Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP supports a network solution that allows a central manager to create
and control duct catalogs, specifications, allowances, manufacturer defaults, pipe catalogs and custom
fittings and share the results with drafters throughout their company.
EastCoast recommends the following workflows for customers using a network implementation of
Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP with and without DuctMaker® in a networked environment. In each
case a central person should be assigned to control specifications (allowances, specifications,
manufacturing defaults).
Network installation instructions are detailed in Installing Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP (Network)
guide.

Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP with DuctMaker
If you are implementing both Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP and DuctMaker, EastCoast recommends
the following workflow scenario.
In this scenario the Shop Manager sets up and controls the allowances, specifications and
manufacturer defaults. The CAD Manager controls the content of the catalogs and manufacturer
default ranges for use by the drafters.

1. Install the SQL Server applications and the Part Manager Database and DuctMaker database on the
network server. The DuctMaker Database stores the duct allowances, specifications, and manufacturing
defaults. The Part Manager Database will store the duct and pipe catalogs and holds the pipe database used
   in creating drawings with Fabrication.

EastCoast CAD/CAM Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP

2. Install the DuctMaker application on the Shop manager’s computer. The Shop manager (or similar) will
access the DuctMaker database to create the allowances, specifications, and manufacturing defaults that
will used by the CAD Manager to create catalogs of duct used with Fabrication by the drafters.
3. Install the Part Manager application on the CAD Manager computer. The CAD Manager (or similar) will
access the Specs created by the Shop manager and create manufacturer ranges in the DuctMaker Database
to create duct catalogs, and the Part Manager DB to create pipe catalogs for use by the drafters.
4. Install Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP on each drafter’s computer. Drafters will access the catalog content
on the remote server and send their finished pickoffs to DuctMaker for fabrication.
The DuctMaker Database should NEVER be accessed by more than one user at a time. We
recommend that the Shop manager and the CAD manager determine a process that allows the initial
setup of specifications, allowances, and manufacturer default settings be completed by the Shop
manager. Once the Shop manager has completed the setup and exited DuctMaker the CAD manager
can add manufacturer default Ranges and Values and create catalogs. When completing updates, the
Shop manager must inform the CAD manager of changes to allow the CAD manager to synchronize
and review the information. To aid in limiting dual access to the configuration information the system
does not allow Part Manager to operate while DuctMaker is open. However if Part Manager is
running, DuctMaker made be used. This lets the CAD manager create new catalogs while DuctMaker
is running fabrication jobs.

Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP with no DuctMaker Implementation
If your company does not use DuctMaker for fabrication, you will use Part Manager to create
allowances, specifications, and manufacturer defaults to create the base for your duct catalogs.

1. Install the SQL Server applications and the Part Manager Database and DuctMaker database on the
network server. The DuctMaker Database stores the duct allowances, specifications, and manufacturing.
The Part Manager Database stores the duct and pipe catalogs. The SQL Database stores the duct and pipe
catalogs and holds the pipe database used in creating drawings with Fabrication.
2. Install the Part Manager application on the CAD Manager computer. The CAD Manager (or similar) will
access the DuctMaker database to create the allowances, specifications, manufacturer defaults and

manufacturer ranges. The CAD Manager will then access the specifications and manufacturer defaults in
the DuctMaker Database to create duct catalogs, and the Part Manager DB to create pipe catalogs for use
    by the drafters.
3. Install Fabrication for AutoCAD MEP on each drafter’s computer. Drafters will access the catalog content
   on the remote server.

File Support Locations
The following files are used in each of the detailed installations. In a network installation you may change the
file names and locations. We strongly suggest using the default names and locations however some network
configurations will require changing the data locations. Files notes in RED should be included in your
regularly scheduled network backups. Users must also back up all DWG and DWT files.
