  1.      EUT Description and operation

1.1.      General description:


          * All description in below clause is provided by the manufacturer.


          The Equipment Under Test (hereinafter: EUT) is a SanDisk Solid State Disk (SSD)
          SATA 5000 2.5” 32GB.
          SanDisk SSD is designed to drive the shift of mobile PC users from the hard disk
          drive to the solid state drive. A drop-in replacement for the hard disk drive, it delivers
          far superior durability, performance and power efficiency - keeping mobile PCs
          working optimally in the toughest of conditions.
          SanDisk SSD SATA 5000 2.5”, with 32-gigabyte (GB) flash memory, is targeted at
          enterprise users as the first step in mass consumer adoption of the solid state drive
          in the mobile PC market.


          The EUT' power supply: 5 VDC (+/- 5%) from internal Laptop's bus.
          The PC powered from 120/230 VAC power supply.
          The EUT's dimensions are: 102mm (L) X 69.9mm (W) X 9mm (H).

 1.4.      EUT setup and operation:
        The EUT was installed inside of the auxiliary Laptop and activated.
        The Laptop was powered via AC / DC Power supply from AC mains and configured in
        minimum configuration (with 2 Speakers, Mouse USB and connected
        LAN, TEL and USB cable) as shown in Figure 1.
        The EUT was tested as detailed in Table 3.
        Test software used: The customer test software “EMI Exerciser 3.19.1” repeating the
        sequences of read and write cycles was executed during the emissions and immunity
        tests.

2.     Test specification, Methods and Procedures

       Test Specification:

       Methods and Procedures:
        ANSI C63.4:2003: "American National Standard for Method of Measurement
                         of Radio Noise Emissions from Low Voltage Electrical and
                         Electronic Equipment in the Range 9 kHz to 40 GHz".
        IEC 61000:         "Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)".
                           Part 4.     Testing and measurement techniques.
                           Section 3: “Radiated, radio-frequency, electromagnetic field immunity
                                      test" (2002).


2.1.      Required performance criteria during the course of the Radiated
          immunity test:
       Performance criteria A:
       (General criteria - according to standard EN 55024 Annex B clause B1):
       The EUT shall continue to operate as intended without operator intervention. No
       degradation of performance or loss of function is allowed below a performance level
       specified by manufacturer, when the EUT is used as intended.

  3.      Additional deviations or exclusions from the test specifications
          Test specification and test levels - according to customer request.


  4.      Measurements, examinations and derived results

4.1.      Location of the Test Site:
          Preliminary radiated emission tests and Radiated immunity tests were carried out in the
          EMC laboratory of the Standards Institution of Israel in Tel-Aviv.
          Final Radiated emission tests were conducted in an Open Area Test Site located at
          Kibbutz Native Halamed Hai in Emek HaEla, Israel.

4.2.      Test condition:
           Temperature: 23 °C.
           Humidity: 40 %.
           Atmospheric pressure: 1010 mbar.

4.3.      Initial visual check and functional test:
          Initial visual check and brief built- in- test of the EUT was performed before testing.
          No external damages were found. The test on the EUT passed successfully.

4.4.      Radiated emission test:
         Initial scans were made using a peak detector but still using the appropriate CISPR 16
         (Quasi-Peak) detector IF bandwidth.
         A tolerance limit was set 10 dB below the specification limit.
         Levels above the tolerance limit were retested using the Quasi-Peak detector.

   4.4.1. Preliminary radiated emission tests:
          Preliminary radiated measurements were performed in a semi-anechoic chamber at a
          distance of 3 meters.
          The EUT was setup in its typical configuration and operated in its various modes.
          For each mode of operation the frequency spectrum was monitored.
          EUT configuration, cable configuration and mode of operation, which produced the maximum
          level of emission, were documented. A list of frequencies to be tested was prepared.

