Hello again peeps! Yes we are now on our 4th issue and boy am I glad that we made it. As months go by, things get harder and harder, and now it will be much tougher with the occurance of a very unfortunate incident; Mike our sales manager has been deported back to his homeland, Kuching. He had to literally uproot from KL and fly back to Sarawak for good. Good bye fast paced, ruthless KL lifestyle, Hello ‘kolok mee’ and living life about 5 frames per second slower. (I suspect his work permit in KL expired...hahhahaha) We are also currently running Home A Pet 2008 again at IKANO, Mutiara Damansara for the 2nd time. Packed with pets all looking for new homes, do lend us your support and give us a helping hand. We would be at IKANO for a good 3 weeks of our lives and to show you how long we have been going back and forth to IKANO; we now even know the security guards and mall cleaner’s names! Oh yes before I go off, let me announce to you that we wil be holding a 3rd Home A Pet 2008 at Bukit Jalil in July! This is also in -conjunction with Komplex Sukan Negara’s 10th Anniversary celebration. We named this edition ‘Home A Pet 2008 - It’s Meow Time!’ for it is a kitty only event! So till the next installment of Petster Magazine, - Joshua Boey

Extracted from ‘Silent Cries’: THE FINAL GOODBYE – MAX Continued from last issue...
We went to bed early that night right after David’s telephone conversation with Dr. Tim, my regular vet. “The visit to the vet…” The next morning, David drove us to Dr. Tim’s clinic. When we reached, Stacy carefully put a leash around my neck and led me to the clinic. I am usually nervous every time I come to this place. I don’t know why. The smell is enough to make me sick. I never really knew what actually happened to me. Dr. Tim made me go through all sorts of tests and I obediently obliged. “It’s getting worse….” Back home, I remember Stacy feeding me with a bunch of awful stuff. I think it is called medicine. I hate the taste so much that I often vomited and coughed out the tablets. However, Stacy is very clever. She hid those awful tablets in my food whenever I refused to take them. Eventually, three months down the road, I was already accustomed to the awful and bitter taste. Stacy was very patient with me. She really wanted to see me well again, which is why I didn’t mind forcing myself to swallow them. Six months and a few trips to the vet later, I sensed that my condition was getting worse. The blurry vision is still there and occasionally I feel something sharp poking my head. Worried of my condition that didn’t seem to improve, Stacy and David once again consulted Dr. Tim. This time, they were unprepared to hear the news from Dr. Tim. Dr. Tim knew this would hit them hard, especially when he knew how much they loved me. Stacy broke down instantly. David was speechless. He looked thunderstruck. Dr. Tim told them he is willing to perform on operation on me, but either way, I would not be able to make it. So, he suggested that I be put down in a painless way. Obviously, Stacy and David need time to think. As much as they do not want to see me in pain, they were left with cruel options. We all left Dr. Tim’s clinic feeling rather distraught. “Hard decision….” Back home, Stacy and David kept stroking me as I lay down on Stacy’s lap. The truth is that I really don’t want to die. I was scared too that I didn’t know what to do. The pain got worse day by day and I could do was lie down. Whenever I fell asleep, I have this dream of running and playing fetch in the garden with Stacy and David, just like I used to do when I was younger. They used to rub my belly to sleep. I enjoyed every outing with them. On most nights, I would turn myself into a watch dog to ensure that our house is safe from intruders. I would sleep at the edge of their bed. I really want to tell them that I love them very much. Although I may not be able to express it like humans, I would if only I could. I can only express them by showing them my frolics. Whenever I craved for attention, I would pull up a sad face. They have never complained one bit about my cravings for attention though. Nevertheless, a week passed and the big day arrived. “Saying goodbye….” I still remember the day I was scheduled to be put to sleep. I remembered Stacy’s and David’s faces as they said goodbye. I had never seen them cried like that before. It was so heart breaking. As I jumped