CHORAL NOTES!!!
Welcome back everyone! We hope that you had a great summer! We look forward to providing
your children with a wide variety of musical experiences and opportunities for personal and musical
growth during the upcoming year!

We extend a special invitation to all Grade 9 Parents and to Parents new to our program to
attend the first meeting of the Music Parent’s Association in September.

This will be a great opportunity for you to meet other parents and gain more insight into the
program your child will be involved in. We extend a thank-you to the parents who have agreed to
take on executive positions with the association. Without the support of these parents we would be
unable to continue to provide the many outstanding musical opportunities available to Campbell
music students.

CHOIR RETREATS AND WORKSHOPS!
Choral retreats and workshops are essential elements of the choral program. An important
part of being a choir member is being a team player. The choral retreats provide each choir with
the opportunity to work together as a team as they have an intense weekend of choral rehearsals,
vocal technique sessions and other sessions that enhance the team building process. We have
worked very hard to ensure that these experiences will not be expensive!

about the retreat will be distributed at the beginning of September. The camp is an ideal spot for a
choral retreat, and it will be an excellent experience for all involved. Choir members are
expected to have made arrangements in their schedules in order to accommodate this
event. It is absolutely crucial that all members of the choir attend this retreat, as it requires
a complete group effort in order to be successful.

WORKSHOPS, CLINICS AND INVITATIONAL CONCERTS!
The Campbell vocalists will have the opportunity to work with a variety of nationally recognized
clinicians during the upcoming year as well as host a number of guest choirs. These facilitators
and choirs will be brought to our school for week day or weekend workshops, and regular
rehearsals.

CHORAL MUSIC TOURS (Meeting regarding these Following CAMPA AGM)

Campbell are an integral part of the program, and provide a necessary extended performance

INTERNATIONAL TOUR OPPORTUNITIES/INVITATIONS FOR CAMPBELL
CHORAL MUSIC!

The Campbell Choral Department has received two major international invitations during the
past year.

WORLD EXPO 2010 IN SHANGHAI CHINA!
The Campbell Chamber Choir has been presented with the unique opportunity to
sing in China in association with the 2010 World Expo in July 2010.

Shanghai is hosting the 2010 World Expo and the preparations are ambitious and spectacular.
International expositions are one of the world's largest and most thrilling events. They inspire the
entire world to come together to celebrate their shared dreams for a better future.

The 2010 Expo Canada Day Choral festival will feature individual performances in Beijing
(Forbidden City Concert Hall) as well as our individual and combined festival performances in
Shanghai in connection with Canadian festivities.
The Expo honors each of the countries represented there with celebrations for their national day.
The choral festival will celebrate Canada Day eve and Canada Day with spectacular concerts and
the gala combined performance.

After careful consideration, we felt it was appropriate to present this opportunity to our Chamber
Choir families as there has been interest expressed in pursuing this additional opportunity further.

Therefore we will be holding a WORLD EXPO INFORMATION MEETING in September! Parents
will be notified of the meeting date by the end of August.

PHIL MATTSON VOCAL JAZZ FESTIVAL – CARNEGIE HALL, NEW YORK!
The Campbell Senior Vocal Jazz Ensembles have received an invitation to participate in a very
special performance opportunity to be held at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The event will take place April 6 - 10, 2010 featuring top vocal jazz ensembles from across North
America under the direction of the world acclaimed composer/educator, Mr. Phil Mattson.

As our upcoming school year tour plans have already been made for this year, we look forward to
pursuing this opportunity in future years, and we are very honored to have received the invitation.
