Workshop: Strategic Asset Management – Phase two
Organisers: Helena Alegre (LNEC, Portugal) & Steve Allbee (USEPA, USA) Tuesday 9 Sep, 14:15-15:45 and 16:30-18:00 Room: U2 Hall P (t.b.c.) Managing the urban water infrastructures in a strategic and sustainable way is a major challenge and priority for modern societies. Although these infrastructures have been managed since they started to be constructed and used, the adoption of well devised approaches to asset management is something that faced a tremendous evolution in recent years. The IWA Leading Edge Conferences on Strategic Asset Management (LESAM), carried out on a biannual basis, between world congresses, allow for a comprehensive overview of the current technical, scientific and practical knowledge in the world. The aim of this workshop is to share relevant and leading edge hands-on experiences with the participants, establishing the bridge between LESAM 2007 and LESAM 2009. After an initial stage of raisin awareness for the theme and establishing the basis for SAM, this workshop aims at demonstrating that we achieved a second phase, more mature, where many success stories can already be found. The program of the workshop has three parts: a keynote address, a set of presentations by experienced and leading edge entities from different regions of the world, and a discussion panel. The keynote speaker will set up the scene and put strategic asset management into perspective. The topics of practitioners’ presentations will range from programmatic to informational and to operational aspects. The final panel will allow speakers and workshop participants to discuss some key issues and wrap up. The workshop counts on the active contribution of some of the best experts in the world, representing organisations from North America (US), Europe (Germany, Portugal and UK) and Asia (Singapore).
