Hella KGaA Hueck & Co. PRESS RELEASE Innovation Award for Hella's LED Street Lighting Poland's economics vice-minister, Kossak, honors Hella's Eco StreetLine as the most innovative product at the Warsaw Lightfair Warsaw, March 2010. The light and electronics specialist Hella has been awarded even two first prizes on the Lightfair in Warsaw. The Lippstadt lamps could score in the categories of ―Best Product on the Fair‖ and ―Most Innovative Product for the Polish Market‖. The latter prize was accepted by Hella representatives on March 4, 2010 from the hands of Poland's economic vice-minister, Ewa Kossak. Hella is represented on the Polish Lightfair for the first time this year. The highlight of Hella's presentation is the Eco StreetLine Square—an innovative solution for efficient city and street lighting on the basis of state-of-the-art LED technology. Hella's lighting fixtures consist of four modules enabling different light distributions as needed. For example, it allows implementing an all-around parking lot lighting or the lighting image of a bending sidewalk. Additional advantages of the bulb are obvious: with its high energy efficiency and low maintenance cost, it is a powerful alternative to the mushroom bulb electric guzzler. In addition, the life cycle of 12 years for the LED modules puts them far ahead of the average of traditional street lights. Moreover, Hella guarantees the availability of spare parts for more than three decades—just as for their automotive core business. Oliver Heyne, Hella's sales expert for LED street lighting, offers the prospect of further developments: ―This project is just at the beginning. We are already working on new lamp types to fully address the needs of our customers. Primarily we are developing intelligent street lighting concepts featuring environmental lighting that adapts to the specific needs and situations even further.‖ Hella will thus present an enhanced lighting portfolio already in April on the international Light + Building lightfair in Frankfurt, Germany: suitcase lamps for higher light points (up to 10 meters) as well as bicycle path lighting. In developing innovating street lighting, Hella draws on more than 15 years of experience and expertise in LED technology and automotive engineering. For example, Hella helped putting pioneering full LED headlight projects on the road in the Cadillac Escalade Platinum and in the new Audi A8. ―There are a variety of synergies between headlights and street lights,‖ Heyne explains, ―therefore we made the strategic decision in the middle of 2008 to enter the street lighting market because it is signaling a significant change towards LED technology.‖ PR 08/2010 – Page 1 of 2 Hella KGaA Hueck & Co.
