‟
and „In Tha Place To Be‟; these tunes are the kind of tunes that explain why dubstep‟s big - join the revolution, and
you won‟t look back! Also, look out for The Jakes Project album, featuring exclusive bonus tracks and mixes from
H.E.N.C.H‟s first and foremost. With plenty more in the pipeline for 2009, we can expect more great things from
Jakes and his H.E.N.C.H crew in the future. A. CUSTARD CREAM With a suitably wobbly b-line, pulsating drum loop
and screeching synths, this has all the elements of a slamming dubstep tune. Warping into the drop with earth-
shattering subs that will shake you right to the core, Jakes knows exactly what he‟s doing here. God knows why it‟s
called „Custard Cream‟...but with a b-line that heavy, who cares?! This tune really takes the biscuit - it‟s going to be
BIG, and it's going to destroy rigs across the country with its sub-terranean levels of bass. Another piece of chunky
badness you can really get your teeth into from Jakes - heavy is just not the word! AA. IN THA PLACE TO BE Next
up, with a heavy hip hop influence and vocal sampling from Run DMC - “1,2, 3 in tha place to be” - we begin another
sonic journey into the depths of one of dubstep‟s finest new tunes. The echoey bad-boy lyrics are chopped up and
flipped over on their head as they merge into a shuddering b-line and the reverberating dubstep mayhem continues.
This tune will simply leave you calling out for a rewind!

STNSN002
Overcast Radio : Midnight Sun / Vendetta : Surface Tension : 12"
With their second release, Surface Tension has chosen an artist closer to home, and one with a unique take on a
distinctly American jazz sound. Brooklyn's Overcast Radio (Chris Jones), an accomplished musician and sound
designer of film and television, brings us two killer slices of jazzy, dubbed-out bass music, tinged with horns and
guitars and a deep film noir vibe. "Midnight Sun" is a meditative exercise in melody and space. From the first note of
the trumpet, you know this is something different. Add in guitar lick echoes and the 'verbed out washes of sound
floating in and out of the mix, and you have a simple but gorgeous combination. When the pulsing bass hits, the
listener is transported to a world of rainy late night streets and Sam Spade detective scenarios. If ever a dubstep tune
should have been a movie soundtrack, this is the one. Once again setting it off right with saxophone licks and the
classic sounds of a Rhodes piano, "Vendetta" hits squarely on the dancefloor when the bass thumps its way to the
fore. Again, Jones melds the swing and depth of jazz, with basement level bass, for a tasty look into the wide open
spaces that the still young dubstep genre invites those with vision to fill.

3/5 in DJ 'As dirty dnb nastiness it works' ALBUM OF THE MONTH in Mixmag 4/5 'this proves Ed & Op are still top of
the pile' ATM magazine Feb 2009 ..music that will blow people's circuits .. meaty production, creepy samples and
futuristic soundscapes..it has peaked the interest of the dj's, the forum botherers and the ravers..immaculately
produced, nasty tracks that have the essence of virus, fashioned in a fresh and exiting way..' The long wait is almost
over, Drum & Bass goliath's Ed Rush & Optical return to the devastating feel of the classic 'Wormhole' album with a
2009 revision of the sound and it's been paying dividends on the underground circuit, with every major D & B dj

CIADK017
Calibre : Two Drop / Understand : CIA Deep Kut : 12"
Dark dancefloor vibes from Calibre. 'Two Drop' has been the talk of the forums since someone caught a clip on
Calibre's myspace, and one listen will show you why. Classic Calibre beats and whistling atmospherics make way for
one of the moodiest basslines around. Subtle wobble, who knew such a thing was possible? Flip over and
'Understand' rolls out the percussion for a proper off-the-beaten-track excursion. A tribal feel throughout and cheeky
drum edits to keep you interested are what pins this whole track together while another grimy bassline works the
floor. DJ Support: Hype, Goldie, Marcus Intalex, Total Science, Commix and more.

BMT001
Blu Mar Ten : Close / Above Words : Blu Mar Ten : 12"
Blu Mar Ten - atmospheric originators and heavyweight titans of cerebral drum & bass science return with their first
new material to cross the 170bpm threshold in three years. Musical chameleons, this North London trio has spent the
last couple of years crossing genre boundaries with their much acclaimed downtempo album 'Black Water'. As we
move deeper into the new millennium Blu Mar Ten's return to d&b is long overdue. This first set of tracks gives us a
tantalizing taste of what we can expect from their forthcoming album. 'Close' Recalling the growling groove of the
early Virus output, Close has an angry tech-step flow, peppered with mentasm and menace. It's likely to take a few
people by surprise, and, as we've come to expect with Blu Mar Ten, the music is written in more than two dimensions.
An inquisitive vocal and some silky synths layer a curious narrative over the raging tsunami of buzzing synths. DJ
support is already coming from names as diverse as Marky, Ed Rush, Utah Jazz, Big Bud, Spectrasoul and the
Hospital DJs, so expect to hear Close intimidating a dancefloor near you soon. "Above Words" In stark contrast to
Close, Above Words showcases the more ethereal sound for which Blu Mar Ten are renowned. Hybrid beats and a
monstrous mixdown remind us that these boys remain technically well ahead of the game, with a towering reese
bassline, Derrick May-esque strings and a heartrending piano line. Showcasing the best in romantic drum & bass,
Above words is getting heavyweight support from D Bridge, Instra:mental, Metalheadz, Ink, London Elektricity, Crissy
Criss, Tom Middleton, ASC, Kubiks & Lomax and many more.

REVREC020
Sabre & Survival : The Omega King EP : Revolution : 2x12"
These guys need little introduction, having been a regular fixture in the Revolution & Lucky Devil camp for a while
now. This is their debut collaboration EP and we are proud to deliver two of London's finest producers on this
landmark release. The title track "The Omega King" opens with some epic strings and a beautiful piano hook, before
the beats make their way smoothly into the forray. As always with these two producers, the bassline remains
unpredictable and morphs its way through the track like a tiger in the undergrowth. Steve Survival gets deep and
grimy in "Point Five", a straight-up speaker battering excursion that lulls you into a false sense of security before
breaking down the doors with a relentless b-line. Penny Black is Sabre at his best - atmospheric, nasty, dancefloor
business. Twisted bass grooves and the usual slick beats, sounding like a futuristic take on the classic Virus sound,
this is some proper next level stuff. "2nd Phase" is a totally different flavour, taking us on a technological journey into
the unknown depths of Survival's talents. Harsh analogue sounds blend with militant beats and some incredible
production skills to create another unique piece of dnb.