onto the doctor’s surgery table, I shuddered at the idea of dying. The pain that had gotten worse from time to time had left me with no choice. Spiritually, I longed to live, but physically I wasn’t strong enough. The doctor called Stacy and David down. He kept saying that it was for me best. I gathered that either I suffer a long time and eventually die, or die a quick death such as this. I am truly confused. My sickness was already in its advanced stage and to die naturally is not an option. Stacy and David bravely walk towards me as I lay down on the cold table. Gently, they held my paws and whispered in my ear about how much they loved me and they do not wish to see me suffer. They promised me that I will always have a special room in their hearts. I was their favorite dog forever and always. Tears streamed down their cheeks and I licked it away for the last time. It is my way of saying thanks and I love you very much too. Deep inside, I was crushed to thousand pieces. I felt helpless as there was nothing much I could do myself. He doctor proceeded to inject me with a yellowish liquid. After a few seconds, my whole body felt numb. I was staring at Stacy and David as I breathed my final breath. They sobbed and cried so hard when I struggled for air. I felt a throbbing pain in my chest. I felt like something was preventing me from breathing. Gradually, my visions became blurry and the sounds around me faded. Then, I saw a light. I was sucked right into it. Then, I remembered everything. But it was too late to turn back now. And so I left in peace.

Creature FEATURE
From Russia, With Love
They hail from the land of the Tsars and are now living happily in the country of ‘BolehLand’!
Eva the toy poodle originates from the land of Russia, and is also from an elite club called the Elite Grande Monte, the best poodle club in Russia. The Club in Russia mixes champion breeds and Eva comes from an American / Russian champion breed lineage. It is also a very long process in selecting the right breed of poodle from different countries to ensure that the lineage consists entirely of champion breeds. The Elite Grande Monte holds these strict guides as they believe that with only breeding within the champion lineage, they are able to maintain certain qualities of the poodles which is highly sought after. Poodles born will possess a certain length of snout, a certain size of eyes and a certain colour and quality of fur coat. All poodles from the club are apricot colour, as the founder believes that apricot coloured poodles inherit a certain personality characteristic that is unique. Julia, Eva’s owner, brought her to Malaysia when she was just about a year old. When they first arrived in Malaysia, she was quarantined for only one week as all her conditions were AOK and met all requirements to enter our country. After that, Julia and Eva have been happily residing in Malaysia for over 2 years. Julia is an avid dog lover. She previously owned a pitbull and a Chinese Crested back in Russia. Now the only bundle of fur in Julia’s life is Eva.

I love my Christmas presents!
I asked Julia why makes the poodle special to her. Julia commented that a poodle is a combination of elegance and intelligence, sometimes seem aloof. She loves how they always stand proud and like to be looked at and admired. For Eva, posing is not an option, it’s a must! I’m sure you can tell by the photos. “My dog is like my best friend, she follows me everywhere” When she came to Malaysia for the first time, there were some difficulties in adjusting to the hot, humid weather. The air in Russia is very unlike the air in Malaysia. It is thin, cold and dry. She did suffer some wheezing and respiratory problems at first but slowly adjusted. Julia always makes sure that Eva hangs out in an air conditioned areas because she is used to colder temperatures and can’t quite take the heat well. Despite this, she still goes to parks, beaches and cafes. Eva too does almost anything and everything with Julia. From watching TV, to keeping her company while working on the computer, Eva stays by Julia’s side. Julia commented that she doesn’t feed Eva any processed meats as she believes it’s like fast food. She will only eat what Julia cooks for her and her favourite food is buckwheat (some form of cereal) with beef! Sounds yummy. “She doesn’t like dirt and muck. Funny thing is, she quite likes the rain...” Most