                    2009 USA SHOOTING JUNIOR OLYMPIC
                    NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP PROGRAM
                               RIFLE / PISTOL
The 16th annual USA Shooting National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships (NJOSC), are sponsored by USA
Shooting and hosted at the United States Olympic Training Center (USOTC).

DATES             April 3- 8                   Women’s Rifle
                  April 9- 15                  Men’s Rifle
                  April 16-19                  Men’s/ Women’s Air Pistol

LOCATION          U.S. Olympic Training Center, 1 Olympic Plaza, Colorado Springs, CO 80909

ELIGIBILITY       Competitor must be a US citizen, have received an invitation to participate and must be an
                  individual member of USA Shooting. To use Olympic Training Center housing the competitor
                  must be at least 12 years old.

ENTRIES           The individual fee will be $60.00 per event. This will be collected from each competitor at
                  registration. Payment may be made by cash, check, or travelers check (please make payable to
                  USA Shooting). Once payment has been made there will be no refunds. CREDIT CARDS WILL
                  NOT BE ACCEPTED.

                  Competitors must mail or fax the yellow entry form to be received at USA Shooting by March 1st,
                  2009 for first round invites/ March 14th for second round invites. You must state whether or not
                  you will use the Olympic Training Center housing at this time and give the dates you will be in
                  attendance. Any person who has not sent their entry form in to be received by the Competitions
                  Division by March 1st (March 14th for second round invites) will not be entered in the NJOSC and
                  will not be allowed to attend.

TRAVEL            All competitors must make their own arrangements for transportation to and from Colorado
PROCEDURES        Springs. Local transportation to and from the airport will be provided if we receive your travel
                  information by March 14th (not required for second round invites). If we do not have your travel
                  information by March 14th, you will need to make your own arrangements for transportation to the
                  Olympic Training Center and back to the airport.

                  If you are competing in only air rifle or only smallbore, check the specific daily schedule
                  included in this packet to determine whether you wish to arrive and/or depart on an alternate
                  date. You will not be allowed to check in or stay on site prior to the above arrival dates.

                  Competitors staying at the Training Center, arriving at the Colorado Springs airport should:
                  Proceed to the baggage claim area, get their baggage and go outside and look for the USOTC bus.
                  The bus will take you to the Olympic Training Center if you have provided your travel information
                  to USA Shooting prior to the deadline. Arrivals at the airport after 10:00 pm will not be offered
                  transportation.

                  Competitors arriving by car should have the USOTC security guard direct them to the Shooting
                  Center to store guns and equipment. All guns and ammo must be stored in the gun storage room at
                  the Shooting Center. Guns and ammo are not allowed in the dorms. If you arrive after the
                  Shooting Center is closed, you must request that Security let you in so you can store your guns and
                  ammo in the Gun Storage room. After storing your equipment, proceed to Athlete Registration to
                  get your housing assignment, meal card and complete your USOTC paperwork requirements for the
                  program.
INFORMATION        Orientation meetings for competitors and volunteers will be held for each discipline and are
MEETINGS           MANDATORY. Please check the individual discipline schedules for times and locations.


COURSE OF        The USA Shooting National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships will be conducted as
FIRE             follows:

                 Rifle –
                 Two courses of 60 shots prone, 40 shots standing and 40 shots kneeling for men (60/40/40)
                 Two courses of 60 shots, 3x20 for women
                 Two courses of 60 shots air rifle for men
                 Two courses of 40 shots air rifle for women

                 Pistol –
                 Two courses of 60 shots air pistol for men
                 Two courses of 40 shots air pistol for women
                 One course of 60 shots sport pistol for women
                 One course of 60 shots free pistol for men

                 All above events will include finals for the eight (6 in sport pistol) top scoring competitors after the
                 2nd course of fire (combining the 1st & 2nd courses) (free pistol for men and sport pistol finals for
                 women after 1st course). Air pistol and air rifle finals will be conducted using electronic targets.
                 Attendance is mandatory for all competitors at all finals.

DISTANCE         Smallbore Rifle – 50 meters                         Sport Pistol – 25 meters
                 Air Pistol – 10 meters                              Air Rifle – 10 meters
                 Free Pistol – 50 meters

EQUIPMENT        Check individual discipline schedules for dates and times for Equipment Check. All shooting
                 equipment must comply with current USA Shooting Rules.

SQUADDING        It is the competitor’s responsibility to check squadding and know when and where he/she is
                 scheduled to fire. Squadding will be posted at the ranges.

RULES            USA Shooting Rules will govern this championship. All competitors are responsible for
                 compliance with the USA Shooting Rules.

TARGETS          Approved targets will be used. The 50 meter rifle events for both men and women will use
                 electronic targets (if available) for the match and finals. 10 meter events, sport pistol and free
                 pistol will use paper targets for both match and finals.

SIGHTS           Metallic for rifle and open for pistol.

COACHING         Coaching is not permitted on the line.

CATEGORIES       Overall Junior, J2 and J3 categories will be recognized in the championship.

CLASSIFICATION
             No shooter classification system will be used.

SCORING          A challenge fee of $1.00 per target will be charged for each scoring challenge made on a
CHALLENGE        competitor’s own target. A challenge fee of $5.00 per target will be charged for each scoring
                 challenge made on a fellow competitor’s target. Only competitors may challenge. Competitors
                 may view targets at no charge.
PROTESTS          A fee of $25.00 must accompany any protest. Forms are available from the Match Director or in
                  the Competitions office.

