  The purpose of this assessment is to measure your mastery of Learning Target
  3-8: The student can explain how oceans impact quality of life, globally and
  within the community.



  Your Task: Oceanographers study the ocean as their job, but what do they
  really do? Go to the EarthComm website or find the link from my website at
  http://teacher.ocps.net/jacqueline.bonner to do some research. Then, you will
  choose one area of oceanography or one specific job an oceanographer can do
  to explain. You will write a one-page description describing what
  oceanographers in that area of research do and why it is important for our
  community. You need to use the vocabulary from this chapter in your
  descriptions. (For example, if you choose to talk about Physical
  oceanographers, you would want to mention that they study salinity of the
  oceans and the effects of wind stress on surface currents.) Remember to use
  these websites as RESEARCH. Do not plagiarize (copy/paste) from any
  website. This is considered cheating and will result in a zero for the assignment.

     What kind of equipment do they use?
