Solar Energy – Labeling of solar water heater

   1- Scope: This Jordanian Standard covers the nameplate of the flat plate solar
      collector and the hot water cylinder, and the information that should be stated
      in the manual.

   2- Flat Plate Collector:

       2.1 Aim:
          To present the main data that should be stated in the nameplate of the solar
          collector operating in the natural syphone system.
       2.2 Requirements
           Each collector, should contain at a visible place, the following
           information:
       2.2.1 Manufacturer name and address or his registered brand name or both.
       2.2.2 Country of origin
       2.2.3 Model number and serial number.
       2.2.4 Production year.
       2.2.5 Aperture Area (m2)
       2.2.6 Maximum working pressure (kg/cm2)
       2.2.7 Other warning statements or instructions related to operating the
               collector safely.

   3- Water cylinder
      3.1 Aim
      To present the main data that should be stated in the nameplate of the hot
      water cylinder operating in the natural syphone system where the hot water
      cylinder is separate from the solar collector.

       3.2 The hot water cylinder has the following components:
           a- Internal body: The part containing the hot water.
           b- Insulation: Surrounding the internal body.
           c- Outside cover: surrounding the insulation for protection.
           d- Electric Heating Element: To heat the water when required.

       3.3 Requirements:
       Each cylinder, should contain at a visible place, the following information:

       3.3.1   Manufacturer name and address or his registered brand name or both.
       3.3.2   Country of origin
       3.3.3   Model number and serial number.
       3.3.4   Production year.
       3.3.5   Net capacity of the cylinder (Liters)
       3.3.6   Maximum working pressure (kg/cm2)
       3.3.7   Power and voltage of the electrical heating element (Watts and Volts)
4- Instructions Manual:
An instructions manual (in Arabic) along with illustrating drawings should be
distributed along with each solar system or any of its components. The
instructions manual should contain the following information:

4.1 A small description explaining the installation and operation of the solar
    collector.
4.2 Collector maintenance instructions and procedure to be taken when the
    efficiency drops.
4.3 Collectors efficiency curve in accordance with the Jordanian Standards
4.4 Data stated at the nameplate
4.5 Collector’s dimensions
4.6 Materials used in manufacturing the collector
4.7 Collector weight (when empty)
4.8 Collector weight (when full with liquid)
4.9 Any other information, the manufacturer sees it is required.

   1- Scope: This Jordanian Standard specifies the requirements for construction of
      Flat Plate Solar Collectors.

   2- Components of Flat Plate Collectors:

   The Flat Plate Collector is composed of the following parts:

   2.1   Absorber Plate
   2.2   Headers
   2.3   Cover
   2.4   Collector Box
   2.5   Insulating Materials
   2.6   Sealants

   3- Construction Requirements
   3.1 General
       3.1.1 Design and construction
           a- The construction requirements stated in this standard are applicable to
              all covered flat plate collectors.
           b- The solar collector should be designed and constructed so that it will
              be rigid and resistant during transportation and erection.
           c- The collector’s components should be designed so as to allow the
              expansion and contraction of the parts that are susceptible to expansion
              and contraction.
           d- The collector’s components should be selected so as to withstand the
              maximum and minimum temperatures the collector is subjected to.
           e- Care should be taken in selecting the collector’s components so as to
              prevent corrosion to any part.
           f- The collector’s components should be designed and constructed so as
              to withstand the weather changes.
   3.2 Assembly
       3.2.1 Manufactured components
              Each solar collector should contain all the necessary components to
              reach the required efficiency, and when these components are
              assembled, and the transparent cover is fixed to the collector, the
              expansion and contraction at minimum and maximum temperatures
              should be taken in consideration.
       3.2.2 Ease of Accessibility to collector’s components:
              All collectors’ components should be assembled in a way so as to
              permit easy maintenance and replacement according to the instructions
              manual.
       3.2.3 Water Draining
              A method should be provided to prevent rainwater and condensation
              from inside the collector. Furthermore, care should be taken to ensure
           that all components are dry in order to avoid condensation, which
           reduces efficiency.

3.3 Installation Requirements
    3.3.1 Installation
    Each collector has to be supplied with accessories, which allows it to be fixed
    easily and rigidly.

   3.3.2   Connections:
           Each collector has to be supplied with the necessary connecting
           accessories for the main headers so that it would be possible to install
           and dismantle the piping easily and in accordance with the installation
           manual without causing damage or breaking the collector or any of its
           components.
