							 URGENT Unison announcement & advice
  to Paramedics & Technicians 7-7-2008
Unison refers you to the recent clinical bulletin sent out to all staff relating to
the changes to the Emergency care Assistants Role allowing them in some cases
                               to attend the patient.

Unison Leads where told about the new guidance at approx 1150am on Friday
4th July we were given a copy at 1200 at our Friday meeting bearing in mind
there where only three leads there and two ad's from the management side. We
were told that a section straight from the HPC had been put in about
                                    Paramedic's.

We did not agree with the document and wording
about Technician's and we are not in a position to agree this guidance and a lot
more discussion is needed before we send it out for staff to comment on. Once
again it has been sent out by management without our views being heard.

Technicians be aware if anything goes wrong whilst the ECA is attending you
could be responsible under the trusts disciplinary procedures.

Paramedics could also have to answer to the the trusts disciplinary procedures
as per usual aswell as the HPC.

The responsibility for the patient/s will remain with the
qualified Paramedic/Technician and the ECA will work under their “guidance”
                                not supervision

UNISONS ADVICE TO ALL MEMBERS IS TO STAY
WITH THE PATIENT UNTIL FURTHER TALKS HAVE
                  BEEN HELD.