OFFICIATING       Juries will be appointed and convened as required to resolve any protest. Decisions of the jury will
                  be final. The classification jury will resolve any scoring challenges.

PRACTICE          Please check individual discipline schedules for practice times.

RANGE
PROCEDURES        Rifle:
                  1. Firing will be done on single bull targets, one shot per record bull for air rifle.
                  2. Sighting shots are unlimited. Four sighter targets are provided for air rifle. All sighters must
                       be taken before any record shots are fired.
                  3. Automatic target carriers will be used for air rifle.
                  4. Firing for smallbore events will be on electronic targets. Competitors will change from
                       sighters to match targets.
                  5. For the smallbore events, each position (stage) must be finished by all competitors on a relay
                       before the next position (stage) is started, with the exception of women’s 3x20.
                  6. A preparation period will be provided each position. Shooting times, including sighters are:
                                      Men’s smallbore (time per stage)
                                                  Prone – 75 minutes
                                                  Standing – 75 minutes
                                                  Kneeling – 60 minutes
                                      Women’s smallbore                2 hours, 15 minutes block time

                                      Men’s air rifle                1 hour, 45 minutes
                                      Women’s air rifle              1 hour, 15 minutes

                  Pistol:
                  1. Firing will be done on single bull targets. 1 shot per record bull for air pistol. For sport pistol,
                       five shots per target. For free pistol, 5 shots per target, two targets will be hung at a time.
                  2. Sighting shots are unlimited with four sighter targets provided in air pistol. Target carriers
                       will be used for air pistol. For Sport Pistol, five sighting shots on one target are provided. All
                       sighters must be taken before any record shots are fired.

                                      Men’s air pistol               1 hour, 45 minutes
                                      Women’s air pistol             1 hour, 15 minutes
                                      Men’s free pistol              18 minutes for unlimited sighters (two targets),
                                                                     then 17 minutes per ten shots.

CHAMPIONSHIP All competitors should bring nicer clothes for award ceremonies. Attendance is mandatory at all

                          Third: Bronze Medallion

                  Women’s Smallbore Rifle:
                         Winner: Gold Medallion & Young Shooters Memorial trophy plaque & appointment to
                                 the National Development Team
                         Second: Silver Medallion, appointment to the National Development Team
                         Third: Bronze Medallion
                  Air Rifle and Air Pistol:
                            Men and Women:
                            Winner: Gold Medallion, Lone Star Trophy plaque & appointment to the National
                                     Development Team
                            Second: Silver Medallion, appointment to the National Development Team

                  All competitors will be considered for awards. Competitors may not win more than one award in
                  the championship events. Competitors born in 1992, 1993 and 1994 will be placed in the J2
                  category. Competitors born in 1995 or later will be placed in the J3 category. Awards will be
                  issued as follows in women’s smallbore rifle, men’s smallbore rifle, women’s sport pistol, men’s
                  free pistol, women’s air pistol, men’s air pistol, women’s air rifle and men’s air rifle.

                  Overall Champion – Gold Medal                    1st place J2 – Gold Medal
                  2nd place Overall – Silver Medal                 2nd place J2 – Silver Medal
                  3rd place Overall – Bronze Medal                 3rd place J2 – Bronze Medal

USOTC             A USOTC participant biography, a HIPPA and a medical history form are enclosed and are to be
WAIVERS           completed, signed by both competitor and parent (if applicable) and mailed in to USA Shooting, 1
                  Olympic Plaza Colorado Springs, CO 80909. These forms must be received by March 1st,
                  2009 for first round invites, due March 14th for 2nd round invites.

MEALS             Meals will be provided by the USOC at $30 per day for competitors. The dining facility will be
                  open to athletes only, no parents or coaches, from 7:00am to 8:30pm to serve appropriate meals.
                  On-complex athletes have meals included in their stay.

EXPENSE           All shooters will need expense money to cover entry fees and any personal or unforeseen expenses.
MONEY             There is a USOTC gift shop that has everything from sweatshirts to keychains available.

VOLUNTEERS        We will need a few volunteers for classification office and range operation. Parents and/or coaches
                  interested in volunteering should submit a volunteer application to the Competitions Division at
                  USA Shooting. Meal cards will be provided for official volunteers. You must be notified that you
                  have been chosen as an official volunteer. You can find a Volunteer Application on our website at
                  www.usashooting.com. Click on Competitions Division, then Volunteers/Officials.

USA SHOOTING All competitors (and volunteers) who attend must provide USA Shooting a Zero Tolerance form, a
FORMS        Junior Olympic Code of Conduct form and a Participant Consent/Liability form signed by
             themselves and their parents; competitors (and volunteers) 18 years of age or older may legally
             sign all forms except the Zero Tolerance form.

SCHOOL           If a letter is necessary for the competitor’s excused absence from school, one is available upon
RELEASE          request. All requests should be made to Nicole Levine, Competitions Assistant, at
                 nicole.levine@usashooting.org.

WEATHER          The temperature in Colorado Springs in April can be from 30-70 degrees. Be prepared for cold
                 evenings and possible winter weather conditions.

WHAT TO          Casual clothing will be suitable for most activities. You should bring nicer clothes for all award
BRING            ceremonies. Attendance is mandatory for all competitors at all award ceremonies, finals and
                 clinics. Bring an alarm clock to get up on time in the morning. Sheets and towels are provided by
                 the USOC. You may want to bring shower shoes for the communal bathrooms.

                 U.S. Olympic Training Center recreational facilities will be available for competitors and
                 volunteers use during scheduled open times. (Weight room and gym.) Bring appropriate clothing
                 to use these facilities.