   4.4.2. Radiated emission measurements in the frequency range 30 MHz – 1 GHz:
          The final radiated measurements in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 1 GHz were
          performed at the Open Area Test Site.
          The EUT was configured in accordance with the setup for Table –top equipment
          The EUT (each tested unit, in turn) was installed into the Laptop. The Laptop was
          configured as detailed in clause 1.4.
          Photos of the test layout are presented see in Appendix 4.
          All measurements at the Open Area Test Site were performed at a 10 m measurement
          distance.
          The Biconilog 30 MHz-2 GHz antenna was used.
          The EUT's configuration and mode of operation, which produced the maximum level of
          emissions, were selected.
          The measurements were performed at each frequency found previously and at frequencies
          at which the signal was 10 dB below the limit or less.
          The level were maximized by initially rotating turntable through 360°, varying the antenna
          height between 1 m and 4 m, rerouting EUT cables and changing antenna-to-EUT
          polarization from vertical to horizontal.
          Unless stated otherwise, the measuring equipment settings were:

4.4.3. Radiated emission measurements in the frequency range 1 GHz – 2 GHz:
   According to the customer's requirements, all units were tested in frequency range from
   1 GHz up to the 2 GHz (the fifth harmonic of the highest frequency signal on each tested
   unit).
   Measurements at high frequencies were performed in anechoic chamber at a distance of 3
   meters.
   The specification limits are provided below:
   1 to 2 GHz is 54 dB (µV/m) @ 3 m
   The EUT was setup as described above.
   The result was maximized by initially rotating turntable through 360°, rerouting EUT cables
   and changing antenna-to-EUT polarization from vertical to horizontal.
   Spectrum was monitored for each tested unit.


4.4.4. Radiated emission test results:
   1. The preliminary test results for each tested unit are shown in Plots #1 - #20 (scans of
      preliminary radiated emission tests for both antenna polarizations).
   2. The final test results in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 1 GHz are presented in
      Tables 4-13 (for each tested unit, respectively).
      All results were found below FCC 15.109 class B limits and below additional Dell
      requirements (- 4 dB below Class B limits).
   3. All received radiated emission in the frequency range from 1 GHz up to 2 GHz was
      found below FCC Part 15 Subpart B Class B limits and below additional Dell
      requirements ("Specification Solid State Drive (SSD) Revision X46"): - 4 dB below
      Class B limits.


   Notes: Emission level = E Reading (dBµV) + Cable loss (dB) + Antenna Factor (dB/m)
          For Cable Loss and Antenna Factor refer to Appendix 2.
          The final measurements at 30 MHz – 1 GHz range were performed at 10 m
          distance and the results were extrapolated to 3 m distance.

4.5. Test of immunity from radiated electromagnetic field:
    The test performed according to the requirements of standard EN 61000-4-3.

4.5.1. Measurement layout:
    The EUT (tested unit #10 S/N 02200327) was installed as detailed in clause 1.3.
    The auxiliary Laptop was placed on the non-metallic table in the anechoic chamber.
    A transmission antenna was placed at a distance of 3 m from the EUT. The EUT was
    placed in an area in which the electric field had been previously calibrated.
    During the course of the calibration, a table of the RF output along the axis frequencies
    for obtaining a uniform field of 3 V/m was prepared. The location of the transmission
    antenna during the course of the calibration and the test were identical.

4.5.2. Automatic Method:
    The Test procedure is described in sec.8 of standard EN 61000-4-3 (Appendix A).
    The Block diagram of test setup is shown in Figure 2.
    - Use Schaffner-Chase RF Immunity Test System CIS9942 software.
    The test was performed according to standard EN 61000-4-3 requirements.

4.5.3. Swept frequency test procedure:
    The EUT was operated according to clause 1.3.
    During the course of the test, electromagnetic fields were generated according to the
    prepared calibration table.
    The frequency range was swept incrementally from 80 MHz to 1 GHz, the step size did
    not exceed 1% of the fundamental frequency.
    The test signal was 80% amplitude modulated with 1 kHz sinewave.
    The dwell time at each frequency was 1 second.
    The test signal level was 3 V/m unmodulated (as set out during the calibration process).
    The test was performed twice: with the antenna positioned vertically and again with the
    antenna positioned horizontally.

4.5.4. Required performance criteria:
    According to clause 2.1.

4.5.5. Test results:
    The EUT operated as intended during the course of the tests and subsequently.
    No deviations from specified criteria occurred.