Spor : Aztec / Do Not Shake : Shogun Audio : 12"
Possibly one of the biggest D&B singles of this year is finally ready for mass consumption - you wont be able to
escape this one come festival season! Setting records as the first tune ever to appear as Grooveriders rewind track
two weeks in a row on Radio 1, Aztec is a dance floor bomb thats been getting hands in the air all around the world
over the last few months. Spor comes with the D Ramirez style electro-house sound but hes upped the ante by fusing
it with massive, body- blowing beats and towering sub-bass to create this instant crowd pleaser. Aztec has picked up
massive radio play with support across the spectrum from Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank and even Kerrang
radio - this is clearly one of 2009s finest drum and bass moments! Flipping the proverbial script on the B-side and we
see Spor return to his roots as he brings us the trademark twisted beats of Do Not Shake. Ironically though shaking is
exactly what youll do when the distorted, sucker-punch b-line cascades from the speakers amidst a dense forest of
dirty kicks and a dark spoken vocal to scare us into submission. Massive DJ support from Friction, Andy C, Hype, Ed
Rush, Fresh, Grooverider, Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Rob Da Bank (Radio 1 ) and all the
rest!

Technicolour returns back to the action, alongside fellow liquid funk protagonist Komatic with two slices of big soul for
Worldwide Audio, Technique's sister label. Over the past 12 months, Technicolour has turned heads with his lush,
musical arrangements and these tracks take things yet further. 'Preacher' is a peaktime liquid funk bomb, with
lashings of disco and funk influences, and a drop guaranteed to get parties jumping. 'Innervsion' on the flip heads
deeper, splicing up vintage jazzfunk and soul, and creating a cosmic roller that is impossible to resist. Both tracks
have recieved heavy rotation from LTJ Bukem, Nu:tone, Logistics and Blame amongst others.

Code 3 : Delta / Escape Hatch : Shogun Limited : 12"
White label. Next up in the SGN:LTD series is a solid 12 from new production outfit Code 3, comprising of SP:MC,
Jubei and Dakuan. This dynamic trio are no strangers to the scene, with SP having traded his mic for the studio in the
past with devastating results and both Jubei and Dakuan with many production credits to their names, this crew mean
business and are ones to watch for 2009. Delta builds with ethereal pads and dark undertones that work around a
clean stepping break as we hear a mid-range bass bark beginning to seep into the mix. After the brief dropout the
subs roll in to couple up with the snapping bass riff and were off on a heavy Virus inspired journey for the Shogun
faithful to step to. Massive with the likes of Goldie, Firece, Ed Rush and Doc Scott amongst others. Moving on to
Escape Hatch and the vibe continues with an eerie intro awash with computer bleeps and distant tuner samples
before it leaps straight into a heads down, no nonsense piece of lo-fi funk infused with the Bristol sound of yester-
year. The subtle filtered b-line thumps and morphs throughout and by the second drop you have no choice but to
bring out the screw-face! One for the steppers! DJ support from Friction, Alix Perez, Goldie, D Bridge, Fierce, Ed

Loxy teams up with Munk for the second time on Sudden Def and the resulting track 'Definition' confirms that they are

also an established producer who has been growing in stature and gaining recognition across Europe for some time.
As well as teaming up with Loxy on his own 'X-tinction Agenda' and Renegade Hardware, Munk has also been flexing
his production skills on several more collaborations alongside the likes of Mathmatics and on labels including

Jayline & Vast : The Mummy / Kre-Distorted : Dub Damage : 12"
Its about time for Kre to start his own imprint after much success on other labels he has now decided it's that time and
we are glad he has chosen load media for the home of this imprint. Featured on radio one as one of Grooveriders
rewind tracks, this is set for big things on the dance floor. It causes absolute carnage when played and the crowed
never fails to call on the reload. Then on the flip Kre delivers one of his own tracks which makes this 12" a good
choice for any dj who wants to rock the place.

Lethal : Substixentialism / Stormbreak : Position Chrome : 12"
Finish copy promo. Lethal (real name Dan Franklin) found his introduction to producing with a Commodore Amiga
and a copy of Octamed in the early 90s. Around the same time he got into mixing and started himself on what was to
become his chosen path. Influenced by early Hardcore and Detroit Techno it shaped his style to a point that is
evident in his music today. Around late '96 the Tech-Step boom in Drum n Bass broke in a big way and Lethal found
himself hooked on a genre that fitted his taste and attitude… Around early '99 after placing 3rd in a blatantly rigged!
DJ competition he started playing out regularly at various parties and clubs including the infamous Club Labrynth.

EXIT015
Survival : Walk On By / Closure : Exit : 12"
Limited Finish copy promos. As a familiar name on the play charts of many of drum'n'bass' top DJs recently, you'd be
forgiven for thinking that Survival is a new artist; but you'd be wrong. In fact Steve Kielty has been involved in both
producing and engineering since the inception of drum'n'bass back in 1993/94 when he kicked off his musical career
as a studio engineer. It was around this time that he paired up with Roy Mcabe under the guises of Akustic
Research/Banaczech, releasing records on two very prolific labels between 1995 and 2003: Vinyl Addiction and
Partisan Recordings. From there he took a short break from producing and worked as a Studio Manger for West Row
studios until 2005 when he re-emerged as a solo artist under the alias Survival. With a plethora of well received
releases on labels such as Creative Source, Exit Records, DNAudio, Quarantine, Play Music and Shogun Audio,
Survival's deep, organic sound has rapidly earned him a reputation as one of the true craftsmen of modern
drum'n'bass. Collaborations with Break, Silent Witness, D-Bridge, Fierce, Sabre and Zero Tolerance clearly illustrate
the respect he commands from his peers, and with his newly launched Audio Tactics label providing a focused outlet
for his productions, his fan base is expanding as rapidly as his discography. 15 years deep in this music, 2009 is the
year in which Survival will release his first album.

