VIPRE Enterprise 3.1 to Version 4.0

The upgrade from 3.1 to 4.0 is a major alteration, including the transition from an Access database to a
SQL database, and the implementation of a new Site Services model. This procedure is the same for both
VIPRE Enterprise 4.0 and VIPRE Enterprise Premium 4.0.
     1. Ensure that your server meets the minimum requirements of VIPRE Enterprise 4.0 as defined
        here.

Note: Windows 2000 is no longer supported for the VIPRE Enterprise service and administration
console. For assistance with migrating your 3.1 server installation from a Windows 2000 box to
another server, please see http://support.sunbeltsoftware.com/Default.aspx?answerid=1757 for
          complete steps.
     2. From the server running VIPRE 3.1, download the 4.0 installer.
     3. Open the file you downloaded to begin the installation.
     4. Choose to run it and install the SQL components.

Note: If an instance of SQL is already installed on the local machine, you will not see this step.
     5. Click Next on the initial splash screen.
     6. Agree to the upgrade notice and the license agreement.
     7. Choose an installation location and click Next.
     8. At the next screen, choose VIPRE Site Service Complete – this is required in order to properly
migrate your data and setup your VIPRE site services.
     9. If SQL is not already installed, the SQL screen will launch. Choose Install SQL Server 2005
Express SP3 on this machine. If this screen does not launch, go to step 11.

Note: You can choose to not install SQL express and instead use your own SQL server, even it if
is located on another server. If you wish to do this, choose to use your existing SQL server.
     10. Click Next. The installation for SQL Express will begin and may take up to 10 minutes to
         complete.
     11. Click Finish. Your VIPRE Enterprise 4.0 console will open up and present you with the VIPRE
         Database Configuration wizard.
     12. At the Wizard, choose Next.
     13. At the Database Configuration screen, keep the Use same information for configuration,
reporting and quarantine data. (Recommended for most installations) checkbox checked.
     14. Do not check the “I created the databases manually” checkbox.
     15. Under Site Name: choose an appropriate site name for your location. A site name should describe
where you are, as opposed to what you are. For example, a good site name would be “Third

floor” or “Main office,” a bad site name would be “VIPRE.”

     16. Choose Next.
     17. The Limited SQL User screen will appear. Here, you should choose the name of a user account
that will be created in SQL. Our default recommendation is VIPREUser. We suggest you keep
this and enter a password of your choice. When you are finished, click Next.
     18. The Database Configuration wizard will begin. It will update you on the process of your database
creation. When it is complete, it will appear as you see below.

     19. Click Next.
     20. The migration menu will now appear. At this screen, you should wait until the Next button is
         enabled, then click it.

     21. On the next screen, the VIPRE Site Service Configuration wizard will ask if it can be launched.
You will need to click Launch VSS it to configure your VIPRE Site Service. This is important,
because it verifies your registration and update information as well as allowing you to configure
some of the new features in VIPRE 4.0, like the administrative alert email address. It will appear
         as you see below.

The VIPRE Site Service Wizard will take you step by step through the creation of your site. If
you have a question at any point in the product, you can press F1 and receive detailed
          instructions.

Note: If you cancel the wizard before completion, your changes will not be saved.
     22. An important screen during this process is the one below:

Here, you can see the progress of your definitions. By default, the definitions will show up as “0”
and the Status of the Automatically download threat definitions updates field will be Work In
Progress. This means that the VIPRE site service is in the process of downloading threat
definitions, and will vary depending on available bandwidth. It is strongly suggested that you do
not click Next until the definitions show a number above 5000 and the status is Idle (Healthy),
          like you see below.

If you do not wait, you may see an error message. If this occurs, just wait a moment and retry the
process once again. Once the Threat Definitions download is complete, the wizard will be able to
migrate your data. Click Finish on the final page in order to save your configuration updates.
     23. The VIPRE quarantine migration screen will now appear. At this screen, click Next.
     24. The quarantine data will now migrate from your old format to the new format. When it is
complete, you will be able to click Next.
At this point, the installation is now complete.
