“Our cluster has found the Lexia programs to be very effective in the systematic skill
development of students with a variety of literacy difficulties. Students who have had
long term difficulties are now making significant progress.”

There are three age appropriate Lexia Reading Programs for literacy
development. They cover the age ranges: 4-6 years (Early Reading),
5-8 years (Foundation Reading), and 9-Adult (Strategies)

This table identifies the skill set covered by each program.

Shane is a Year 10 student, diagnosed with severe SLD, plus Irens Syndrome. When I started Shane on
SOS reading programme he had a reading age of 6.5 years. Shane's first comment when he completed a
few exercises at level one was, "this is wicked.....it's just what I need." Three months down the track,
Shane's reading age was recorded at 9 years. Kelly McGowan, Shirley RTLB

      LEXIA READING SOFTWARE GETS RESULTS!

Report to School Management on Lexia Reading Program Results 2006
Resource Teacher, Learning and Behaviour, Stoke Cluster, Broadgreen
Intermediate School, Nelson

Increases based on Probe Running records pre and post.
Students used Lexia SOS reading program 3 x week (20 mins sessions) with parent
help support during 2 terms in 2006. This program was run in addition to normal
classroom reading.

In two school terms the students made reading age gains of between a minimum of
1 year 8 months to a maximum of 4 years.

Anecdotal Evidence
The most satisfying aspect has been the student’s attitude to reading and their
belief in their own ability. It has managed to bring up students reading age
who have been stuck at the same level for up to 5 years. The boys in
particular seem to enjoy seeing their obvious visual progress on the graphs.

The social interaction and mentoring factor between parents and students was
another big plus for nearly all of these students and had a positive effect on
student’s behaviour.

Some teachers have used the program successfully within the classroom, but the
majority have used the program in the library or with me.