Cause 4 Concern : I Called U / Psychosis : C4C : 12"
Limited finish copy promo. I Called U. Calming, flowing water gives way to a disturbed sounding vocal of a girl who
quickly admits to stalking. Off-beat drums and an unsettling midrange build up the tension and set the atmosphere for
the drop. A bass line with a twisted, lopsided grin grinds smashes its way through the track with undeniable force. I
Called You is unfriendly, uncompromising and impossible to ignore. Psychosis: Like the bigger, badder brother of the
flipside, Psychosis might even be the target of said telephone stalker. If so she's in for a surprise, because this tune
doesn't sound like the patient and understanding type. Psychosis hits you from all angles with its onslaught of steppy
beats, snarling midrange and the type of deranged attitude C4C is well known for. DJ Support: Andy C, Friction,

Two Fingers : That Girl (Spor Remix) : Big Dada : 12"
Imagine if Timbaland were kidnapped and held hostage in a council flat in Tottenham. Imagine then, that elite robot
agents aligned to the New World Order were sent into rescue him with laser cannons little knowing that the
kidnappers were in fact an underground cell of benefit-cheat Jedi. Imagine hip hop recapturing the sheer brutality of
classic-era Public Enemy without it becoming a retread. Imagine if "urban" music was made not for the charts but the
heart. Imagine "Two Fingers". Two Fingers are Brazilian beat-adventurer Amon Tobin and Joe "Doubleclick"
Chapman. The pair met when Tobin lived in Brighton and bonded over an interest in music that ran way beyond the
boundaries of "electronica". In Montreal they applied production techniques associated with UK styles like drum &
bass to the template of hip hop. It was an experiment with explosive results. MOBO-winner Sway (now signed to
Akon's Konvict label in the US) heard what was brewing he was so taken with it, he flew straight out to Montreal and
recorded seven tracks with them, showing a harsher, more serious side to his personality whilst offering wry social
commentary on everything from the way young Black men are treated ("What You Know") to crazy girls who do too
many pills ("That Girl"). The remaining rhythms were voiced by sometime Missy protégé Ms Jade and dancehall
legend Ce'Cile. A couple of instrumental rhythms were added and this, the first stage of a continuing project, was
complete. "Two Fingers" is a project unlike anything that any of the three main players has ever made before, a
unique, utterly uncompromising, brutal and beautiful record that could only have grown out of the UK and the
internationalism of those involved. If it's not hip hop as we know it, then nor is it drum & bass or grime. Like all the
best music it transcends genre to stand on its own - icy, transcendent, brilliant

Efdemin : Acid Bells (Martyn Remix) : Curle : 12"
It's time for something special! Now really, how many records a year are receiving support from Sinden over Gilles
Peterson through Surgeon? Talkin' bout crossover! :-) Who can unite all those worlds? Only Martyn can... Because
we think he is one of the most innovative producers in recent times, we asked Martyn to do a remix on Curle.
Because he had bought 'Acid Bells' when it came out now two years ago, Martyn chose Efdemin's breakthrough hit to
remix. We had to wait exactly one year to hear the result, as he first wanted to finish his debut album - the amazing
'Great Lengths' out now on 3024 - but it was most definitely worth the waiting. Not one but two remixes is what we
got. The Dark Mix will without a doubt tear up many dancefloors worldwide, the Bittersweet Mix is just something very
very special. www.curle.be

Jamie Vex'd : In System Travel : Planet Mu : 12"
Jamie Vexd is without question one of the pioneers of the Dubstep/Bass scene. In January 2006 as part of the duo
'Vex'd', he featured on the now legendary 'Dubstep Warz', Mary Anne Hobbs' show (Radio One) with six other artists
who went on to shape the face of the Dubstep genre. Now operating solo, Jamie is an artist who continually pushes
his sound and does not follow the crowd. A serious perfectionist, anyone who has heard his Massive remix of
"Twitch" by Scuba will know what I mean. 'In System Travel' is a deep lush sounding track. Warm and organic in feel,
it has a wave of bass that will push you along. On the flip side 'Radiant Industry' is a full blown space bass adventure.

Boxcutter's continued support from the likes of Mary Anne Hobbs (of the BBC's Radio One) ensures a loyal following

ceremony to mark the remodeling of the Arecibo radio telescope on November 16th, 1974. The album of the same
name is a space voyage, a musical journey through the galaxy. Arecibo Message collects a number of shorter, more
condensed tracks, one of which, "A Familiar Sound," features electronic soul duo Kinnego Flux with Brian Greene on
vocals. To give the album an organic texture, Boxcutter ditched the computer sequencing and instead employed
analog synths, delays, and guitar pedals. Arecibo Message features more guitars and bass than his previous records,

SENSELESSCD001
V/A : Vocals & Versions Vol.1 : Senseless : CD
The product of almost a year's work Senseless Records are proud to present their first CD project; Vocals and
Versions Volume One's & Two. What started out as an idea for a 12" vocal EP has escalated in to a major project
which will now be released on two separate CDs, two vinyl EPs and digital download. The album features 100%
original and exclusive dubstep, dancehall, grime, bassline and garage vocals and versions from a kaleidoscopic
range of worldwide talent including Warrior Queen, Foreign Beggars, Starkey, YT, MRK1, King Cannibal, Billy Nasty,
Jimmy Luv, Kanji Kinetic, Bongo Chilli, Bunnington Judah, Crunc Tesla, Jack Sparrow, Octapush, Bombaman,
Rekordah, DeVille, Sarantis, Sasquatch, Ghosttown and more. The tracks started out based round a collective of
artists in Leeds, UK, but now includes artists from all over the world including New York, Sao Paolo, Kingston, Lisbon,
Martinique and Canada. The albums are based on vocal tracks from the in house Senseless Records producers;
Sarantis, DeVille, Sasquatch and Ghosttown in collaboration with the regular Senseless family and new friends from
all over the world they've made whilst putting together this project. While they are the first CDs on the label they're
also like a best of the label to date; there are fresh remixes from Starkey [Planet Mu/LoDubs/Trouble and Bass]and
King Cannibal [Ninja Tune] of the label's biggest vocal tracks to date with Warrior Queen, 2004's 'More than Money',
and 'Retaliate' respectively. There are also new versions of tracks recorded up to six years ago, including Justice
Dub, originally a reggae dub cut by Sarantis to play on The High Pressure Sound System in Leeds featuring their MC,
Urban Vox. A diverse set of influences but what unites them is a love of all shades of bass music from the UK and
beyond and combining elements of all the genres above in to something fresh. For that reason it's hard to pin down
the sound of the CD except to say it's exciting, vital and bursting out of the sleeve with energy and ideas. The CD
itself is 100% Carbon Neutral and comes in a deluxe digipak case made from recycled materials and features hand
drawn artwork from reknowned Bristol, UK, graffiti artist Song. 1 Sarantis Ft. Bunnington Judah - Warzone 2 Sarantis

