Commit Thy Way Unto the Lord
                 Psalm 37:3-7 II Samuel 22:31-33

Things we are to do
A. Trust
B. Delight
C. Commit
D. Rest/Wait

Things God will do
A. Dwell in the land and feed
B. Give us the desires of our heart
   C. He shall bring it to pass, and he shall bring our
righteousness as light, and judgment as noonday.
Whatever God asks of us, we can do, not because we have
confidence in the flesh, but because whatever God requires he
supplies. When He tells us to go, He has promised to go with us.
When He tells us to pray, the Holy Spirit comes along side of us and
helps us to pray, especially during those times when we do not know
how to pray. When we take care of what God requires and expects,
then He will do His part. In meeting His conditions, His promises and
provisions become active in our lives. Our part is to trust Him, to
delight in Him, to commit our way unto Him, and to rest and wait on
Him. He takes care of the rest.

I. There are some things we know to do already
A. We know we should pray….pray without ceasing
We should pray that the Lord of the Harvest will send forth laborers
to reap the harvest. Prayer should be our constant breath ever
depending on the Lord of glory.

B. We know we should worship the Lord, for the Lord seeks those
who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. Worship ascribes worth to
God. He is worthy indeed.

C. We know we should rejoice in the Lord. The joy of the Lord is our
strength.
D. We know we should labor in the Lord’s Harvest, although the
laborers are few.

E. We know we should trust the Lord, for He is faithful who has
called us

F. We know we should commit our way to the Lord.
It is not our way but His Way. Committing our way to the Lord means
the way is the Lord’s and not ours. Like the song of old, ―Let him
have His way with Thee.‖ It is God’s way we want. His way is sure.
His way is a path of righteousness. His way leads to success.

Psalm 118:30 ―As for God, His way is perfect: the word of the Lord
is
tried; He is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.‖
—–God’s way is perfect
—–Our way is flawed from the beginning, but not God’s way.
The wise believer wants God’s way. The Lord Jesus understood this
when He prayed, ―Not my will, but thine be done.‖

Jeremiah 6:16 ―Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see,
and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein,
and ye shall find rest for your souls….‖

The old paths are not good because they are simply old. They are
good because they are right. God’s righteousness does not change.
The old paths describe the character of their rightness. If the paths
are right, it is because right has existed for a long time. That’s what
makes them ―old.‖

Proverbs 10:29 ―The way of the Lord is strength to the upright: but
destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.‖
—–Our way is a weak way, an unchartered way.
—–But God’s way doesn’t make us weak and doubtful. His way
gives strength. It has already gone before us. He leads, we follow.
He goes on before us. It is a clear way, a known way, a perfect way.
He never asks us to go anywhere that He has not already been. To
follow Jesus is to understand He goes before you already. There is
no unknown way to Him.

Proverbs 14:12 ―There is a way which seemeth right unto a man,
but the end thereof are the ways of death.‖
—–Man’s way leads to death, but God’s way leads to life
—–There is a way that seems right to a man, but it is wrong
—–God’s way is never wrong. His way is always right.

Psalm 27:11 ―Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain
path…‖
—–We can learn God’s way. He reveals His way. He delights to
show us the way. It can be taught and it can be learned. One
moment we can be in ignorance, and the next moment we know His
way. Teach us Lord your way. Wisdom teaches us that God’s way is
perfect and right.

We can try to have our way, but when we persist, we find ruin and a
wasted life. Our way can be selfish and wrongly motivated.
God’s way is never selfish.