owners have problems when bath time rolls around, but not this poodle. She gladly goes to the bathroom all by herself. Julia never needs to force her into the bathroom, she enjoys baths. Eva loves playing in the rain to despite getting dirty. After that, its bath time again! “Poodles are an intelligent bunch, they are fast learners too.” Julia said that Eva was never formally trained nor ever joined any sort of obedience school. It was just everyday communication with owner that enabled Eva to understand what her owner wants and feels, and also what is the proper way to act and behave. Dogs learn the fastest during their first year and she was taught by Julia back when they were in Russia. She primarily understands commands in Russian but is able pick up a few English words due to repetition and exposure to the language. Julia’s advice to all dog owners is to always be close to your dog, show it affection and always keep communicating only with a calm tone. Love your dog, respect your dog, and it will do the same to you! “Dogs are actually a reflection of their owner.” - Julia I do think so too! Oh yes, before I end this article. Eva is currently looking for a male poodle suitor too! He must be MKA certified and for any further information, do contact Julia directly: Julia Shestakova Mobile: +6013 333 7688 Email: jushes@hotmail.com

Q. Tell me more about heartworm disease and how to tell if my dog is suffering from it. A. Heartworm infection is caused by a parasite that when mature will live
inside the heart of a dog. When fully grown it measures about 30cm in length and 1mm in width. This parasite is carried from dog to dog via mosquitoes. When the infected mosquito bites your dog, parasites are introduced into your dog and in about 6 months your dog will suffer from heartworm infection. In early part of the disease, the symptoms are not noticable. Therefore it would be impossible to tell if your dog is suffering from heartworm disease. These are some of the symptoms that may show up later as the disease matures: There will be restricted flow of blood from the heart to the lungs causing: - loss of stamina - weight loss - breathing difficulties - coughing
Sometimes they will have fainting spells and abdominal swelling, and if left untreated it will lead to a heart failure resulting in death. Your vet should be able to tell if yur dog has heartworm by doing a simple blood test. Therefore visit your vet when your puppy is about 5 months old and the vet will advice you when to begin the heartworm treatment. Those who have older dogs and have never been treated for heartworm, the vet will first do a heartworm test and then will advice your accordingly.

The Dog’s Blog
by Carlos Huertas
Control the Dog, You control the situation
At one time or another, every owner has to deal with problem behavior. Understanding why your dog does what he does, and how to handle the situation correctly can help resolve problems quickly. Here are some basic guidelines that apply to nearly all problem situations:
Control the dog and you control the situation. By putting on a training collar and lead, you can control the dog. For many dogs, their training equipment means business, not playtime, and this can help in a problem situation. A dog who is on lead cannot run away or chase people or other animals, and his owner has a chance to help him understand what he should do by guiding him with the leash and collar. Be positive. Instead of saying “NO”, try giving your dog something positive that he can do for you, such as “Sit”, or “Heel”. This positive approach means you can praise generously for his good actions, instead of simply yelling at him. For example, a dog who jumps up can be told to sit, and helped if necessary, then praised for sitting. Allow a dog to be a dog. Often, what owners consider problem behavior is simply normal dog behavior that they find unpleasant or annoying. For example, digging is a natural canine activity but distressing to a garden proud owner. Instead of scolding for what comes naturally, it might be kinder to set up an area in which you have buried small treats to make it more attractive than the rest of the yard, and praising your dog for digging in “his” garden. Whenever natural behaviors conflict with what you might like, be creative and see if you can find an outlet for those interests and activities that is suitable for you both.
