Cheers from the President…..
Happy New Year everyone, Christmas is over and we are now into the second part of the season.

The Patrols have been fantastic. No late sign on’s. We have seen some very messy surf over the past
couple of weeks and I am very proud of the patrols as they have made numerous rescues. Some of
the rescues have been outside our patrolling area and I know that our neighboring clubs are grateful
for our assistance. Matt Fordham has started another group of up and coming Life Savers and I’m
sure that we all we wish them well in their examinations.

The Boat crews are showing their force with some good placings and even a first at the Queenscliff
This is matched by our youngest members the “Nippers”. What a fantastic bunch of competitors they
are. On the beach every Sunday morning and when they go off to Carnivals they show up the larger
clubs time and time again.
It would be great to see even more of our members competing at the coming carnivals.
Please let me or Scott Morrison the clubs Competition Manager know if you are interested in any
events. Well done everyone.

The beach disappeared in the first week of January, however it is quickly coming back. There has
been close to 1 metre dumped back in the last week and it looks like most of it should be back in
another week or so. The bad swell and a couple of visiting Hammer Head sharks have made the
Sunday Surf race a bit impossible in the last couple of weeks but I’m sure we will kick off again next
weekend. The race starts at 11:00 is for anyone who is interested. There are prizes to be won at the
end of each month. The more you compete, the more chance you have at winning.

Friday 4th January 2008 Low Tide Sunday 13th January 2008 Low Tide

On Friday 1st February we have our annual visit to the club from our friend from Brewarrina. Each year
we are getting more and more people helping out. If you are able to spare a couple of hours over
the week end please come down and meet the terrific kids. Each year we prepare over 400 meals
for these kids and there helpers. It is such a rewarding time seeing these kids smile and relax during
their stay at South Narrabeen.
Please email the club at if you can help out.

Competition Corner…..

We had 2 boat crews that migrated south to the Queenscliff Carnival on Sunday January 13 to
compete with both taking home outstanding results. The Under 23 ' Snappers'crew consisting of
Michael Chiarelle, Steve Nicotra, Rohan Fisher and Michael Haven took home 1st place in their
division and the Under 19 ' consisting of Scott Catlin, Cameron Bealey, Joe Emmerton and
Sean Smith took home 5th place in their division. Both crews are swept by Scott ' Morrison so
well done to Scott for keeping the boys on the straight and narrow.

Also on Sunday January 20 there was a ‘young guns’ Carnival that was held at Collaroy. Again both
of the boat crews headed down to battle the mean surf down the southern end of our stretch of
beach. Unfortunately the ‘Nuffies’ were knocked out early but the “Snappers’ again proved their
skills and strength by placing 2nd in the final against some tough interstate competition.

Well done to both crews on their performance!

This weekend we have the annual Manly/Freshwater Carnival weekend so all members are
encouraged to come down and support the boys. The boats are on Saturday January 26 at Manly
and Sunday January 27 at Freshwater.

‘Snappers’ in action at Collaroy ‘Nuffies’ braving the testing conditions

Social Events…..

These are great ways to meet people and also a good way to make some money for the club whilst
we' having a good time. We are always looking for people to help organise a function or give us
ideas so if you can help please let us know.

Sunday Morning BBQ
On Sunday mornings after Nippers, the Nipper parents organise a BBQ. Cooking and serving is done
on a roster basis.

Second Fridays
On the second Friday night of the month, Club members get together for drinks at the clubhouse
from 6.30pm. This gives members a chance to meet other members, Nipper parents and the
Committee on a Friday night. The next second Friday drinks will be on October 12, 2007.
Old Lifesavers Wooden Kegs Easter Sunday 2008…

Burleigh Heads SLSC has a tradition of enjoying a draft beer of the Wooden Kegs on Easter Sunday,
hosted by their Old Lifesavers association...

Many of the older members of Burleigh have cloudy but fond memories of enjoying a drink with their
mates from South. Narrabeen and would like to extend an invitation to any South Narrabeen
member who is on the Gold Coast over Easter 2008, to join us on Sunday at 1:00pm for a cleansing
ale or two, straight off the wood.

In 2008 we celebrate our Easter Wooden Kegs with some of our new age Matriarchs. Gwen Pratt
(Col's wife. Col who passed away some time ago - be nice), Val Bugeja (Chucker's wife), Anita Huth
(Allan Imrie's daughter and Terry's sister) & Maureen Fleming (Yabby and Pilchards sister).

Just turn up and make yourself known to Bruce Mayne. The other regulars you may know are Alice
Taylor, Gary Balkin, Trevor Hardie, Bill Kettle, Ron Palmer, Dave Roberts, Chucker, Titch Forte, Greg
Booth, Ian Malcolm, Lotha Rolls, Terry Costello and Frank Tate. We could even be graced with Russel
Loane' presence if he knew any of the Southey boys were coming.

2008 Club Championships…

The Club Championships will be held on Sunday February 16, 2008 to start at 10.30am. Come along
and compete in the Sprint, Flags, Swim and many other events. There will also be a Club photo taken
on the day so please come down in your smartest looking Club shirt.

The bar will also be open after the events so please head upstairs and have a drink with your fellow
Club members.

Your Club needs more patrolling members to share the load!! We would not exist if we did not patrol
the beach. This is our community obligation and our return for patrolling South Narrabeen is to have a
terrific clubhouse, nippers, compete at surf carnivals, social events and doing our bit for the local

Reminder: If are rostered for patrol you are required to find a substitute, ring other members. If you fail
to turn up you are letting down your Club and yourself.

Ask your friends, neighbours and relatives to join. Great training scheme, new skills
