Telemarketers:
Do you get phone calls from telemarketers wanting to sell you advertising? When and if this
happens and you are not sure if you should purchase the ad space – call the Hampton Area
Chamber office. The Chamber will get to the bottom of it. The most common calls are for map
advertising and school promo advertising. When you get a call, get information such as:
company name, phone number and what they are selling. If you have not heard anything from
the Chamber, call the Chamber to let us know there is a telemarketer company calling. Once they
pick an area to start calling, generally they will call the whole Hampton area.
The Hampton Area Chamber is working with the Hampton Dumont School to keep local dollars
local. When businesses support the school, the school supports the businesses.

Try Us First:

Each year brings more national chains displacing locally owned businesses throughout the
country. We see clones replace unique establishments. People across the country are losing
sense of community in their town. It seems obvious that we do business where we perceive we
receive the best value for our time and money. Perceptions, however, are not always accurate
when we are lacking some of the essential information for fully informed decisions. We see and
hear the universal ads of corporate chains everyday, but are collectively under-informed about the
many important values independent businesses provide us individually and as a community.
Let’s stay focused on the importance of Trying the Hampton Area First. It is the Hampton area
businesses and organizations that support the local community activities and fund raisers with the
best interest of our kids and families in mind. Who supports the local fair? Who supports the
school system? Who knows your name when you walk through the door at a local business? The
Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Try Us First participants encourage you to support
the businesses and organizations that support the Hampton area. Every time we spend that dollar
in the Hampton area, we are not only impacting the present economy, we are also setting the
standards for the future of the Hampton area.

                                 People Are Like Potatoes:

Those content to watch while others do the work are called “Speck Taters.”
Those gifted at finding fault with others are called “Comment Taters.”
Those pretending to be something they are not are called “Emma Taters.”
Those who never get around to actually doing what they have promised are
                             called “Hezza Taters.”
Those who bring real sunshine into lives of others are called “Sweet Taters.”

Just for the fun of it:
 Always keep your words soft and sweet, just incase you have to eat them.
 If you can’t be kind, at least have the decency to be vague.
 If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably
       worth it.
 Never buy a car you can’t push.
 Since it’s the early worm that gets eaten by the bird, sleep late.
 The second mouse gets the cheese.
 When everything is coming your way, you’re in the wrong lane.
 You may be the only one person in the world, but you may also be the
       world to one person.
 We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp. Some are pretty and
some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but
hey, all have to live in the same box.

The purpose of the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce is to support economic growth,
by improving the quality of life and business climate in the Franklin County area.
