UP AGAINST THE WALL; a colourful revolution!

INCREDIBLY BRIGHT PAINT PENS INSPIRE SO MUCH MORE THAN MERE ‘COLOURING IN’

Often my work with children and the wider community is centered around a large scale, inclusive artwork that
encourages maximum accessibility, engagement and fun.

A large black and white cartoon graphic made up of fantastic creatures woven together across a Canvas or
suitable surface forms the basis of the project. Children of all ages and abilities add their own inspired
contributions using brightly coloured paint pens.

The pens are amazing in themselves allowing any budding artist to step in and start boldly creating with results
that dry almost instantly. They are water-based, odourless and non-toxic as well as fade resistant.

The results are kaleidoscopic, the whole artwork framed by the original cartoon -
rather than informed by it.

As well as working with the children on this artwork stage, I would also like to include them from the grass roots
of the character/cartoon development by using cut out shapes that challenge the normal perceptions of body
parts.

The shapes can be used in a simple workshop where, with minimal guidence, they are selected and assem-
bled individually or in small groups to create original character designs, which can then be fed into the main
illustration/ mural.

In this way the children gain even more ownership of the artwork, learn illustration skills and experience a
collaborative art experience on a’ level playing field’.

Paint wall requires a suitable smooth surface to house the canvas or paper. It may also be on a permanent exterior wall with suitable surface and UV varnish.
