CDHfH’s Mission
Capital District Habitat for Humanity (CDHfH) is a not-for-profit, ecumenical housing partnership dedicat-
ed to building simple, decent and affordable houses with low-income families in need. Habitat uses volun-
teer labor and donations of money and materials to provide affordable homeownership to those people who
would not otherwise have that opportunity. Established in 1988, CDHfH is the Albany, New York affiliate
of Habitat for Humanity International.

Habitat Homeowner Selection
Families in need of decent shelter submit an application to Habitat for Humanity. The affiliate’s Family
Selection Committee qualifies new homeowners based on their level of need, the quality of their current liv-
ing conditions, and their ability to repay an affordable zero-interest mortgage. Those selected earn only 40-
60% of the median income for the area. Our families invest 350 hours of labor, or “sweat equity”, into com-
pletion of their homes. Habitat provides a hand up, not a handout! CDHfH practices a nondiscriminatory
policy in its family selection process.
