November 09, 2006 "THE LAWYER'S HOLIDAY HUMOR CD" Posted by Robert Ambrogi: “Over at LawTunes, lawyer Lawrence Savell has just released his third CD of humorous holiday music with a legal theme. The latest CD, "Merry Lexmas From the Lawtunes," join Savell's two earlier compilations, "Legal Holidaze" and "The Lawyer's Holiday Humor Album." From the announcement: The 15 songs on the new holiday CD continue to take on a broad range of subjects regarding lawyers, the law, legal education, and the legal system. They cover the spectrum of life (and strife) as an attorney, "including but not limited to" ridiculous hours and the other sacrifices lawyers (and their families) make, headhunters and lateral movement, client relations, the adversarial system, the art of negotiating, time records and bills, meeting deadlines, document reviews, legal reasoning and argument, cross-examination, business travel, and year-end bonuses. Savell, counsel to Chadbourne & Parke in New York City, writes and records the songs himself. He was our guest last year on the Dec. 15, 2005, episode of the legal-affairs podcast Coast to Coast. "TUESDAY'S ELECTION RESULTS AND LITIGATION REFORM" Posted by JD Hull: “What About Clients? supports most litigation, tort or judicial reforms which would curtail or eliminate "junk" science, junk cases, junk judges, you get idea. WAC? has flirted with and briefly went steady--perhaps wrongly--with the UK "loser pays" rule. We've stopped short of advocating blue ribbon juries, an un-American idea, granted. But we do support organizations which envision that, some day, no American state court judge may be popularly elected but instead each is appointed based chiefly on merit by people who understand the difference between a great lawyer/jurist and a white-trash dingbat with a law degree who needs a job. Americans need much better judges, especially on the state benches.
