The Interview
It’s ok to be nervous before your interview – after all, it’s a totally new environment you’re
about to enter with new people to meet.
Hopefully you have already read “Dressing for Interviews” and “What to avoid at an
Interview”. If not please go and look at these documents.
Preparation Tips
• Research as much as you can about the organisation – products, services, customers,
competitors. Use the web and ask friends and family.
• Re-read your resume and cover letter and the details of the job advertisement.
• Practice interviews with friends or family.
• Prepare some questions that you would like to ask the employer.
On the day
• Be punctual – You will be given an interview time. Please ensure you arrive 10
minutes before your first interview so we can mark you off the list.
• Dress suitably and remember your personal hygiene, wash your hair, wear deodorant.
• Be well prepared, take a copy of your resume and cover letter and a list of questions
you may like to ask.
The Interview
When you meet the employer
• Stand up
• Make eye contact
• Smile ☺
• Introduce yourself
Remember – first impressions count
• Be polite and answer questions truthfully to the best of your knowledge.
• Sit up straight, don’t slouch, your body language is powerful and slouching may imply
that you are not really interested in the position.
• If you do not understand a question don’t be afraid to ask them to repeat or explain
the question again.
• At the end of the interview, thank the interviewers form their time.