Switchdubs : Mother From The East / Stick Up : Essence of Dub : 12"
Hailing from Folkstone, Switchdubs is primarily a hip-hop scratch dj that has turned his hand to putting a dubstep
twist to classic hip-hop tracks. The first of all which is by Cyprus Hill 'child of the west' to form the track 'Mother from
the east'. 'Stick up' is a bit darker and a more serious track. Both tracks are well produced with great use of LFOs
and the beats are tuff. Paired together they form a brilliant 12" which is set to cause a stir world wide. Watch out for
further releases on this label as Emtek sets the scene for a massive year on his imprint. Make sure you check out

EDMX : 2K3 Beats : Frijsfo Beats : 12"
UK garage, dubstep & electro!! Frijsfo Beats is proud to welcome on board a UK electronic music hero in Ed DMX,
AKA DMX Krew. Ed offers a new kind of treat from the archives, fusing two-step swing and spacious dubstep rhythms
with his immediately recognisable analogue style. The package also includes 'Creole 2', an uptempo ragga rhythm
complete with shimmering electronic steel drums. Fans will know Ed from prolific work on the Aphex Twin-founded
Rephlex label. The ability to mutate a Detroit-esque electro sound into sick hybrid forms is something he's ably
proven on releases like the 'Collapse of the Wave Function' series. The material on '2K3 Beats' dates from 2003-4,

The Black Ghosts : Full Moon (Appleblim & Komonazmuk and Marlow Remixes) :
Southern Fried Records : 12"
In 2008 Theo Keating took time out from DJing and producing under the name of Touché and another incredibly
successful pseudonym to work on a collaborative album with singer and song-writer Simon Lord under the name The
Black Ghosts. The outcome was a beautifully crafted self-titled album full of electro pop gems. One of these gems is
the exquisitely produced and performed yet haunting "Full Moon" which was used in the box office smash "Twilight".
The cult teenage vampire flick made millions in the box office and sold over 200K copies of the soundtrack in the
United States alone. Southern Fried Records have made it available as a single and here come the remixes. Side A
sees the Bristol based duo Appleblim and Komonazmuk join forces once again to create a deep, dubby, techno
house remix which fires on all cylinders. Appleblim is one of the worlds hottest producers right now, many know
Appleblim from his legendary work with Peverelist under the name Skull Disco, he also mixed the fifth in the series of
Dubstep Allstars on Tempa back in 2008 and is also enjoying the success of his own label "Apple Pips" which will see
the release of an Appleblim and Komonazmuk collaborative project inspired by the success of the remixes they have
done together. Komonazmuk has also enjoyed success both DJing regularly on the ever-growing Dubstep scene and
seeing releases on Terminal Dusk, Mode Recordings and most notably Hench Recordings and this joint efforts with
fellow Bristolian Appleblim does not disappoint. Side B is exactly what you'd expect from South Coast's finest; a
perfect blend of orchestral melodies and the trademark floor-destroying bass. This Dubstep remix has all the
elements needed for the instant rewind; the dramatic melodic intro, the winding build-up, and the suspense that finally
leads into the almighty drop - a fast-paced club smasher that won't disappoint fans of Marlow's distinct energetic and
percussive take on Dubstep.

Neil Landstrumm : Restaurant Of Assassins : Planet Mu : 2xLP
A stalwart of the UK electronic music scene since 1994, Neil Landstrumm has released work on many of the most
recognised labels in the industry. Starting with Peacefrog, shifting gears to Berlins' Tresor Records he then upped the
bass-game onto arguably the UKs' most important electronic label of the moment, Planet Mu. Neil Landstrumm is an
artist who always seems to be at the spearhead of experimental, dancehall low frequency electronics. After a lengthy
sabbatical in New York, the native Scot is now settled back in Edinburgh where he continues to make music and
operate his label project, Scandinavia. Neil has toured relentlessly worldwide, supporting each year's releases with
uncompromising live shows using a plethora of sound hardware. Never an artist to rest on his laurels and churn out
the same old, he has built a career on being unpredictable and open to new perspectives from which to hone his
sound. A pioneer of new styles within techno, often copied and imitated Landstrumm has a strong pedigree within the
scene. Unaligned to any one genre, upfront and heavy, he makes music for all-comers to the rave . Landstrumm
steers his way through 2007 with refreshing abandon and the new LP Restaurant of Assassins. With the heaviest
subs this side of Chapeltown, Landstrumm seeks new lows with Restaurant of Assassins bringing together classic UK
techno vibes and modern dubstep with a refreshed rave sensibility. Neil hijacks dubstep structure and its "on-the-
three's" approach but adapts it to his signature sound so identifiable from the decades previous productions.
Undeniably proud of the UK's heritage in electronic music and clearly passionate about the influences in his musical
ouput, Landstrumm has a talent for bringing it all together in unusual and creative packages. Chasing the Great
Northern Raves from the Happy Mondays and Yorkshire Bass N Bleep scene, to contemporary dubstep you can
follow Landstrumm's vision of the ravestep sound in 2007 with Restaurant of Assassins. An unsettling cartel of
badman and plain wrong-uns....

Eskmo : Jetski (Gella Remix) / Sand Dunes (Mi Loki Remix) : Bassrock : 12"
Brendan Angelides, aka "Eskmo", is a San Francisco based producer & live performer. This 12" originally came out
back in Sept 2007 and has now been remixed as part of Bassrock's "Rebel Bass" series "Jetski" is first up on the re-
rub tip by man of the moment "Gella" Gella is a producer and DJ of electronic music. He's been making noises with
samplers, computers and whatnot for the last 16 years. Gella remixes of Baobinga and ID (5 Stars in IDJ Mag),
Unique 3 and Merka in his Mystic Man guise have released to critical acclaim. This bass heavy mix is definitely one
for the peak time crowd Next up M.I.Loki take the reigns and totally crank up "Sand Dunes" to another level!
Originally a subheavy 4 to the floor style stomper they've smacked their own style all over this adding the trade mark

Hexadecimal : Secret Agent EP : Distinctive : 12"
Scott Reeder, AKA Hexadecimal is a man on the move. After winning the Best Breakthough DJ at the 2007
International Breakbeat Awards, he capped an ascendant 2008 with a CD covermount mix CD for IDJ magazine.
With gigs and residencies at Spectrum, The Bomb, Gatecrasher & Fabric & you can begin to see how it became hard
for us at the Distinctive bunker NOT to notice the-man-the-movement that is Hexadecimal. We are dead pleased to
be putting out his Secret Agent EP. Its a precursor to his debut album 'Base 16' on Distinctive later in the year.
Hexadecimals music is a shut-up-and-listen onslaught of high-energy breaks, House with a touch of electro. Things
open up with the genre slaying Dead Moose, its classy slab of crunching house, electro sensibilities and big beats... it
has main room tattooed all over it. Secret Agent adds takes things on a subtler twist by adding breakbeat drums and
crunches to 'spy'-tingling bass synth and chords. 'Nuclear Sub' showcases Scotts breaks roots with a uptempo
whoop and beat fest.

