East West Bancorp, Inc. (East West) is a bank holding company. The principal business of the Company is to serve as a holding company for East West Bank (the Bank) and other banking or banking-related subsidiaries. The Company operates in three segments: Retail Banking, Commercial Banking and Other. The Retail Banking segment focuses primarily on retail operations through the Bank's branch network. The Bank also provides financing for residential loans including single-family and multifamily loans. The Commercial Banking segment, which includes commercial real estate, primarily generates commercial loans through the efforts of the commercial lending offices located in the Bank's northern and southern California production offices. The Commercial Banking segment also offers a variety of international finance and trade services and products. In June 2010, the Company acquired the banking operations of Washington First International Bank (WFIB).
