Advice & Guidance
Our Advice & Guidance scheme is for clients on some form of health related benefit, predominately for those who are job ready and need just those last elements of support into employment. Up until now we have worked on a one to one basis with our clients, for a period of seven weeks, offering any information and support identified as helpful in securing jobs. However, we consider that in addition to the ongoing one to one sessions, a more intense and specific support will ensure that clients are far better prepared and able to secure worthwhile and sustainable employment. To this end we are introducing modules of some two hours duration for small groups, concentrating on a number of subjects directly applicable to people’s needs. Our approach is to take an entirely fresh look at successful job searching. Our modules will include; Completing Application Forms Curriculum Vitae and covering letters Speculative Letters Job searching Interviews Career Advice Self Employment Tax Credits Debt Counselling We intend to offer group sessions on all of these subjects and others as they are required. Here are some of the modules we shall be delivering with a brief description of their contentCompleting Application Forms- Understanding what is required by the employer, the job and person specification and how to use the form in your favour Curriculum Vitae and covering letters- 88% of CVs are the same; same jargon and clichés, same layout, same everything. We shall examine how we can make them different and stand out from the rest, how to market skills, expertise, experience and knowledge to make certain of an interview. Never underestimate the value of the covering letter; it can be invaluable in supporting the CV Speculative Letters- This is one of the best ways of getting an interview, you select who to approach and maybe avoid the initial “scrum” of the other applicants Job searching- The right media, how and where to look, ways of researching companies and how to find out what a job ad means Interviews- Preparation, techniques to manipulate interviews to your advantage, questions and answers Career Advice- Look for the jobs where you can match your skills to the skills the employer wants Tax Credits- what they are and how they may impact employment Debt Counselling- The way to handle the destructive features of personal debt Self employment- The advantages and problems of working for yourself, what type of business and how to put together a Business Plan We shall offer group sessions on these subjects and others as they are required