ZEN12231
Ghislain Poirier : Soca Sound System : Ninja Tune : 12"
The future of jump-and-wave riddims comes with the guarantee that 'nuff towels will be hoisted in the air and twisted
madly in appreciation. After dabbling in the sounds of Soca in his legendary DJ sets for two years, Ghislain Poirier
brings his own inimitable production flavor to this revered realm of Caribbean music that combines lilting melodies
from calypso with insistent percussion and South Asian chutney sounds. The results are equal parts grimey, sweat-
inducing, and fun as hell. Perfectly timed for 2009 Carnival celebrations the world over; please welcome the excellent
Soca Sound System EP. On "Wha-La-La-Leng," long-time collaborator Face-T drops the best sing-along hook of this
last stretch of the '00s over popping rhythms and a drop-kick low end. "Karnival" is a full-on dancefloor assault with
squelchy melody and stabbing kicks rocking a cascade of rhythm. Panamanian-born No Ground Under collaborator
MC Zulu takes control of "Immigrant Visa," a monster of a tune where the mere intonation of this man's voice gets
bodies bumping. Famous Soca legend Mr. Slaughter demonstrates why he is the master on the utterly infectious "Get
Crazy." Soca Sound System is the first in a year-long arc of releases from Ghislain Poirier on Ninja Tune. Each will
feature original productions focusing on the various street music aesthetics our man rocks so damn well, and
culminate in Running High, a two-disc album chock-full of killer new material, versions and remixes. Get ready for
this! "Ghislain's new Soca EP is amazing. Uptempto dancefloor euphoria with his massive roughneck sound. It's also
really great to see Mr. Slaughter on here--these tunes will reach Trini and BK carnival for sure.... Who's afraid of

RAMM77
Lomax : Faith Massive EP : Ram : 2x12"
4/5 in Mixmag ‟one of the biggest. longest and widest basslines in years .. and creat havoc whenever it is unleashed.
Deadly‟ Lomax signed exclusively to Ram Records at the end of 2008 and is now stepping up to the plate with his
debut solo appearance on the label. He‟s appeared here and there with Xample on a few releases but this is his real
debut. The EP shows the diversity of the man himself and gives you nothing short of a true underground look into
Drum & Bass. Lead track ‟Faith Massive‟ is a real heavy hitter for all the heads - massive old skool feel with the Amen
break laden with a classic reese bass riff. Chopped up skippy beats take you on a journey in to realms of talking bass
sounds and beyond - this track is very at Ram‟s new residency at London super club, Matter with a sell out crowd of
3000 people going crazy to it. ‟Artisan VIP‟ has becomne a modern day classic over the past year with various
rumours circulating to whether its coming out or not and if so what label etc. These rumours have now been
answered to the delight of Lomax and Ram fans all over. The original was an absolute monster and the VIP more so
by capitalizing on the originals sound and feel and then adding that special missing ingredient. This track is definately
the cherry on the cake for this EP. ‟Mercia‟ is another thats been doing the circuit for the past 6-8 monthson dubplate
/ cdr and has been gettign a huge response on dancefloors at club nights up and down the land. This is a favourite
with everyone from Andy C to Fabio and everyone in between. ‟Avon Calling‟ is the missing link with its catchy, hooky
riffs and talking bleeps throughout from the off. This track has a monster of a drop and a certain funk that you dont
get that often. With this track being brand new we feel it really gives the EP that buy-on-sight element to the package
that we‟re proud to be associated with.

SOULR041CD
Lynx & Kemo : The Raw Truth : Soulr : CD
The Raw Truth is an album that leans towards being many things, Hip Hop, Drum & Bass, R‟n‟B, even Dubstep but
what it actually is, is none of them and all of them at the same time. It‟s something quite unique, a sound that is as
individual as Drum & Bass has ever been, and more importantly it‟s a sound that can hopefully change peoples
opinions on what Drum & Bass is. It‟s music from two artists, as opposed to a DJ and an MC, not aimed directly at the
dance floor but still having enough edge and DJ sensibilities to find itself in all the record boxes throughout the scene.
The Raw Truth is an LP for your headphones, an LP full of songs and stories. Not only an album that portrays an
MC‟s struggle to find peace with both himself and the world at large but also and an album that showcases this
unique producers skills to the utmost. Out of the fifteen tracks, only four are instrumentals. Not a usual statistic for
Drum & Bass, but then again this in not your usual Drum & Bass LP. -Marcus Intalex Feb „09. Lynx & Kemo clearly
demonstrate that they are not afraid to break the mould. Being championed by DJs as diverse as High Contrast, DJ

scene producing heavyweight sonic manipulation. A side „Funk Hunt‟ welds edgy acidic futurism with cunning drops
and beats like no other D&B around today. On the flip „Catscan‟ finds Dom & Gridlok battling the darkside..The result

Nero / Medicin & Implex : Energy (Remix) / Closer To The Stars (DJ SS Remix) :
Formation : 12"
FORMATION FAMILY LP is the next big project coming out of the Formation Records camp to be released in 5 parts
and will be followed by a CD release. Showcasing the best from the artists on the label whom have contributed
individual work, collaborations and remixes. ENERGY (remix) by NERO is bigger, better and more hyper than the
original. This track does exactly what it says on the tin, it injects a surge of pulsating movement throughout a dance
floor. The intro builds with a taste of the swinging bass hook and a bouncy beats, and then explodes with a deadly
bass and strong rhythm that will have any raver gasping for air. One word for this tune is brilliance! With massive DJ
play from ZANE LOWE, FABIO, DJ SS, BASSLINE SMITH and SCRATCH PERVERTS the list goes on. CLOSER
TO THE STARS (DJ SS remix) by MEDICIN & IMPLEX is their first release on Formation as taster to the 20 track
MEDICIN album dropping in early 2009. DJ SS chose this as one of the deepest tracks to remix and add to the
FORMATION FAMILY LP.

