Any current sophomore or junior interested in being a counseling aide next year needs to come by the Counselor’s Office and pick up an application. Even if you have pre- registered to be a counseling aide, you cannot be selected without an application. All applications are due by April 28. Project Celebration will be having a Skeet Shoot and Paintball fund raiser tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Weber's in Troy. Please see Ms. Wiley for more information. Cleaning out your closet? Donate your old clothes to Student-2-Student. You can drop off your donations to rooms B-02, A-04 or at the library. School wardrobe items only. Attention juniors who signed up to see the University of Texas representative: The admissions representative has had to cancel today’s visit. An announcement will be made when the visit has been rescheduled. Attention Temple College Dual-Credit Students: Registration packets are ready to be picked up in the Counseling Center. Please come by and see Mrs. Stephens if you would like to have a packet. Our TAKS incentive this year is an ice cream party and a movie. The grade level with the highest average passing percentage for all TAKS tests taken in that grade level will get to miss 6th, 7th and 8th period for an ice cream party in the commons followed by a movie in the PAC. To ensure you qualify for spring exemptions, keep in mind the following percentages that must be met on the upcoming TAKS tests: For students in regular classes, the passing percentages must be at 90% for grade 11 science, grade 11 math and grades 10 and 11 social studies. They must be at 80% for grades 9 and 10 math, and grade 10 science. For students in Pre-AP and AP classes, the commended percentages must be at 40% for grade 10 social studies; 25% for grade 11 social studies; and 20% for grade 9, 10, & 11 math, and grade 10 & 11 science. According to the Texas Education Agency, the use of cell phones during testing is not permitted. All cell phones are to be turned off and placed in backpacks or purses at the front of testing rooms. Cell phones are not to be kept on the person under any circumstance. In School Suspension (ISS) will be assigned if the above procedures are not followed. There will be a mandatory meeting next Thursday for anyone interested in becoming a high school student athletic trainer. The meeting will be held in the Belton High School athletic training room beginning at 5:30 p.m. Information about the Sports Medicine Program will be discussed and a formal application will be given out at this time. Please encourage your parents to attend as well. Registration for the late spring / early summer SAT Academy is now taking place. Forms are available in the counseling center, in Mrs. Chaney’s office and on the Belton High School home page. The deadline for registration is next Friday. The academy will begin on Thursday, May 6. BISD is in need of canvas book bags for use as comfort care bags at the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC). The CAC fill the bags with a blanket, stuffed animal, book, snack, etc. and then gives the bag to an abused or traumatized child. There is a box in the Belton High School mail room if you would like to donate a bag. For those student athletes entering the 9th through the 12th grades, athletics physicals will be administered at the Belton Scott & White Clinic next Wednesday for boys and on May 6 for girls. Physicals will begin at 4:00 p.m. on each day. Athletes will need to pick up a physical form from their coach or from one of the athletic trainers. The form needs to be filled out prior to seeing the physician. Any student not currently in football who would like to play in the 2010 season must participate in spring football beginning May 3. Contact Coach Southern or Coach Morgan (in the field house) to get a practice schedule and equipment information. Free physicals will be held next Wednesday after school. The contest One-Act Play, THE COVER OF LIFE, will be presented to the public tonight and tomorrow night at 7:30 .p.m., and also on Sunday at 2:30 p.m., in the Belton High School PAC. Tickets are $5.00. Come and see this amazing performance by the cast, alternates and crew! Students: Following is a reminder about the student dress code. Ladies - Straps on sleeveless shirts must be as wide as your ID. Shorts and skirts must be no shorter than 4 inches above the knee. The athletic type shorts that are popular at this time are too short. Be sure to measure and make sure your shorts and skirts are only 4 inches above the knee. Jeans with holes may not have holes above the knee for both guys and girls. Boys are to come to school each day clean shaven. The 2010 Prom Court will consist of the following students: Prom King candidates are Tony Bishop, Nick Krejchi, Michael Lucas-Jones and Dylan Moore Prom Queen candidates are Bethany Anson, Brittney Bryant, Myesha Clark and Lindsey Mitchell The Prom King and Queen will be named at the 2010 Prom on May 1. Congratulations to these students for being elected to the Prom Court. Prom tickets are now on sale during C and D lunches and in room D-27 through next Friday at noon. A valid Belton High School ID must be shown and all fines must be paid in order to purchase a ticket. Seniors: If you would like to attend the senior luncheon and have not yet purchased a ticket, you must do so by next Friday. Tickets are $8.00 and may be purchased from Ms. Hunter in the front office.
