Advice to Freshmen from Seniors "If you ask a majority of the high achieving seniors what their biggest high school regret is, most will say that they didn't try hard enough as a freshman." Ryan, SJHS class of 2008 "You should be asking more questions about college and scholarships. Talk to the seniors and your counselors and your parents." Guy, SJHS class of 2008 "Your freshman year is what sets your GPA—it is hard to raise it a lot after that. It's not a good feeling when you really want to go to a college you cannot get into because your grades aren't good enough." Megan, SJHS class of 2008 "Come to school every day, try new things, make new friends—it's your time to figure yourself out and get the education that will get you where you want in life." Kelli, SJHS Class of 2008 "As a freshman, I freaked out about a lot of things—grades, boys, clothes, my frizzy hair. Most of it was not worth freaking out about. . .though grades are important. " Alex, SJHS class of 2008 "I wish I knew then what I know now. Work hard freshman year—harder than any of the other four because it sets the tone early on for study habits. Raising your GPA is very challenging if it starts out low." Dayton, SJHS class of 2008 "Before you know it, you'll be filing out applications. You may think it's only freshman year, but grades and study habit matter a lot!" Allie, SJHS class of 2008 "Admit that you don't know it all, that you don't have it all figured out. Then people will respect you and you will make the most out of high school." Ethan, SJHS class of 2008 "Find something you're passionate about. Passion will give you drive and motivation. Those two combined should lead you somewhere important." Kelsey, SJHS class of 2008 "Stay on track and do all your work. I’m serious." Ty, SJHS class of 2008 "Honestly, I am the last person that should be giving advice to a freshman. My grade point remains a 2.4. I've never really tried that hard in school, and I regret it. The best way I can contribute is to be an example. Trust me, it's a lot harder to get into college with my track record." Jared, SJHS class of 2008 "Don’t' get over-involved. People today try to cram as much as possible into their daily lives. Leave some time for recuperation. My best creative ideas are spawned during periods in my life when there is little stress." Eric, SJHS class of 2008 "Take pride in your work. Not just for a good grade but for yourself. Have an open mind and a desire to learn. Take advantage of being lucky enough to receive a good education." Sarah, SJHS class of 2008