Psalm 139:23-24 “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try
me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in
me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

There is a wicked way and a right way. There is a selfish way and a
righteous way. There is man’s way and God’s way. God’s way leads
to truth and holiness and righteousness. Man’s way leads in the
other direction. Lies….sin…..wrong…..flesh

Abel went God’s way and offered a blood sacrifice
Cain went His way and offered a bloodless sacrifice
The way of Cain is the way of rebellion
The way of Abel is the righteous way because He obeyed
       God

King Saul went his way, and it got him into real trouble.
King David sought after God’s heart and God’s way. The Lord
prospered him.
It is good to pray at times, ―Lord, if there is a wrong
way in me, remove it, get rid of it, cleanse me, wash me white as
snow, purify me, sanctify me, help me to be in a right relationship
with you. Search me, and know my heart and thoughts. Help me to
see your way, and abhor my way. ―

II. God’s Way is Perfect and He can Make Our Way
Perfect As Well
II Samuel 22:31-33 ‖As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the
Lord is tried: He is a buckler to all them that trust in Him. For who is
God, save the Lord? And who is a rock, save our God? God is my
strength and power: and He maketh my way perfect.‖

A. God’s Way is Perfect
There are no mistakes in God’s way. There is no wrong direction in
God’s way. His way is without error. He doesn’t make a mistake. We
make mistake when we want our way. Our way is not perfect. That’s
why we should commit our way to the Lord!

B. God’s Way Goes With His Word– The Word of God is a
lamp unto our feet and light unto our path. The path of
righteousness never contradicts God’s Word.
The Word of the Lord is tried….it has been tested and proven worthy
to believe and follow. God never goes against His Word. He never
contradicts His Word. His Word is a lamp...that lights the way we
should go.

C. God is a buckler to all them who trust in Him.
meginnah (meg-in-naw) A shield, a protector, also used as a word
for the scaly hide of the crocodile.
The point here is that those who want God’s way, those who follow
and obey the Word, God will defend them. He will protect them. He
is a shield to all them that trust in Him.
Who is God, save the Lord?
Who is a rock, save our God?
D. God is our strength and power
Some men trust in horses and chariots but we will trust in the Lord.
We have so little strength and power. We are limited. When we are
at our best, we are so weak. Without Jesus Christ, we can do
nothing.
How unlike the Lord. He has strength, infinite strength, and He has
power, infinite power. Nothing is impossible with God. There are
many things impossible for me. I can’t create an ocean. I can’t make
a living thing. I can’t open up the Red Sea or slay 185,000 soldiers in
one evening’s work, but God can.

I can’t open blind eyes or make the lame to walk again, but I know a
God who can. I can’t save a soul or mend a broken heart, but I know
a God who can. I can’t build a church, but I know the God- man who
said, I will build my Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail
against it.

My God can do anything! He can make the foundations of
the earth shake, and drown the whole world with water in a universal
flood. He can protect eight souls and the pairs of animals from
judgment. He can lead a nation out of bondage. He can make a very
old man and a very old woman have a child. He can make walls fall
flat to the ground and even give soldiers additional time to fight the
battle. Let us proclaim, ―M y God can do anything,
anything.‖

—– He can breathe upon 120 disciples and make them fiery
ministers of the Lord

—– He can save 3000 in one day ( and more if they would have
called upon His name.)

—– He can heal a little boy’s fever and take it away.
—– He can take a woman who nearly died and revive her. She
walks when they said she wouldn’t, breathe easily when they said
she couldn’t.

——He can take a young man whose life was in shambles, in prison,
out of luck, but not out of God’s grace, and raise him, bring him back
to God, and give him a wife that would later live for the Lord with all
her heart.

——He can answer prayer, and cause eleven people in one night
make a profession of faith. Only God could do that.

My God can do anything.
The Lord God stands upright and has authority, all authority, and He
deserves praise and worship and adoration. He is our Rock and
our Shield, a refuge in the time of storm.

E. God makes my way perfect- How is this possible? How can we
have a perfect way? The answer is simple. When God’s way
becomes our way, our way becomes perfect, because God’s way is
perfect. Examine closely the earthly life of Jesus to see that the way
He lived was to glorify the Father. The Father’s will was paramount
in His life. The Father’s will was not prominent but preeminent in the
life of Jesus.

Our way is perfect as we follow God’s way. The Lord
desires to make His presence known to strengthen and encourage.
He gives peace and rest for the weary soul. He sustains when we
feel unsustainable. He upholds the upright.

The Lord Jesus showed us the Father.
He said, ―I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, no man cometh unto
the Father but by me!‖ JESUS IS THE WAY. He will make a way for
you. LET US FOLLOW HIM!