Be consistent. It is unfair to the dog to change your rules depending on what you’re wearing, who’s visiting or the kind of day you’ve had. If your dog is allowed on the furniture, he will be confused when you yell at him because Uncle Peter is visiting and he doesn’t think dogs should sit in chairs! If he’s allowed to jump up when you’re wearing jeans and a sweatshirt, don’t be surprised if he can’t tell the difference between that and your best evening gown. Whatever your rules are, keep them consistent. Have your dog earn what he wants. While everyone needs a few freebies now and then, your dog will not think you are a wonderful owner if you play with him, walk him, feed him and pet him whenever he demands it. In fact, this often creates problems since from the dog’s point of view an owner who can be “trained” this well is not one who deserves much respect. Teach your dog to say “please” by sitting, or following some other command before he gets what he wants. Be clear. Owners often confuse dogs by changing the words or commands, repeating them over and over again without showing the dog what is meant, and worst of all, assuming that the dog understands. Remember that while we use words to communicate, dogs are masters of reading body language. If your body language tells the dog one thing, but your voice tells the dog something else, chances are he will believe your body language. This is why people who bend towards their dog and shake a finger at them while scolding “No, no, no” often receive a playful bark - their body posture is much more like a dog inviting play than a dog who is annoyed or angry.
i’m pissed...and
you know it
exercise is vital for breeds whom are born to work
Exercise, exercise, exercise! The most common cause of problem behavior is boredom and a lack of sufficient exercise. While you work or go out, your dog has little or nothing to do, and his need to exercise will not go away. A familiar yard or house is boring, and few dogs exercise on their own without interaction with their owners. Take the time to play with your dog, jog with him, walk in the woods, swim or take long brisk walks each day. A tired dog is always a well behaved dog! Understand your dog’s genetic heritage. Whether you own a Doberman a Beagle, or a Samoyed ,it is important to understand what your dog was bred to do. Owners often forget that the behavior that prompts a dog to run or stay close, hunt or guard, chase and kill or herd, work with people or work independently are all the result of generations of carefully selected traits. Research your breed’s history, and talk to people who understand your breed’s characteristics. You may find that Ruffu’s tendencies, while annoying or amusing, are precisely what makes him what he is. You can then decide how best to work with your dog’s instincts and where you need to concentrate training efforts. Train your dog. Every dog should have basic manners, but dogs are not born knowing how to behave. Take the time to train your dog on a consistent basis using kind, positive methods. Find a class near you whose methods and philosophies you like. If faced with a behavior problem you can’t solve, ask people you trust for a recommendation of an experienced trainer .Or call & visited as ad www.g-pet.com for a free consultation & evaluation: 012 2313183, and get professional help fast. The sooner you begin working on a problem the sooner you will have it solved.

Pet Fashion trends...
Making Style with Health aspects for pets much more accessible!
Pampering your pet with manicures, styled trims and spas would probably have never crossed your mind if you were a pet owner just about 10 years back. The pet industry has grown tremendously since 6 years ago with the emergence of pet grooming saloons that cater to the changing tastes of pet owners in this era. In 2005, Pet Fashion managed to become one of Malaysia’s main suppliers of pet accessories and specialist products. Initially, Pet Fashion began with the distribution of Japanese designed pet accessories that were manufactured in China named “Lovabledog” and “Peppets”. From there they took off with their own pet products under the brand of “Pet Fashion”. They recently added the “Elegant” brand series that cover products like bags and beds. Pet Fashion is also the sole distributor in Malaysia for the famous Japanese specialist grooming and beauty care products called ‘Pet Esthe’. 5 years ago, Pet Esthe products could only be found in grooming saloons and were not available for the public. These products were specialist products which only groomers can use and would only be known to people whom are in the grooming industry. Seeing that the pet industry is evolving, Pet Fashion sought to fill up the void of products supporting the grooming industry in Malaysia by bringing in these grooming specific products. Now, their products are available commercially in selected pet stores for the public to buy and use right at the comfort of their own home. Pet Fashion distributes the most complete beauty care grooming series featuring a full range of products that cater for both emotional and physical aspects of your pets. Pet Fashion also holds various products ranging from pet cloth, pet carry, pet bed, pet collar, pet lead, pet table, pet trolley etc. Pet Fashion promotes that the way we treat our pets should be more of like how we would treat ourselves. Like who would ever have thought that you could dye your pet’s fur coat when it dulls out? Pet Esthe features their latest innovation in pet care by providing to pets what we use on our hair these days. If one ever wondered if colouring your pets fur coat is ever an option just like how we colour our own hair at home besides bringing them to a professional, well now you can! In Malaysia, coloured dyes for pets were not easily obtainable before Pet Fashion started distributing these dyes. They started making them available to the public with their pilot shops in back in May 2007 What they believe in is grooming should be done with products that take different approach to pamper your pets. Products like these range from nail polishes, hair dyes, shampoos, conditioners, aromatherapy, and skin specific products, all the things that even you would use on a regular basis to pamper and groom yourself. Pet Fashion also emphasizes that with their products, owners can emulate the benefits of bringing their pets to local groomers right at home. This however is only applicable for sessions that are not too complicated. For the complicated methods of grooming and care, it is always best to bring them to a professional. This is because the products for home use are mean’t mainly for maintenance and after care. Pet Fashion highly stresses that eventhough these are premium products, they are not miracle items that guarantee results immediately. Like every other health related product, these things take time for results to actually show.

