Planning Services supports the development of major University plans and provides key
information about the University. The successful applicant for this position will use their IT
skills to assist in providing statistical information and preparing reports to facilitate planning
and performance monitoring, decision-making and policy formulation within the University
and to assist in preparing data to meet statutory reporting requirements. Applicants with
substantial skills in C# and the .NET framework will be favourably regarded. The position is
full-time but a part-time appointment may be negotiated.

ROLE STATEMENT
As the appointee, you will, under limited direction of the Manager, Statistical Services, provide
statistical information and reports to facilitate planning and performance monitoring, decision-making
and policy formulation within the University and to assist the University in meeting its reporting
requirements, including ad hoc requests for information.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain and develop the University’s Executive Information System.

Undertake analyses and draft performance indicator reports required under the University’s Cycle of
Planning and Accountability and in response to ad hoc information requests.

Assist in the University’s student load planning through undertaking detailed student load projections, ,
contributing to the formulation and implementation of the University’s annual Admission and Quota
Policy and providing associated figures used in the University Budget, and providing actual, and
preparing projected student load figures required for submissions to and in discussions with the
Commonwealth government.

Assist with statistical data collections, including preparing data for the Commonwealth government’s
Higher Education Statistics Collections.

Contribute to the development of technologies to better disseminate statistical information and
performance indicators to the university community.

Update Planning Services web pages used to disseminate statistical and administrative information
and to collect data.

Other duties as directed.

SPECIFIC WORK CAPABILITIES (SELECTION CRITERIA): (Minimum requirements to perform
the duties of the position, e.g. Certificate of Secondary Education).
    Tertiary qualification in computing or mathematics or another quantitative discipline (such as
    business or psychology).

    Demonstrated skills in analysis and problem solving.

    Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

    Well developed organisational skills with an ability to set priorities and meet strict deadlines.

    Commitment to accuracy and attention to detail in the handling of data and the preparation of
    reports.

    Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases,
    internet and email particularly in Excel and statistical software, such as SAS.

    Proven ability to work independently, show initiative and work productively as part of a team.

    Familiarity with relational databases and SQL.

    Knowledge of the administrative procedures of tertiary institutions or similar organisations.

    Knowledge of higher education statistical collections and performance indicators or similar.

    Knowledge and skills in developing performance indicators, especially higher education
    performance indicators.
