Do you love winter? Or, more import

d you are looking for a great new a

r snowboarding.

For many people, the idea of snowbo
arding sounds dangerous, like it wa
s only for crazy teenage boys. The
idea of skiing down a large hill or
mountain sounds scary enough and t
he idea of doing it with a snowboar
d sounds too hard to be tried. If t
hese are your thoughts, you should
think again. Whether you have been
skiing for years or if you have nev
er made it down a winter mountain,
snowboarding can be a great way to
spend winter days.

If you have been a skier and are th
inking of branching out into the wo
rld of snowboarding, congratulation
s. The best advice I can give you i
s to be patient. Because snowboardi
ng is similar to skiing and yet ver
y different, some people who ski we
ll will find that snowboarding come
s naturally and quickly while other
s will find the learning process gr
ueling and frustrating. Stick with
it because eventually the tricks of
snowboarding can come to almost an
yone.

If you have never been a skier, hav
e no fear. Having a skiing backgrou
nd is not always necessary or even
beneficial in learning snowboarding
skills. You, a non-ski expert, may
actually pick up the techniques of
 snowboarding much easier than your
skier friends. After some time you
may find that snowboarding fits yo
u like a glove.

Allow me to offer a couple of words
of advice to anyone, ski expert or
not, that desires to enter the wor
ld of snowboarding. First, do not e
xpect to jump on a board and pick u
p the skill all on your own. Most p
eople will benefit greatly from tak
ing snowboarding lessons at least t
o learn the basics of the sport. So
do not hesitate to sign yourself u
p for a lesson or two before you he
ad out to the slopes.

A second and perhaps more important
piece of advice is simple: rent. R
esist that temptation to run out an
d buy the latest board and snowboar
ding gear just to look like a seaso
ned pro on the slopes. On your firs
t few times out you should rent equ
ipment and take the time to learn w
hat kinds of boards best meet your
needs. By renting you can avoid mak
ing a costly mistake that will leav
e you frustrated later.

So, whether you have been skiing fo
r years or not, when winter comes a
round again make the choice to lear
n a new skill. Who knows, snowboard
ing could fast become your favorite
 source of winter fun.
