The programme brings together about 300 youths from ASEAN countries and Japan, providing them with the unique opportunity to interact on board the SSEAYP ship and at different ports-of-call for 53 days. SSEAYP started in January 1974 based on Joint Statements issued between Japan and the five ASEAN countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Brunei Darussalam joined in 1985. Vietnam participated in the programme in 1996 while Laos and Myanmar participated in 1998. Cambodia joined the programme in 2000. The aim of SSEAYP is to foster friendship and greater understanding among youths from Japan and ASEAN. It also seeks to broaden their international outlook. A series of activities are lined up for the selected participants. The programme during voyages includes discussions on social and youth matters, cultural introductions, sports, recreation and club activities. Activities at each port-of-call include interaction with the local youths, courtesy calls on dignitaries and institutional visits, as well as community service and homestay experience. The 36th SSEAYP is held from 27 October to 18 December 2009. During this period, the participants will visit Japan and five of the ten ASEAN countries namely Philippines (Manila), Malaysia (Port Klang), Singapore, Thailand (Bangkok) and Brunei Darussalam (Muara). Singapore is sending a contingent of 27 youths and a National Leader to participate in this year’s programme. In Singapore, SSEAYP is co-ordinated by the National Youth Council (NYC) - the national co-ordinating body for youth and youth sector development in Singapore, together with the SSEAYP International Singapore (SIS), the Alumni body of ex-SSEAYP Singapore participants. _____________________________ 6 36th SHIP FOR SOUTHEAST ASIAN YOUTH PROGRAMME 2009 PROGRAMME OVERVIEW Day Morning Afternoon Night Day 1 Tues Arrival of Fuji Maru Heritage Trail Press Conference Welcome Dinner Reception and Viewing 24 Nov ‘09 (In groups - Kampong Onboard Fuji Maru of Performances Glam, Chinatown, Little India, Civic (5.00 pm – 6.00 pm) (7.00 pm – 9.45 pm) District) (2.00 pm – 3.30 pm) Day 2 Briefing on Community Service Community Service Home-stay Matching Ceremony Wed (2.00 pm – 6.00 pm) (7.00 pm – 8.00 pm) 25 Nov ‘09 Day 3 Thurs Home-stay for PYs 26 Nov ‘09 Day 4 Homestay for PYs Send-off Ceremony Fri Fuji Maru departs 27 Nov ‘09 for Thailand 7 Annex B MEDIA COVERAGE FOR SHIP FOR SOUTHEAST ASIA YOUTH PROGRAMME 24 TO 27 NOVEMBER 2009 MEDIA REGISTRATION FORM Please fax completed form by Monday, 23 November 2009, 5.00 pm to: Corporate Communications Section, National Youth Council Attn : Ms Norhana Hamdan DID : 6839 9122 Fax : 6737 2025 Email : Norhana_Hamdan@pa.gov.sg Media Organisation : ___________________________________________________________________________________ Tel : __________________________ Fax : _____________________________ Event Name, Designation, Contact Details of Representative(s) and (date, time, venue, coverage) MICA Pass / NRIC No. (a) Press Conference Onboard Fuji Maru Name : Tuesday, 24 November 2009, 4.30 pm Designation : Fuji Maru (NB: All media to register for media pass at VivoCity Mobile / Tel : Promenade, near Brotzeit German Bar and Restaurant, #01-149) Email : MICA Pass No. / IC : 8 Event Name, Designation, Contact Details of Representative(s) and (date, time, venue, coverage) MICA Pass / NRIC No. (b) Welcome Dinner Reception Name : Tuesday, 24 November 2009, 7.00 pm, Designation : Sapphire Pavilion, Siloso Beach (Sentosa) (NB: All media to register near the Sentosa Express Train Mobile / Tel : Ticketing Counters located at Level 3, Lobby L, Vivo City for complimentary entry into Sentosa) Email : *Please refer to attached map for exact location of Sapphire MICA Pass No. / IC : Pavilion.
