 Have you visited the Department of Education Parent FCAT Site? o Check out this link:http://www.firn.edu/doe/sas/fcat.htm o The Department of Education web site contains information on:  Released Tests (Reading and Math for grades 4, 8, 10)  Links to parent resources  Frequently asked questions about the FCAT  State, district, and school scores  Official FCAT Handbook  Does your child’s school have an After School or Saturday School program? o Find out if your child’s school has any programs that could help your child master the skills covered on the FCAT. After School and Saturday School programs offer intense academics on the skills covered on the FCAT.  FCAT Explorer o All students in grades 3-10 in Leon County have a username and password for the FCAT Explorer Program. The program is web-based and students can utilize the program for skill practice on FCAT content. The site is: www.fcatexplorer.com  Do you know what Achievement Levels are? o Achievement levels describe the success a student has achieved on the Florida Sunshine State Standards tested on the FCAT. Achievement levels range from 1 to 5 with a Level 1 being the lowest and Level 5 being the highest.

 What does your child need to score to be eligible for promotion? o To be eligible for promotion students should score at a Level 2 or higher on the FCAT SSS Reading and Math and at the 25% or higher on the FCAT NRT Reading and Math. In addition students must pass each core benchmark at a mastery level of at least 70% (for high school students must pass each class with at least a D).  What content is assessed on the FCAT SSS Math test? o The math assessment covers processes and skills relating to the following five areas:  Number Sense, Concepts, and Operations  Measurement  Geometry and Spatial Sense  Algebraic Thinking  Data Analysis and Probability  What content is assessed on the FCAT SSS Reading test? o The reading assessment covers the processes and skills relating to the following four areas:  Words and Phrases in  Comparisons and Context Cause/Effect  Main Idea, Plot, and  Reference and Research Purpose