Soon, Pet Fashion will be featuring packaged products available only at their selected shops which can be bought over the counter, and be used at home. But this goes only with a in depth explanation and consultation session with the groomer there. The market in Malaysia is still a growing one and has yet to experience what other countries are already offering in the pet grooming industry and they hope to help change people’s perception on their pets and pet care. No more is it just about feeding and keeping them clean. They are also part of the family and should be treated like any other in the modern day household. The full range of Pet Fashion products is now available at various pet shops located in the Klang Valley, Johor, Penang and also Ipoh. Currently, Pet Fashion is looking to widen their distribution to many more pet stores to make grooming much more readily available to anyone! Yuri Grooming & Training Academy:
A small history lesson of Better Groomed Pets!
If one thinks back roughly about 10 years ago, the idea or even the thought of grooming pets professionally was relatively next to nonexistent. Before the year 2000, pet grooming was relatively unheard of in Malaysia. Pets were just bathed, or brushed regularly which very much contrasts the more exorbitant methods of today that conduct pet pampering with spas, manicures and styling; much like the saloons which we humans patron. For the uninformed, Yuri Grooming & Training Academy is the first ever pet grooming academy to sprout in Boleh-Land. This was the changing move that shifted a new era in the Malaysian pet industry. Yuri first began her journey in the pet grooming industry by studying in Japan Grooming Technical College. This was all the way back in 1994 when she first learnt Japan’s strict curriculums regarding pet handling, grooming procedures and ethics. Penning and drawing everything down, this formed the basis for her teaching materials that she uses now for her academy. She started her trade back in Malaysia by doing house calls; running from house to house, grooming pets for people whom call her personally. As word of mouth spread, more people started to accept the idea that they can do more for their pets other than the normal brushing and bathing. Yuri opened her first saloon ‘Wow-Wow@Meow-Meow’ in 1999 with only 3 people (including herself ), and consecutively opened her grooming & training academy in 2002. Soon after year 2003, more and more pet grooming saloons started opening all over Malaysia. Yuri is also the first person to bring in professional equipment and items specifically for grooming from Japan. She is also the first person to commercially use fur colouring dyes in Malaysia that she brought in from Japan - which a lot of people found bizarre at first but the trend soon caught on. Now with the inclusion of more grooming specific products, the industry’s standards have changed. According to Yuri, grooming takes time, effort, and above all - passion. Without passion, one can not succeed in this industry as a good groomer will always boil down to how they treat and approach their customers; and I do not mean the customers with 2 legs and a dressing sense, I’m talking about their 4-legged, ever-hungry and curious customers - the pets. Timing in the pet grooming profession is also very important as pets are not known to be the patient type, and neither are their busy owners. For those interested, 1 course in Yuri Grooming & Training Academy takes about 6 months to complete which includes 4 full days of classes per week. After the 6 months of intensive learning and training, a certficate from Yuri Grooming & Training Academy which is also the first ever certificate in grooming to be endorsed by the Malaysian Kennel Association (MKA).
illustrations for students to follow... reminds me of college days..
