Exercise 1 – Working with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007
This walkthrough does not cover those features available in Microsoft Office
SharePoint Server 2007 covered in other lab exercises. Please see the
separate labs for these feature groups.
Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 contains an improved out of the box Login using the following credentials:

Click on Create Site from the Site Actions menu to open the site creation form
Create a new site using the following values, and defaults for the rest:
a. Title: WSS Test Site
b. URL: wsstest
Click Create to create the site
You have now created a new WSS site in the Sites Directory.

in Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

Click on Litware Inc. in the top navigation to return to the portal homepage
The portal homepage also supports the same flexibility in editing the options
and items that appear in the top and left navigation, and the breadcrumbs. For

Hover over Sites in the top navigation bar and notice the dropdown navigation
for the new site created earlier.
Use the Site Actions drop down menu and notice the flyout menu options for
the View Reports and Site Settings menu options

Out of the box tools for common tasks Click on the drop down arrow for “I need to…” and view the available options.
“I need to…” These are common tasks for intranet portals.
Employee Lookup
From the drop down choose Setup MySite and click on the green arrow icon to
continue
You will be taken to a screen where your My Site is created

At the end of the creation click Yes (If prompted)
Click the browser Home button to return to the portal homepage
Type Brian in the Employee Lookup text box and click on the magnifying glass
icon to execute the search.
Notice the Search query goes to the People tab in Search Center and includes
Brian Cox as the top result. This is a feature of the new Search Center and is
covered in more detail in a separate lab.
Out of the box Web Parts for common information Click on Litware Inc. in the top navigation to return to the portal homepage

Top Sites
Calendar
Notice the large content area in the center of the page, this is the “Highlight”
section. Out of the box this contains information for new users.
Notice the News section directly below the highlight. This is populated based
on articles in the News area. The News area is now a publishing site with the
features previously included in Microsoft Content Management Server 2002.
For more information, see the separate Content Management lab.
Notice the Top Sites section. This is a list of sites from the Sites Directory
which can be filtered based on rules set in the Web Part

with better scale, depth, and usability. Click Start then Log Off from luisb

In the Add Audience Rule page, use the following values and click OK

NOTE: In this step or any of the Audience steps if you receive an error
message stating “This page is accessible only from an SSP admin site.” You
may use the Favorites links and select Manage Audiences to navigate back to
the Manage Audiences page.
Click on Manage Audiences from the site breadcrumb

Click Start then Log Off from administrator
Login using the following credentials:

Click on WSS Test Site in the dropdown under Sites in the top navigation bar
Click on Site Actions in the upper right corner of the page and choose Edit
Page. This put the page in design mode.

Click on the down arrow on the right side of the Announcements Web Part
header and choose Modify Shared Web Part
The Web Part Properties pane appears. Expand the Advanced section
Scroll to the bottom click on the Browse button in the Target Audiences
section
The Select Audience popup appears. Expand the dropdown to see the
targeting options and choose Global Audiences

In Office 2003, when users checked out files from a client, the checkout Open Microsoft Office Word 2007 from the Start menu
occurred on the server. In Microsoft Office 2007, the default behavior is for Add some text
the checkout to occur and create a local copy so that a user can edit the file Click the Save button in the Word menu bar
offline. The user then checks in the file to the server from the local copy.
New functionality also allows users to perform check-ins with Windows
SharePoint Services 3.0.
The first time a user checks out a file from the client, a prompt tells

them that the file will be checked out locally
The prompt also provides a link to the folder where the file will be Choose My Site and double-click on Shared Documents to set the location for
checked out to, with the option to change the location the Save As dialog
The prompt also allows the user to check out the file on the server, in
which case the checkout behavior is the same as in Office 2003,
except for changes in some dialog boxes
Give the file a name and click the Save button
Choose the Office Logo menu, then Server, then Check Out

Notice the dialog box informing you that the file will be checked out locally, and
allowing you to change the location and checkout options. Click OK

Close Word 2007 and choose Yes when prompted to check the file back in.
Note the versioning comments that you can add.
Choose OK to the confirmation dialog box.
Return to the browser and refresh the page.

Notice the new document appears in the Documents section of the SharePoint
Sites Web Part.