SOULR041
Lynx & Kemo : The Raw Truth : Soulr : 3x12"

LFTD006
Spor : Silver Spaceman / Some Other Funk : Lifted : 12"
Finish copy Promo‟s. Following the unprecedented success that has amounted over recent years, Spor returns for
LFTD006 with two hugely anticipated tracks. The A side, but in no means the stronger, is „Silver Spaceman‟.
Receiving acclaim from all areas of the globe, from DJ Hype‟s Kiss100 weekly radio broadcast to the biggest clubs
around, the disco vibes are given a taste of Spor‟s trademark production, with engineering that pushes the envelope
once again. A tame intro drops into tearing filth, all layered with Spor‟s musicality known to move bodies. Imagine the
early noughties feel-good disco era, added with a raw and direct approach – and this is what you get. The B side,
„Some Other Funk‟, is yet another approach to creativity from Spor. Soft melodies, gentle pads and a subtle low end
contribute to a unique take on the term „funk‟. The drop brings a different story altogether; downright grime that twists
to destroy speakers. It is not very often that an artist can be seen to go from strength to strength and maintain a long
shelf life, but Spor proves yet again that he‟s here for the long run.

NZLPS003
Soul Intent / Mosus & Zero T : Hysteria / Carbon Black : Samurai Music : 12"
Finish copy. On the third sampler for the „Way Of The Samurai‟ LP / CD, we team up New Zealand ex pat Mosus of
Liquid V / V Recordings with CIA recording artist Zero T, and feature one of the strongest tunes to date from
Nottingham star Soul Intent. A/ MOSUS & ZERO T – „CARBON BLACK‟ Currently riding a wave of attention from
their massive hit on Marcus Intalex‟ Soul:r label with „Monarch‟, we unleash the long awaited „Carbon Black‟ from this
duo. An obvious studio synergy was evident from the first pairings of these two producers with „Carbon Black‟ in fact
being one of their first tunes together. Awkward but extremely strong stepping drums are the key feature of this tunes
intro dropping hints of its immense bassline as it progresses. The bassline wind out on this tune has caight many by
surprise with its twisted morphing pattern, and you can guarantee dancefloors will latch into its unique approach
every time. DJ support from Doc Scott, Commix, Spectrasoul, Friction, Mosus, Zero T, Total Science, Bryan Gee,
Presha, and many more.. B/ SOUL INTENT – „HYSTERIA‟Samurai Music loves Soul Intent!! We can‟t get enough of
this Nottingham wunderkinds tunes and in fact „Hysteria‟ was the first tuned signed for the „Way Of The Samurai‟ LP
and the initial inspiration for the compilation. An organic drum sound is a constant feature of Soul Intents tunes, and
„Hysteria‟s percussion is another example of his ability to use older sampled drums and make them sound incredible.
A familiar vocal (sung here by Wellingtons Tess), and string provide the vibe for the tune until the breakdown where a
flute (of all things) precedes the Dillanja- esque riff and bass stomp drop . Experiencing more wind backs than a
broken watch, this tune has been the source of many „what the fuck is that‟ questions for some time now. DJ support
from Klute, Friction, State Of Mind, Sabre, Bulletproof, A-Sides, Presha and many more

EXIT014
Instramental : Thugtronik / Thugtronika : Exit : 12"
Finish copy. EXIT014 brings us more amazing music, design, & packaging. After the mighty “Blush Response”
collaboration with dBridge on his debut album The Gemini Principle, followed by an impressive contribution to the
Aptitude Series, Instramental grace Exit Records once again with a this outstanding 12” Both have been created from
the same electronic genetics and sit side by side like brother and sister. Yet another fine example of why Instramental
have been getting so much attention recently. Their trademark clean and distinctive sound has been evolving at an
ever increasing rate, and here we have two extreme directions on the same 12‟ that remind us what these guys are
capable of. Thugtronika kicks off with a solid beat from the off and promptly brings back memories of the legendary
Blue note era. Snares fly around like white hot shrapnel layered with metallic effects that paint an audio landscape
akin to a futuristic war zone. Think twitching android limbs, pumping hydraulics, severed electrical cables and puddles
of toxic waste. Then in comes the bass. Rumbling over the horizon like an army of thuggish robots armed with 40hz
cannons flattening anything in their path. This is one of Instramentals more aggressive offerings which highlights their
versatility and is sure to get your body moving. Thugtronik is like the bleak aftermath of Thugtronika, less aggressive
but still with a low end capable of flattening tower blocks. Hypnotic percussion sets the tempo, and a droning
undertone of pulsing bass complemented with hair raising sinister effects set the mood. Whilst its ugly brother will
move your body, this beautiful sister will undoubtedly stir your mind and soul.

Logistics / Sigma : Sick Music Sampler 1 : Hospital : 12"
White label. Fresh from the success of the d&b chart busting "Jungle Music" Logistics is back on NHS wax with some

the seminal tune from the legendary "Droppin‟ Science" label. We‟ve gone through hell and high water to get the go

So then, another month, another stupidly good Hotflush record – how do they do it? Mutating swamp-garage master
Untold tones things down a bit for Scuba‟s label, and first up is „Sweat‟ - rolling 2-step breaks that reek of classic

beneath a chiming claxon echo.

The Others : Monster Mash / Bazooka : Dub Police : 12"
No messing from the Constables of Dub Police HQ, dropping their most polished productions to date. „Monster Mash‟
is their collabo with the original Dr Frankenstein, stitching together skipping 4/4 beats, retro synth madness and digital
burp bass into a rampaging dancefloor beast. „Bazooka‟ keeps the hype levels high, as the intro of chattering flute
chords and shuffle-break drums combines with the P-funk electro-clav bassline to deliver tons of energy directly to
your waist & hips. Quality stuff.

HES007
Joe : Grimelight / Rut : Hessle : 12"
Bongos, congos, marimbas, woodblocks and cowbells: Joe, the mysterious producer with the everyday name, is no
exception. Taking cues from the emerging funky scene and producers like Kode9, Shackleton, 2562 and
Ramadanman, "Rut" and "Grimelight" are two different takes on a similar rhythmic palette. From a multitude of
influences Joe builds a distinctive sound with sparse melodic elements thrusting the rhythmic percussion into the
forefront, which in turn rests upon a backbone of bass. This Hessle release shows Joe's promising talent; his music,
unlike his common and indistinctive artist name, is quite unique. "Rut" is more energetic and lively, reminiscent of the
start-stop feel of an earlier Hessle Audio release, Ramadanman's Blimey. A skittish drum workout, contrasted by
steady shakers and hi-hats, it builds up a catchy groove that is no doubt extremely physical on a proper sound
system. Reverberating chords, reminiscent of the sombre jazz stylings of Modus Operandi-era Photek, provide a
haunting sense of melody along with floating synths. After the second breakdown, the mood changes and the tempo
is picked up by lighter synth stabs and shuffling cymbals.

