The National Weather Service reported straight winds with speeds in excess of 55 miles per
hour throughout West Plains and surrounding areas. Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative reported
wide spread power outages throughout the cooperative service area. Cooperative linemen began
restoring electric service at around 2 p.m. and worked into the night till the last service had been
restored shortly before midnight.
Approximately 900 cooperative members were effected. At least eight power poles were
damaged by trees located outside of the cooperative right-of-way giving way with the force of the wind
and falling across the power lines.
It was also reported that North Arkansas Electric Cooperative also experienced wind damage
and power outages from the same incident of high straight winds.
The sub-station at Couch had an outage early this morning. The sub-station is owned by the
Sho-Me Power Cooperative and serves the areas in and around Couch. Sho-Me Power Cooperative
personnel along with Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative personnel were dispatched immediately and
power was restored by about 8:20 a.m. The cause of the outage may have been an aftermath from the
wind storm of yesterday.
