							         PROFILE BOOKS SALES AND MARKETING DIRECTOR
                       JOB DESCRIPTION

Sales and marketing is at the heart of publishing and plays a part in every decision about
every book from acquisition until it finally goes out to print. The postholder of this job
will have a pivotal role at the core of Profile’s activities and will be decisive in shaping
our future.

      Following a probationary period this is a board level appointment (there are
       currently four executive and six non-executive directors).

      The postholder therefore participates in shaping the strategy, publishing ambitions
       and budgets for the company.

      While Profile is collegiate and responsibility is shared, the sales and marketing
       director directs all the company’s sales, marketing and publicity activities
       internationally.

      The sales and marketing department comprises eight people, currently working in
       three areas. The sales and marketing director leads this team, setting budgets,
       targets and objectives, helping, advising, managing and setting priorities.

Sales
     The company currently has a Sales Director UK and Ireland, a Sales
      Administration Manager who reports to her, and an International Sales Manager.

      They manage all the accounts and agents in their territories, selling to our
       customers, negotiating terms, marketing spend and returns. The UK sales director
       works very closely with Faber & Faber who sell to some key accounts and
       provide our field sales operation.

Marketing
     The company currently has a Marketing Manager who reports to the Sales and
      Marketing Director. All the marketing materials (digital and physical) are
      conceived, formulated and created to agreed budgets.
Publicity
       We have always been very effective at generating publicity, partly because of the
        sorts of books we publish, partly because we attach great importance to it, and
        partly because we are good at it.

      We have an outstanding publicity team of four, led by the Publicity Director, who
       reports to the Sales and Marketing Director.

Digital marketing
       We expect the new Sales and Marketing Director to play a pivotal role in shaping
        a digital presence and particularly our online sales and marketing. We have
        appointed a digital publishing manager (reporting to the commercial director) who
        will be closely involved in this.