NARCOHZ012
Djunya / DJG & Antiserum : Wind Up / The Tide : Narco.Hz : 12"
On the A side is Wind Up, DJunya latest dubwise rumbler. Punctuated with half-step snares and persistent bass
wobbles, Wind Up is a melange of reggae horns and processed skanks, all presented with an atmospheric dub
treatment. DJunya‟s tracks are consistently thoughtful productions, often deriving their musical sensibility by blending
strong, interesting reggae elements with deep grinding basses and great dubstep beats. Wind Up is no exception.
The Tide, DJ G and Antiserum‟s latest opus, is a powerful track, epic in scope, and conceptual in nature. From it‟s
digi- reggae intro, The Tide drops into a very strong (dare i say anthemic?) synth melody with strong supporting bass
work. As the track rolls on, the bass work is greatly expanded upon, with interesting counterpoint elements. The
break re-introduces the soaring melody line, which contributes to a compelling build and exciting second drop. The
Tide is masterfully produced and wonderfully composed. It‟s great melody and bass work sets

EAR009
MRK 1 : Magnetic Device / Revolution 909 : Earwax : 12"
MRK1 is one of the few long standing dubstep producers with a well earned reputation for consistently delivering
quality goods. From his early releases on labels like ARMY, Soulja, Planet Mu and Rephlex, he has always provided
dance floors with a no compromise full-fat flavour – a grimey sound palette matched with a chunky production ethic,
pulling the best together from grime and dubstep to create the MRK1 sound. „Magnetic Device‟ is one of those tunes
that grabs you soon as it drops its warped, intergalactic bassline – stuff to bend your mind sideways! Solid half-step
snares pound over the top while the energised vocal snippets add further character to the rhythm. Big party DJ
ammo. „Revolution 909‟ holds it together on the flipside for a more psychedelic edged take on grime, marked out by
the hypnotic, looping vocal sample from which the title comes. A deeper cut than Magnetic Device, but with the same
high production standards that will make sure this tune still holds the energy in a dance – quality stuff! Support from:
Mary-Anne Hobbs, Pinch, Plastician, RSD, MRK1, Appleblim and many more…

Stagga : Sick As Sin ft. Skamma / Predatory Control Freeks / Freight Dub : Rag and Bone
: 12"
„Sick As Sin‟ is the big hitter, with it‟s centrepiece phrase “Dropping you out like a bong of smack and waking you up
like a bong of crack” courtesy of the vocal talents of Skamma, it‟s got big tune written all over it. On the flip „Predatory
Control Freeks‟ is a different matter altogether. Wise utterings on the sinister intentions of the new world architects
drift in and out of an eerie soundtrack, while „Freight Dub‟ gets deep on a smokers vibe. It‟s swathes of spooky synths
blend perfectly with some hypnotic banter.

From the lands of Nether comes a brand new imprint. Dont consider this a Dubstep label but a label thatll mash up
styles like no one else ever did, Electro, Ragga, Dancehall, Reggae, 8 Bit, House etc etc youll see what this is about
really soon. Its time to take this music to the next level and see what its capable of. Just plain ol BIG riddims. The A
side holds a theme from the ever so cult Metroid game. People who have played this game know what it does to you
and why. And so did this producer from lancaster, by mashing up this tune with heavy beats and roaring basses with
a tad of dnb & dubstep its simple to see why this tune is so heavy. Taking to into the breakdown like a vortex and
exploding like a C4 package detonating in your face this one isnt for the fainted harted. The B side holds a rework of
NIN's Head Down, By taking it up a notch and creating a prodigy like feel its easy to see why this producer will be one
thatll rattle everybodies chain in the near future.

Caspa : Everybody’s Talking Nobody’s Listening : Sub Soldiers : 3xLP
Finish copies. Caspa is one of the UK‟s brightest and most in demand names in dubstep. At 26 he‟s achieved a lot
and as the mainstream has already started to feel the ripples of the dubstep underground, he‟s a name that will no
doubt become more and more well known throughout the year. His album „Everybody‟s Talking, Nobody‟s Listening‟
is released through Sub Soldiers (his latest imprint that he set up as a sister label to Dub Police, itself a sister label to
his Storming Productions imprint) and Fabric, who have been championing him ever since his Fabriclive mix,
including giving him a bimonthly Dub Police residency. It‟s an album that dubstep fans have being talking about for a
long time, mostly because it features a number of huge tracks that Caspa‟s been playing out in his sets for sometime,
but has strategically never released. “There‟s a lot of people that would tear their right arm off for some of these
tracks, people are ripping them off Zane Lowe‟s show and playing them out, it‟s nuts” - Caspa explains proudly.

Geiom : No More Tears / Eyl Booty : Berkane Sol : 12"
Finish copy. Dislocated vocal fragments reshaped into a tight riddim that pays its respects to the classic swing and 2
step of producers like Todd Edwards and MJ Cole, but sounds totally fresh. Epic strings, builds and breakdowns held
together by a heavy melodic bassline combine to create a sensual atmosphere far from the gloomy macho outlook of
current 140bpm raving. Eyl Booty: Heading up the Indian Ocean away from Mauritius towards the Suez canal, Geiom
finds himself and his dragon boat in the coastal waters of Somalia….a skull and crossbones flag can be seen up
ahead….sooner than you can say 'pieces of eight' he has been captured by pirates ! Taken back to their land base at
Eyl Geiom tries to negotiate – the big dogs at Berkane Sol can't find enough dubloons for the ransom so Geiom is
getting worried… Suddenly a helicopter arrives and drops off a huge ransom for a stolen oil tanker…the pirates get
hyped, the crew are vibed up cause they get to go home - time for a beach party..? But they need music – Geiom still
has all the gear in his dragon boat from the Island Noise album…so he strikes a deal with the swashbucklers – a set
instead of a ransom – He gets straight to work putting together new tunes that will keep everyone dancing - the
irresistable 'Eyl Booty' is the first of these to find its way on to vinyl. The whole world seems to be represented at
Eyl….how do you please such a diverse crowd ? Geiom decides to make afrocentric organic percussion elements rub
up against futurerustic synth action to produce a unique fusion. These tunes have been collecting props, club plays
and radio hype from all the usual suspects and also other luminaries such as TRG and Roska.