During the course, students learn the tips and tricks of the pet grooming trade through theoretical and practical training. Practical training is done on dogs provided by pet shops and breeders that Yuri has tie-ins with. Students will learn how to handle the myriad of breeds with different approaches from the ultra-small toys like Poodles and Chihuahuas, to the bigger breeds like Chow Chows and Alsatians. One of the more interesting things is that at Yuri Grooming & Training Academy, students don’t just learn how to groom, but they also learn how to set up, manage and run a grooming centre. By learning this it equips one with all the neccesary knowledge to run the show themselves. Yuri believes that the best way to teach someone is to show them by doing it herself. Learning by example is the fastest way to transfer knowledge to students but it also takes the students initiative in order to better themselves. She said that at first students whom take about a day to groom a dog while they are learning will later on only take about an hour after their training at her academy. Practice is essential for a budding pet groomer as it teaches them how to approach pets differently in different situations which will differ day after day. Yuri emphasizes that even-though learning and gaining the necessary skills from an academy solidifies the basis of every groomer, it is only after 1 - 2 years of experience working in the field will they become much better at their craft. Pet Lovers Centre Sunway Pyramid:
The first of many more Pet Lovers Centres to come!
Pet Lovers Centre’s first ever branch is now located in Sunway Pyramid’s old wing, near the GIANT hypermarket. Not to be confused with The Pet Safari in IKANO Mutiara Damansara, this outlet is a direct copy of the other outlets situated in the land of Singapore. It is not a collection of outlets like The Pet Safari but is rather a single shop housing almost all the things you can find in The Pet Safari. Keeping close to the look and feel of The Pet Safari, PLC in Sunway Pyramid carries a myriad of products ranging from foods, clothing, accessories and caging to cater to the needs of pet lovers (and their pets) within the Sunway / Subang Jaya district. This outlet does house livestock of dogs and cats but focuses on reptiles, small animals like those cute critters called hamsters, and fish of the saltwater kind and freshwater variety. Renovation at the back of the shop is in progress currently to make way for a full range of aquarium and fish products. This outlet is also the first of many more PLC outlets to sprout up all over West Malaysia in the coming future. Pet Lovers Centre, Sunway Pyramid is open from 10am to 10pm (shopping mall hours) and is operational throughout the entire week.

Tank Residents
Garra Rufa Encounter: 50,000 vacuum-like fish all over your body!
Recently, we the Petshop Boys were invited to Sampouton Spa for a once in a lifetime trial run in their spa pool. The very first thought that came into my head was, “I don’t think I’m liking the idea of getting cleaned by 500,000 little fish that possess vampiric-like tendencies”. In the end we made our way there anyway. It is after all something very new to us and it would be a great experience and story to cover. Upon reaching there, we were greeted to a nice reception which did very much feel like your ever-typical-styled spa of this modern age, decked out with natural flora and nature-themed furniture. Two small tanks on the front counter caught my attention and I discovered they were differentiation tanks to tell customers what is the big difference between the Garra Rufa fish (the same little guys that await us in the spa pool), and the Chin Chins, which do show the same cleaning tendencies as the Garra Rufa, but are far more inferior. Curious of what is the big deal with these small fish, I stuck my hand into the tank containing the Chin Chins first. Lets just say the feeling of getting nibbled by them Chin Chins would be close to me giving you a tender scratch on your skin with my 2 week-old uncut nails. Not very nice. Dumping my hand into the other tank containing the Garra Rufas, the experience was way different. They nibble and suck like vacuums but exude no scratchy feeling. Alright, this reinforces my trust that I won’t be having an unpleasant experience in the pool later on. As soon as we were led to the pool, it was really interesting to see that the fish can ‘sense’ our presence and will swim in accordance to wear we stand. Scary that they hunger so much for human waste! I lves.... asked how many of these little fish were in the tank at one go and enjoying ourse we seem to be there were roughly about 50,000 fish all ready to eat on you. After The Differences! a quick change and shower we were ready to be ‘cleaned’. The initial dip with my feet attracted at least 75% of the tank’s residents and I tell you it was really ticklish to begin with. After 5 minutes of laughing and lots of squirming around, we finally got used to the fishes swarming around us. Yes, it was really relaxing after getting used to the ever-present nibbling feeling. They clean almost everywhere, even small wounds that have yet to heal properly. To my surprise, the wound heals faster after being cleaned by them. People with allergies and skin problems will highly benefit from their healing abilities. This something I would recommend anyone to at least try once in their lifetime. The treatment lasts about 1 hour in the pool and then its off to the warm showers to finish it off. The best thing of all about this is there was no fishy smell at all eventhough the fishes were our doctors!
