10 Top Tips
1) Share and display user friendly learning Objectives. For example, “We are
learning to……”
2) Provide pupils with opportunities to reflect on their learning in relation to the
learning objectives. For example, “What went well?” “Even better if…”
3) Show students what success looks like. Explain what makes this work
successful.
4) Provide pupils with thinking time when asking questions.
5) Get everyone involved in discussion by using “Show me boards”, “Thumbs
up/down”, “Traffic Lighting”…….
6) Tap into your pupils prior knowledge and attainment by finding out what they
know already.
For example, K,W, L Chart. (What do I Know? What do I Want to know?
What I have Learnt?)
7) Approach Oral Feedback in the same way you would written feedback e.g.
identify strengths and next steps for learning.
8) Provide opportunities for pupils to identify strengths and areas for
improvement in each others work.
9) Use “wrong” answers as useful opportunities to highlight misconceptions.
10) Share anticipated learning outcomes with pupils e.g. “By the end of the lesson
all pupils will be able……some pupils will be able to….”
