ABOUT PENNY HOLYOAK
Who am I
I am Penny Holyoak, 53 years young and diagnosed with cancer, March 2009. I am extremely passionate
and determined to make a difference in our society and I have a group of dedicated supporters to assist
me to do this. The main issue I want to address is the alcohol and drug related violence in our cities and
towns, along with the racial prejudice and anger experienced by so many people today.

My ultimate goal is to inspire people to have the Courage To Change themselves and their lives through
embracing the capacity to love – oneself and others – to stop and forgive and reconnect with society on a
deeper level and to spread this love through their communities, just as I have had to learn how to do.

The Campaign
Penny Holyoak‟s “Pen‟s Courage to Change” campaign aims to encourage and support individuals to
realise the power they have to change their lives and ultimately the communities in which they live – when
they choose the positive over the negative, and respect over intolerance

The Mission
To harness our own individual courage and power, and to ride 21,000kms around Australia to raise
awareness of the violence and racial prejudice in this country and to raise funds for the Quest for Life
Foundation.

Pen’s Fundraiser and farewell evening – Friday 26th February from 8pm to 2am at the Bendigo
Hotel, 125 Johnston Street, Colingwood.

Pen will leave for her ride around Australia on Saturday 27th of February at noon from Harley
Heaven, A’Beckett Street, City.

FIRST AID COURSES

       SPECIAL MEMBERS‟ OFFER
In the „Victorian Road Safety and Transport Strategic Action Plan for Powered Two
Wheelers 2009-2010‟ launched by Minister Pallis in August, VicRoads was given the job to
“Work with First Aid Providers to include non-professional first aid management techniques
in training courses”.

Red Cross responded by designing a course most appropriate to motorcyclists. The course is
a trainer led class based of approx. 7 hours duration (1 Day) and results in the successful
attainment of a nationally recognized competency that is valid for 3 years. (The CPR
component is current for 1 year).

Red Cross has worked with Honda in the development of a 7 minute DVD which deals with
the complex issues of helmet removal. The DVD is shown as part of the course and would be
available for purchase for $10.00 inc GST on the day.

It is a comprehensive course at the very special Ulysses Club price of $95 inc GST. I have
run this by NatCom and this course DOES attract the rebate of half the cost of the course. I
have also been given permission by NatCom to pass on this information to the membership
on this forum.

If your branch can put together a group of 12 to 20 members, the ARC contact person for all
of Australia is Maria Muente. Maria will inform you of the nearest training centre to you
and answer your questions. Her phone contact is 02 9229 8949 or email:
mmuente@redcross.org.au

The impressive course outline sheet is too big to include here. If you would like to see it you
can email Maria or go to;
https://www.redcross.org.au/e/CourseDetails.aspx?CourseID=134218694&VenueId=83886141

I HAVE BEEN SENT A COPY OF THE „HELMET REMOVAL DVD‟ AND
UNDERSTAND NOW THAT WE COULD ALL BENEFIT FROM KNOWING MORE
ABOUT THIS TOPIC. I‟LL REVIEW IT ON THE NATIONAL FORUM.

                                                                                             4

I LOVE YOU TOO
In cinemas May 6, I Love You Too is a romantic comedy that isn‟t just about having the courage
to pursue the lady you love. A film written by Aussie comedian Peter Helliar, and from the
producers of Summer Heights High, I Love You Too was filmed in Melbourne, and stars Helliar,
Brendan Cowell, model-turned-actor Megan Gale, Yvonne Strahovski and US actor Peter
Dinklage.

We were approached last year to provide a couple of dozen extras for a „biker wedding‟ scene.
When you see the film, keep an eye out for some familiar faces, mainly from the Westgate
Wanderers Branch.

WILFRED – SECOND SERIES.
Last year the producers of Wilfred put out a call for „bikie‟ look-alikes as extras for an episode
of the Wilfred series. This is showing on SBS on Monday nights, put the kids to bed before you
watch it. The episode we were asked to assist with is a „cage fight‟ scene. So a bunch of us put
aside the DryRider gear and went to the filming venue with the „Marlon Jackets‟ and jeans.

Our episode has not been aired as yet. If you do watch the fight episode keep an eye out for the
odd familiar face. Laugh!

“MOTORCYCLE FRIENDLY ACCOMMODATION”
On Sunday last I was on the Ulysses Club stand at the Alexandra Motorcycle Show. A couple of
blokes were visiting the various stands to promote their businesses. Both were to do with
“motorcycle friendly accommodation”. I have to stress that we are not recommending these
places but passing on the information. If you have stayed there please give us some feedback.

ZAIDEE‟S SHOW AND SHINE MOTORBIKE MUSTER

Zaidee‟s Rainbow Foundation are hosting the Zaidee‟s Show and Shine Motorbike Muster as
part of their event schedule to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.

Zaidee‟s Show and Shine Motorbike Muster will be held at the Grand Pavilion, Melbourne
Showgrounds in April 11th 2010. We are seeking the support of the motorcycle community to
make this event amazing.

It would be great if the Melbourne Branch of Ulysses Club would attend this great event and
help promote it through the Ulysses website and other club activities. We are approaching and
encouraging all of the Victorian Ulysses Club Branches to attend this event so it will be the
perfect opportunity to catch up with friends from all over the state!

Zaidee‟s Rainbow Foundation is a charitable foundation dedicated to increasing the rate of
organ and tissue donation. We hope to greatly improve the donation rate year upon year,
allowing those that are currently on transplant waiting lists, a better chance in getting their
transplant by encouraging people to register as Organ and Tissue Donors.

Zaidee‟s Rainbow Foundation was the official charity of the 2008 MotoGP Phillip Island and
the official charity of the 2010 Word Superbikes Phillip Island.

I look forward to discussing this event with you in further detail, please contact me via the
details below if you have any questions or are willing to support this event in any way.

Kind Regards,

Tim McMillan
Marketing Executive