Freeland : Under Control (Alex Metric Remix) : Marine Parade : 12"
„Under Control‟ is the first single from Freeland‟s new album „Cope[tm]‟, due for release on Marine Parade in June. It
demonstrates the infamous producer/DJ decisively soldering club-friendly grooves with raw musical interplay,
announced immediately in the martial drums/bass stomp that opens the song. It also heralds another landmark in
front man Kurt Baumann‟s vocals - the haunting, distinctively powerful voice of the new discovery who will serve as
front man for Freeland‟s eponymous new touring band. Meanwhile, Spinnerette/Distillers guitarist Tony Bevilacqua
ignites incendiary guitar angles as counterpoint to the kind of jaded lyrics. Marilyn Manson/Nine Inch Nails cohort
Twiggy Ramirez lays down a driving, ominous bass line, and DEVO legend Jerry Casale provides background vocals.
Filled with paranoiac, satirical wordplay and skewed political commentary that complements the futuristic yet
dissident sonics, „Under Control‟ ultimately proves that rarity in club music: an anti-anthem with a brain, yet with beats
ballsy enough to crush dance floors in a neighborhood disco near you. The release is complimented with a
phenomenal remix package including Alex Metric (SUPPORTED BY RADIO ONE Zane Lowe x3, Annie Mac x 3
Annie Nightingale x2, NME Radio A-list, XFM Eddy Temple-Morris x5), Goldenbug & Evil Nine. * DJ Support A-trak,

Rebel Sonix : Dirty Dancin / Roller Disco : iBreaks : 12"
Roller Disco: This once starts off with a bit funkier of an approach in comparison to the B Side of this release. I was
really getting into this tune until the lead synth was introduced. If the idea behind this was to be a breaks tune that
has an electro/fidget lead then mission accomplished, it is a bit much and becomes a bit annoying. I would love a
version where this was used a bit less because the rest of the elements are quite nice. It might grow on me and you
might hear me play it, who knows? Dirty Dancing: Let me start this one off by saying that this is a cool vocal sample
and will get play from me just based on that fact. This is another driving release like the BSD remix of "Dreams Come
True," but has a bit more energy to it. I am quite excited to find the right time to play this in a dark and dirty club
somewhere. Get ready to get your groove on.

Racknruin : Scitzo VIP / Audio Porn : Future Perfect : 12"
After the storming success of FP07 with Dilemn‟s “The Dreamer” and “Flying Guitar”, which both smashed their way
through the top 100 Beatport Electro House chart, we have cunningly concealed another ace up our sleeve.
Newcomer to the fold but no stranger to writing bangers, RackNRuin steps up to the plate with these two slick,
bumping pieces of jacking Electro House. The ScitzoVIP on the A side is a loud wake-up call with insistent synths
and filtered shuffling drums which smoothly unravel like a sleepy jackhammer into a bassline that erupts molten from
your speakers. Angry and unrelenting this lets all hell loose on the dancefloor with disruptive chops, cuts and
harmonic chicanery. Support from Fake Blood, Sinden, Boy 8 Bit, and Mickey Slim to name a few. On the flip is
Audio Porn wth funky, splashy drums, a deeper late-night vibe and Detroit stylings. Holding to a low-slung bassline,
and armed with a sonic array of crazy delays, rhythmic, percussive blasts and glitchy edits to lubricate your ears -
RackNRuin teases the groove til the foreplay is finished and you‟re moist for the main course. The sexiest of sexy-

Stereotype : Sickening / What's That Noise : Hardcore Beats : 12"
This year's smash hit album from Stereo:Type (the pairing of Hardcore Beats' own Control Z and Screwface); ''What‟s
That Noize'' has thrown up some hard hitting singles but none quite as dirty as this one! As far as collaborations go
with Far Too Loud on the remix, you know the beats and bass are going to be paramount in this blistering 3-track
production. For Hardcore Beat's 40th anniversary (of sorts) Beardyman drops fierce sound FX and beatboxes on this
FTL club re-rub of 'Sewer Gash' and the meanest electronic funk outside of George Clinton's colourist's salon. Like a
marshmellow Mustang plunging, smoking into a field of peanut butter daisies this shit is crazy psychedelic, and will
pound you into submission. Get down! In part 2, Stereo:type fling you through the larynx of Beardyman's potty mouth
and spit you out spinning and reeling into a treatment tank of the foulest, low-down, gutter-breaking bass you have
ever heard and even if you had heard before, your momma would have cleaned your ears out and slapped your face.
''Sickening'' by name, and living up to it so profoundly this tune will hurl you out even after having swallowed your ass.
Grimey! The signature track from the album last but most up for it "Whats that Noize?" kicks off with a disclaimer
which in no way endorses the listening to of electro music which in itself is in no way more damaging to your health
than reading forums about music all day but could make you laugh and sets the tone for another onslaught of
meticulous, infectious grooves and sick vocal edits. Enjoy and as always feedback is greatly appreciated!

BBE145SEP
DJ Vadim : Hidden Treasure / Soldier : BBE : 12"
If you want to make beautiful music, you must play the black and the white notes together. [Richard M. Nixon] Not
many – if any - musical biographies open with quotations from Richard M. Nixon. But DJ Vadim, a.k.a. the John
Coltrane of hip hop, ain‟t exactly your average „round-the-way‟ producer. Needless to say, though producer/DJ‟s
these days are a dime-a-dozen, a veteran like Vadim is not the kind o‟ cat to release 12 tracks of the latest invogue
soul loop. In fact his new album, “U Can‟t Lurn Imaginashun” is one of the sickest joints on the block, continuing - and
embellishing – the producer‟s inventive journey into the realm of sound. Anyone that knows anything about Vadim
knows to expect the unexpected, and “UCLI” has surprises - and dopeness - in abundance. On “U Can‟t Lurn
Imaginashun” Vadim hits every note and every colour, not just the black and white ones. Like all Vadim projects, the
songs here are fresh, funky and fun. There are reggae rubs that could sit next to Desmond Decker; neo-soul and
conscious-rap jams that recall Q Tip or Jill Scott; experimental gems akin to the work of Flying Lotus or J Dilla. Mostly
though it‟s the sound of music being embraced and loved, and of a reinspired life being lived. TRACKLISTING