Garra Rufa
VS
Chin Chin
1. Garra Rufas secrete enzymes called dithranol as they clean your skin. Only with this enzyme, the cleaning processs would only be beneficial to skin problems. Chin Chins however do not secrete dithranol, keeping their cleaning benefits next to nothing. 2. Another way to differentiate Garra Rufas from Chin Chins is that Garra Rufas are bottom feeders with their mouth positioned at the bottom. Garra Rufas are also much more slender in shape and resemble the shape alike catfish and mud suckers. Chin Chins on the other hand look are slightly bigger and have much taller dorsel fins. 3. Chin Chins will also grow teeth as they get older. This is makes them not suitable for spa purposes when compared to the Garra Rufa. Their teeth is the main culprit to why your skin will itchier after a treatment by the Chin Chin fish.
Neutering / Spaying your meow
ChitChat Cat
The first step to preventing your cat from reproducing potential unwanted pets and keeping the cat population in check! Male cats must be neutered when they reach the age of at least 5 months old. This is because male cats start to become sexually activite at this age and will be a cat on the table awaiting surgery on heat during the season.ation Neutering your cat will prevent the chance of it reproducing homeless kittens and it will also help your cat live a longer and much healthier life. More often than not many people are confused over the terms ‘spaying’ and ‘neutering’ (or castration in other cases). The simplest way to properly use those two terms is that ‘spaying’ is referred to the removal of the ovaries from a female cat, wheres ‘neutering/ castration’ is the termed used for the removal of the testicles in male cats. Both male and female cats can undergo surgery to spay or neuter them by 5 months of age. The surgery permanently removes the sex organs, rendering them unable to reproduce. There are many health benefits that your cat would enjoy after the surgery. On the contrary to popular belief, your cat will NOT gain weight after neutering/spaying. If it does, it is because your cat is not exercising enough and is eating way too much. Your cat will also never be ‘in heat’ anymore, keeping them from running away to find suitable mates. Many owners have experienced their male cats dissapearing from home, never to return again mainly because it may have met in an accident, got lost, or picked up by someone else. Spaying / Neutering will provides you the assurance that your cat will not and never breed unwanted litters, thus preventing more and more additions to strays on our lonely and dangerous streets. Animal welfare societies face the daunting challenge of dealing and safeguarding unwanted cats and other unloved animals. It is only up to us to be responsible and do the right thing in helping to control the population of strays. These days there are countless stray cats and kittens fighting for their right to live in alleys and on the streets. As you read this, many pets may face euthanization (the act of ending one’s life with consent) when the animal shelter is unable to re-home them. If you insist that your cat is to experience the joys of reproducing and taking care of their very own litter do obtain advice from your local vet on birth control options and ensure that if your cat were to ever breed, there are places that the kittens can go. Every 4 seconds, an animal is killed by euthanasia because no one wants him or her. Spaying and neutering is one of the many ways to ensure that your pet lives a long and happy life together. The number of strays will decrease and most importantly, it will save lives that have not yet even begun to live. So do the responsible thing and do your bit to prevent anymore homeless kittens from suffering!
