GUIDELINE FOR AN APPLICATION OF PPAP PROCEDURE FOR
 AUTOMOTIVE ELECTRONIC COMPONENTS
 (S. 30, December 2009)

This guideline, primarily, describes documentation and
process required to run Production Part Approval Process
(PPAP) for electronic components. PPAP is a bidirec-
tional approach for suppliers and Tier-1 to meet the
automotive requirements on the way to zero defect. The
guideline aims at improving the communication through a
common understanding and definition of which docu-
ments are required for the PPAP submission.

PPAP is part of general automotive requirements neces-
sary to release a component used in automotive applica-
tion for production. The PPAP submission includes a
number of important production information and docu-
mentations which are essential for the release of a quali-
                                          fied and reliable component.
The focus areas for PPAP are: Agreement on the auto-
motive requirements, agreement on the automotive part
specification, agreement on automotive qualification, Zero
                                          Defect Approach.

The goal of this guideline is to make sure that all basic documents and data are included and
well understood on the one hand and, on the other hand, to unify all major supporting docu-
ments that are necessary for running a PPAP specific to electronic components (single elec-
tronic devices, e.g. IC, Diode, and Resistor). The intention is to reduce the preparation time
as well as the negotiation items of the involved parties by “standardizing” the format and a
reduction to the relevant data - but still focus on the acceptance by the customer.

Therefore, this guideline shall help to create PPAP documents which meet the requirements
of both AIAG PPAP 4th Edition and VDA 2 (PPA) standards. An overview of both AIAG
PPAP 4th Edition and VDA 2 (PPA) standards is presented and the requirements are com-
pared.

The price for the guideline is € 20,- for ZVEI-members and € 40,- for non-members (excl.
taxes and shipping fees).
