					          JOB DESCRIPTION FOR KITCHEN ASSISTANT ALEPH
Camp Gesher requires a senior kitchen assistant to work under the direction of the cook
and kitchen manager as part of the camp’s food services team. Although specific hours
are listed, this position requires great flexibility, and preparedness to work on demand,
in order to meet the needs of the camp curriculum. The senior kitchen assistant is
responsible for the following list of duties and responsibilities.
 Pre-camp
      assist with unpacking the kitchen utensils and supplies
      assist the junior kitchen assistant to thoroughly clean the kitchen and chadar ochel
       (dining hall)
      help set-up the kitchen and chadar ochel for the season
      participate in the food services orientation session(s)
      attend the required pre-camp training sessions

 During the Camp Season
   The primary responsibilities of the senior kitchen assistant revolve around assisting the cook
   with the preparation of meals and snacks. Generally, this includes:
      beginning 1 hour before breakfast and working until 2 hours after lunch to assist with the
       preparation of breakfast and lunch and clean-up of all areas of the kitchen and chadar
       ochel (followed by a 3-hour break);
      returning 1 hour before dinner and working until 2 hours after dinner to assist with the
       preparation of dinner and clean-up of all areas of the kitchen and chadar ochel;
      assisting the cook and kitchen manager in preparing meals and snacks for outings off
       the campgrounds and special events – this often requires additional work hours, and
       occurs frequently;
      with the cook, ensuring each day that all appliances and tools are clean, in good working
       order, and are safe to use;
      assisting with the unpacking and storage of food deliveries; and
      on a voluntary basis, when possible, participating in and assisting with camp activities
       and special events.

 Post-camp
      assist with packing up the kitchen utensils and supplies
      assist the junior kitchen assistant to thoroughly clean the kitchen and chadar ochel

 Exceptions
      Kitchen staff are not members of the general Tzevet. For example, they do not:
          sleep in camper cabins; or
          have the same approach to days and nights off.

 Qualifications
      although some experience in the food industry and knowledge of rules of Kashrut would
       be beneficial, they are not necessary for the position
      ability to work in a busy, high pressure, physical labor-intensive environment
      takes direction well
      works well as a team member
      flexible

Salary Range: $1,700 - $1,900

       breakfast and lunch and clean-up of all areas of the kitchen and chadar ochel (followed
       by a 3-hour break);
      returning 1 hour before dinner and working until 2 hours after dinner to assist with dinner
       and clean-up of all areas of the kitchen and chadar ochel;
      ensuring that all kitchen utensils and equipment are clean for the preparation of meals
       and snacks for outings off the campgrounds and special events – this often requires
