Project: LCI Data for Municipal Solid Waste Incinerators
Your partners: Dr. Ulf Richers
Main research activity: Energy and Waste Contracting ITC-TAB
Project Duration: 1 May 05 - 31 Dec 06
In Germany, 60 municipal solid waste incinerators with different design are currently in use.
Due to the vision 2020 demanding for a landfill free municipal waste disposal, the capacity of
thermal waste treatment will increase in future.
Economic, political and ecological aspects will be taken into account for decisions about the
applicable technology in municipal solid waste incinerators as well. An accurate inventory
analysis provides a basis for impact assessment and interpretation of LCAs.
Within the scope of this project, inventory analysis data are composed describing the current
state of the art of municipal solid waste incinerators. Subsequent, a model for different plant
capacities and flue gas cleaning systems will be developed.
A comparison of new municipal solid waste incinerators with existing older plants delivers
information about the ongoing developments of the systems engineering. Additional results
provide the maintenance of the data, i.e. how a review of data and models has to be done.
