Pavilion Update August 2009 Issue: - News - Outreach and Events - Connect and Contacts www.usapavilion2010.com Dear Friends of the USA National Pavilion: When the USA National Pavilion opens its doors on May 1 at the Shanghai 2010 World Expo, we will reflect on the many milestones achieved by the project in the summer of 2009. The Obama Administration has thrown its full support behind this public-private partnership in order to ensure that the USA has a robust presence at this history- making event and that U.S. businesses have a world-class stage on which to present their innovations and aspirations. On July 3, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton appointed Jose H. Villarreal as U.S. Commissioner General to the Expo. Just one week later, he signed the U.S. participation contract with the Expo. On July 17, we broke ground at the USA National Pavilion site in a ceremony presided over by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke and attended by senior U.S. officials and by a large, boisterous group of our committed sponsors. In addition, we continued to welcome more sponsors in recent weeks and added three new board members in August. Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to updating you on our progress in the months ahead. NEWS U.S. Commissioner General Jose H.
